@ForeverARTpower They just work differently, and have a few unique features. You should be able to do anything you can do in Maya in Max, and anything you can do in Max in Maya, they just have a different workflow.
@sttate Hi I am desperate Autodesk Maya 2012 and following a tutorial I realized that I have the option to make deco MODELING how to create vertices in a polygonal shape and mold HELP
@TNCultKing Hi I am desperate Autodesk Maya 2012 and following a tutorial I realized that I have the option to make deco MODELING how to create vertices in a polygonal shape and mold HELP
@st1ngr4g3 Zspheres isn't even a program. Z-Brush and Maya are completely different pieces of software. Maya is used for polygonal modeling, Z-Brush is used for digital sculpting.
@st1ngr4g3 yo you ask which program is better Maya or Zbrush? Well if your creating characters or creatures Zbrush is much faster cause your painting on the object. But Maya is a true 3-D program you can do everything with Maya but you cant with Zbrush. For instance you cant animate or you use fluids or import videos for animation. But Zbrush is getting there in a few years Zbrush will probably be on Maya level.
Although, I do have to say... A lot of Maya's "new" modeling tools aren't really new to the industry. But, it's not all negative. I do really like the project curves onto a mesh. That's really nice.
@nhavas Nah, your just to lazy to split the poly manually ;P. Plus there is a split option. You just need to know it's shortcut. I typically stay away from maya mostly because of it's horrid modeling workflow.
@Pawspov Lol I'm sixteen and I use Blender... I only look into Maya every once and a while, because I know It's one of the industry standards as of now. I will look at digital tutors, though I thin kyou have to pay.
@CadenBurleson good luck using blender i started maya when i was 14 now when it comes to digital tutors yes you have to pay the one way is to pirate it and get only the the smaller part or spare some money and buy a month subscription which is enough to learn alooooot of maya
@CadenBurleson I started using Maya at your age...it was version 6 I believe. Maya has changed a lot since then and I don't realize why people still use a sorta 'outsider' applications. Don't get me wrong Blender is a great learning tool for 3D navigation, extrusions and stuff...
And as Pawspov said 'good luck' with your Blender and may your talent compensate for the rest =)
@ AlanIsAkira - for the demo it's a custom shelf button but I am adding a new n-sided to quad tool as part of the next release of BonusTools.

@TNCultKing That may sound true. Both are great tools and are capable of doing amazing things for either industry.

I keep trying to break free from Maya with Blender, but then I keep going back.
Why? Blender doesn't have a suitable split polygon tool or extrude options. AND NO ONE IN THE BLENDER COMMUNITY IS WILLING TO CODE IT.

@nhavas Have you tried "Insert extrude"? That does exactly like on the shoulderpads in this vid. Also try B-mesh.

@CadenBurleson Depends on the resolution of the model, mostly its just one texture map or group of shading networks.
Pawspov 4 months ago
@Pawspov Shading networks?
CadenBurleson 4 months ago
@CadenBurleson Get back to studying student! Shading networks is a really big part of Maya.
I recommend Digital tutors there you can pretty much learn anything considering Maya
