  • I miss Christopher Hitchens, Johnnie Cash, Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Elvis, and etc, etc, etc.

  • Hitchins, Maher and Goldberg, three of my favoutite people in the same place. What a gem. Vietnam however was more of a waste than U.S. losses, a close friend of mine, an Australian, died there too. U.S allies who were drawn into that mess were also killed for a lie.

  • i dont' think facism is such a bad thing. One law for all people? How is that bad? Now we have, different laws for different people. If you are a gay black female nazi, then you have your own set of laws. How is that good? Opposite of facism is concidered Evil.

  • So at first Maher said Dennis Prager, I was already excited. Then he said that Hitchens is coming too and I was screaming from joy. Then Gene Simmons arrived - is this a dream ?

  • We (the USA) joined in on WW2 because our customers we going extinct. Every country was buying weapons and food from the US, but not Germany! We started the war with Japan by choking their country with a naval blockade, only to have them sink a massive amount of our fleet in a devastating counterattack. We planned our war with Japan, we only went to war with Germany because they wouldn't buy our goods! :O

  • fools, all of them

    /watch?v=-YQQHY2YrEY

  • why dosn't anyone go onto these talk shows and just say, "why the fuck are we still killing each other?" It's the 21stfuckingcentury and we already know we're one and share one planet but we'll continue fucking murdering each other. Thank you my fellow species for providing this world I was recently born into.

  • @wojovox We murder eachother because we are humans. It is human nature to kill or be killed. People are to different too siimply 'get along'. What century it is makes no difference.

  • @TheSolidJake

I hate that excuse, "It's just human nature". Well of course it is, that dosn't mean we can't do something about it now. It's human nature to walk, but now we fly on 747s and A380s with 300+ others at a time. And time does change things. We have more knowledge now than we ever had, and it's growing exponentially. we'll need to stand together at one point or else we'll never find what we really are.

  • @TheSolidJake What century it is does make a difference. Because in this century we have science and we can reflect on the mistakes made by earlier mankind.

  • I just dont understand Hitchens sometimes. He criticizes the Vietnam War but was an ardent supporter of the War on Iraq, which is essentially similar. can someone smarter than me plz. explain Hitchens' contradictions here?

  • @MsDDiddy I don't know the full extent of it, but I happened to come across this just after reading your comment: /watch?v=GJDXME47K7s it's hitchens on the daily show with Jon Stewart & the main gist of his view on Iraq (& countries with the same problems) is talked about. I hope it was in some sense informative :) Personally I don't know much about either except for the oppression in iraq which was opposed with the war & the vietnam war which was the escalation of something else

  • Whoopi (and Hitchen of course) was smarter than most of these guys.

  • How does it make right to bomb other counties for resources on the pretense promoting US false slogan “democracy” in the dictionary of Mr. Maher? Mr. Maher also, blocked any realities evidence that 911 is inside job. I guess ones career and big pay check are vital than a conscious mind.

  • Maher is disappointed war promoter, no one has right to mingle with other's business, no country came around to bomb US when millions of black lynched in 18th century. Or murdered Gadfly and bombed Libya to Stone Age for the humanitarian mission/Oil in 21st century.

  • My god, does Maher know ANYTHING about the Vietnam war? ? ?

The US HAD TO GO TO WAR AGAINST BULLIES? ??

The US gov. fabricated a reason to go in there to stop communists getting power in a fair election. Even before the invasion the CIA killed teachers, intellectuals and other influential people on the wrong side of the political spectrum in Vietnam and placed the "Ace" as a sign.

Really, WOW at Mahers extreme right wing ,fucknumb ignorance here.

  • @louiscfc93 then you would have had a shit life

  • I can't help but notice that Christopher is the only man on the panel that stood while Whoopi was being introduced and as she entered..... A true gentle man. And to think some people called him a male chauvinist.

  • @subgay Where were all the women standing for men? Not equal enough for you?

  • @mayne242 Holy fucking shit. How the fuck did you manage to post a comment on Youtube? Did you get your friends to help? Obviously you're severely retarded, Whoopi was the ONLY female on the PANEL of guests and she was introduced last. Also, my post has nothing to do with equality, it was a post remarking on comments made by Hitchens detractors. Fuck off and play with your blocks, its time for the big people to talk now.

  • @subgay What the fuck! You found the dumbest shit on youtube. You deserve a prize for making me laugh my ass off with your response! It fuckin amazes me that people like this are actually fuckin out there! "Fuck off and play with your blocks" hahahahah!!!

  • @subgay You think standing up when a woman enters the room is the mark of a gentleman and a scholar. You're living in a fantasy land.

  • @mayne242 Clearly you know nothing about Christopher, his volume works clearly shows that he is indeed a scholar, his actions have no bearing on this at all. How you have somehow made a connection with anything I said and him being a scholar I will never know. When I call him "a true gentle man" I am NOT calling him a gentleman. Back you go to play with the blocks, idiot.

  • @subgay So when you call someone a gentleman you're not calling them a gentleman. Thats full retard for you.

  • @mayne242 Ok, you didn't head back to your blocks as I suggested so I will make the difference ABSOLUTELY FUCKING CLEAR. There is a space between gentle and man as I wrote it. You should read it as "A true (In accordance with fact or reality) gentle ((of a person) Mild in temperament or behavior; kind or tender.) man (An adult human male.) NOT "A true gentleman (A chivalrous, courteous, or honorable man.)"

  • @subgay You're such a fucking idiot. You talk about chauvinism etc. in the same post as you say "gentle man" then go on about how you didn't mean "gentleman". Dipshit.

  • @subgay I understand your point, that this shows Christopher as not a chauvinist. But the idealization of a "true gentleman" needs to die off. Women can't have their cake and eat it, too. Chivalry cannot coincide with equality. Mutual respect and consideration? Sure. Let's just ditch this lopsided standard of being gallant towards women, since can be sexist in a very unconscious way.

  • @ErikWithBrain You have fallen into the same trap as mayne. You have, however, managed to not appear retarded in doing so. I disagree with "Chivalry cannot coincide with equality.", two people being equal does not mean that one or both cannot attempt to be chivalrous in their actions, it just means they will be treated equally in every aspect of life. As for being gallant toward women, that was not Hitch at all. He was a great defender of those he loved and respected, their sex was unimportant.

  • I would also like to point out, as I did in a reply above, I never called Hitch "a gentleman" I called him "a gentle man".

  • @subgay What I take issue with in your original comment is how you applaud Christopher standing for Whoopi as being characteristic of a “gentle” man. Would you have said that if he had stood up for every man who entered the stage, too? If he didn’t stand up, would we have evidence FOR chauvinism and against him being gentle? You can see how your comment could be misinterpreted. Also, you shouldn't be surprised that "gentle man" was construed as "gentleman", this IS YouTube after all ;)

  • This looks like an issue of semantic quibbling. I used chivalry in the sense of traditional social code of courteous behavior toward woman, with the assumption that they necessarily need it. With said assumption, I call that sexism when I see it. I just get annoyed when that sexism is preferred by SOME women only when it benefits them. So you seem to be using chivalry in a more general sense of courteous behavior , and I agree with that. I think "mutual consideration" covers that. lol

  • @subgay Its still the done thing in the UK among the more refined. I think a lot of those "old fashioned" manners have been lost in countries like the US and Australia etc

  • @subgay "And to think some people called him a male chauvinist." because he stood doenst that denote he thinks differently about women?.and let me add I LOVE the Hitch..just to qualify my typing :o)

  • Easy for Bill and Gene to say with all their limbs.

  • audio sucks.

  • I want to hear the rest of Maher's point on wasted lives... 20 million Soviet soldiers didn't die at the eastern front as a show of power, they died because of lack of proper leadership and planning from the officers. They didn't give a shit about their soldiers, the US is supposed to be different that's what is supposed to separate us from the communists.

  • Whoa. Maher was conservative???

  • Comment removed

  • Bill Maher is a hypocrite, this is another reason why I don't respect him.

  • Great results from that war, too. What a complete hippocrite. I wish someone would repost this and show all the vets of the Ira/afghanistan wars how sincere one of this country's supposedly biggest anti-war voices (not so much anymore) truly is. What a joke how CNN always parades him out, attempting to prevent average citizens from studying economics by semi-humorously condescending to fiscal conservatives, relying on his falsely established bona fides as an anti-war liberal to bait & hook them.

  • WOW. I am disgusted with Maher's hypocrisy. This is proof that all he does is tow the Democratic party line. Vietnam was a necessary war because we demonstrated to the bullies of the world that we were willing to spend lives, huh? Right- the lives of over 1 million men, women and children in the third world and the lives of almost 60,000 drafted, lower class high school students here in America. And to falsify the reports in the gulf of Tonkin attack as well, I guess, aye Maher? What a scumbag.

  • Bill Rocks!

  • Maher is a jerk - a chicken hawk - put him on the front line - he'd shut up

  • Bill Maher needs to learn when to shut the fuck up because [especially in this case] he's not the smartest person in the room.

  • If there is EVER a hell on earth...it would be at THAT particular table with those 3. Satan must be proud.

  • Americans are gangsters. Thats what they are.

  • A. Vietnam had nothing to do with bringing down the Berlin wall. Communism didn't work, and a new generation of leaders (Gorbachev and Deng Xiao-Ping) realized it had to go. Now Castro has handed over to his brother and Cuba is starting down the same path. B. The U.S. didn't yet grasp back then that there were deep divisions within the Communist world, Vietnam fought wars against both China and Cambodia, and the Chinese fought against the Soviets. (continued...)

  • @gspaulsson @gspaulsson There was never a realistic Communist threat. The Soviets got their asses kicked in Afghanistan, never even thought about invading Western Europe, never even managed to get Tito under control in Yugoslavia, and fell out with China. In Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh was the hero of the war against the French and Japanese. while the U.S. was backing a military dictatorship and a Catholic clique that had no popular support. North Vietnam was not a Soviet puppet. (continued ...)

  • @gspaulsson The U.S. lost in Vietnam, and so what? Indochina lined up with Cambodia and Laos backed by China and Vietnam by the Soviets, while there was never any danger in Thailand. In Cambodia, the U.S. booted Sihanouk, who was popular, because he was friendly with the Chiniese (against Vietname), installed the Lon Nol regime, and opened the door to the Pol Pot nightmare. The Vietnamese finally got rid of Pol Pot, whom the U.S. unbelievably backed.

  • @gspaulsson The politics of that period were complex, the U.S. didn't know what it was doing, and I am surprised that someone as smart as Maher has such dumb and simplistic ideas about it. Vietnam was a disaster, pure and simple, and if anything can be learned from it, it's that the U.S. shouldn't meddle in affairs it doesn't understand. :Like Iraq and (soon) Iran.

  • Mayer, Hitchens, and Goldberg.

All miserable liberals that should not be in the media.

    Well.... Hitchens is gone.

    1 down, 2 to go.

  • LOL, Whoopi Goldberg. Seriously.

  • Whoopi is awesome. Hitch a close second.

  • America & americans have never gone to help any country...each time they have gone in, is after they have confirmed that they have a big financial windfall in going there. & then they design a cover that looks like "help & charity"...that's a very christian mo...& that's what makes america bigoted...the dichotomy between their claims & their actions. They have not changed one bit till date...

  • whoopie comes off as an ignoramus here.

  • and its so relevant now

  • I admire Bill for taking on so many in the same ring, but he lost the first round with the Vietnam War was necessary bit.

Kudos to Whoopi for articulating her point beside the Mighty Hitch.

  • Bill actually proved Hitchens' point.

The rhetoric was to stop chinese communist from taking over because it was so evil.

Yet, Nixon and Kissinger buddied up to Mao knowing he killed millions of people

  • noble to fight against communism, fascism, and....CAPITALISM...

    yes?

    "ooooooooh..."

if they came over here as immigrants and we went there as immigrants i'm sure we'd get on alright

    BECAUSE WE'RE NOT PSYCHOS

just a suggestion to add to all the other quite VALID opinions

    thank you

  • A necessary war.... woww, tell that to the naked Vietnamese kid on fire from napalm.

  • this video was cut short precisely when it was getting "good".

  • The only thing that makes me in favor of the Vietnam war was the fact the we (US) sold the north all the weapons they were using to kill the south. We had to correct that mistake by stepping in.

  • this show was great back in the day

  • I rarely disagree with Bill Maher, but in this instance I believe he's dead wrong. Kudos to Whoopi for attempting --- inarticulately, unfortunately --- to expose the weakness of his arguments in favor of war.

  • wow I've never disagreed with Bill Maher more

  • These people dont know what communism even is.

What the United states did democracy, the Soviet union did to socialism.

  • @sullenboy1o3o I agree for the most part, although Hitchens was a dedicated Trotskyist earlier in his life. his concept of communism (as is in the experience of many people) is specifically Leninist.

  • @MMBKG0 um Trotsky was a Leninist too

  • @sullenboy1o3o United States is not a democracy, it's a republic and I am sure that if I ask you, you'll tell me that REAL communism has never even been properly implemented.

  • @H1TMANactual A republic will inevitably lead to communism because it concentrates the wealth in the hands of a small number of individuals and corporations. The only sane form of government is a parliamentary democracy. If the people had more power in the United States the congress would have been out on their asses a long time ago and these insane illegal and immoral wars would have been stopped.

  • @LearningAsIGo80 Hitler was democratically elected (though HIndenberg got the popular vote). How did that work out? Democracy means majority rules. Well at one point the majority thought that blacks should have different water fountains. If 51% votes to kill off the other 49%, that's also democracy. There is nothing logical, kind or "sane" about democracy. A majority can be easily wrong. A republic that protects the rights of minority and every individual is the way to go.

  • @H1TMANactual You are talking about a direct democracy, I am talking about a parliamentary democracy there is a huge difference. Look at how well the "republic" is serving us now. We have the patriot act, FISA, NDAA, illegal wars, etc.

  • @H1TMANactual A republic protects corporations and the ultra rich. This is why oil companies and multinational corporations are ruining the United States.

  • @H1TMANactual

Hitler never had the majority of people supporting him. In fact, opposition to the Nazis was considerable at the time.

Source: Liberalism Resurgent by Steve Kangas

  • @JonathanTheAlchemist Yeah I know, I already said it - "Hindenberg got the popular vote"

  • looool hitchens looked and sounded so drunk when he greeted maher

  • Bill Maher defends the Vietnam War??!! FUCK HIM!!

  • Bill, you are a douche bag.

  • we dont fight communism, we fight dictatorships

  • MAHER IS A FUCKING ZIONIST TRASH.

  • Maher is a fucking twat

  • I don't usually disagree with Bill, but if the only intrinsic purpose in fighting a war/battle is to show your enemies you will...how is that distinct from terrorism?

  • @TomVodkaCollins It seems to me like he's changed his mind on that since this was recorded, because last year when I was at a show of his, he was saying how we should stop this empire.

  • @TomVodkaCollins Well, even if you have the most well-trained, expensive, largest army in the land--the US does--you have to prove that you have the will to use it. Which is why a state with a large military will never sit around and let it fall into disuse. Every decade the US gets involved in something militarily.

  • @fyadcorp What you've said doesn't do anything to distinguish the behavior from that of any other terrorists. All you've done is attempt to justify the behavior.

  • @TomVodkaCollins "poor me" --you

  • @TomVodkaCollins Because terrorism by definition is simply to incite fear for political motives?

  • As much as I love Bill, Hitch is always correct. Vietnam was the greatest failure of american foreign policy tbh. It created more misery than it stopped.

  • If i can say anything on my death bed i can say i lived on this earth at the same time as Christopher Hitchens

  • Well said. Well said.

  • Interesting to see this old video now. Since, they have switched positions. Hitchens became more pro-war, and Maher became quite anti-war.

  • @jjjmail Nobody should be either. You should speak the truth and if the truth of the day is pro war then so be it.

  • @jjjmail While I get what you're saying I wouldn't say Hitchens was pro-war. If I'm not mistaking he supported the Iraqi war because he feared even more people would suffer if the war didn't happen. I don't think he'd have supported any war but then agan you could be right and he can't tell us anymore.

  • None of the panel, including Maher, are intelligent enough to come out of a debate with Hitchens with their dignity intact.

  • whoo-pissed goldberg's last name should be changed to "Iceberg" because the vast majority of her ability to think and reason as compared to the mass of an iceberg is hidden. What force on earth, I wonder...is responcible for her being invited to these kinds of intellectual debates i'll probably never know... I'm just saying... wtf ( Thanks for the post )

  • The Vietnamese were under the impression they were fighting for their independence.

  • its retarded to say communism killed more people than nazis, that way how many people have been killed by democracies? i am sure its more than communism and nazism combined. How gullible can these people be.Why is it good to kill people in other countries and bad to kill people in your own countries, its killing people for being under a doctrine that they may or may not agree with.

  • Love the dead squirrel on Gene Simmons' head.

Whoopi is a dim-witted attention whore.

    Hitchens was a treasure.

Maher is a pale shadow of Bill Hicks.

    Prager? Generic right-wing stuffed shirt.

  • @funboy7979

    Someone is butthurt.

  • @KrazyK923 What are you, 12?

  • whoopi, you are so stupid, sorry mam, but get some history lessons...

  • damn i cant stand whoopie

  • Maher sounds really ignorant

  • Is it just me or does the sound quality suck ?

  • Prager's a smug prick.

  • The Hitch! Bringing it.

  • Maher's final words of this clip are interesting "you speak as if we live in a world that is a vaccum. We *have* to counteract the worst people..." and yet he was/is so vocal about the invasion of Iraq and the ousting of Saddam Hussein. Obfuscation of the WMD banter aside, we did remove a despot, a tyrant and murderer, something Bill himself just validated but now it'd seem to me that Bill is having it both ways. Just an observation.

  • I have no political agenda & I admit that I'm no scholar about these different ideologies, but of what I do know about communism has led me to think of it as, at its foundation, both sound and tenable. The problem seems to be crazy fuckin leadership and human greed, tyranny & corruptibility. The theory & ideology is solid. Its stewards & adherents are weak.

  • I absolutely love Whoopie. There's a "we hate communism" ethos across the USA but very few people know what it means. Tyranical genocides have nothing to do with communism so don't slander communism because of it's incidental ties in history.

  • So......

what are we gonna do... or what should we do....

if China decides they want Indonesia ??? just askin

  • @ncwdane Help China to bend Indonesia over or lose your iPods, iPads, macbooks etc.

  • What the hell is Simons doing on the same stage as Hitch. He is an arrogant twat.

  • America has become the bully of the world.

  • That is a surprise coming from Maher. It is sad that people think Vietnam was a wasted war. It was part of the cold war and the fact that millions of more people are free from communist regimes proves it. And having someone you know or are related to die does not give your opinion any more weight.

  • I usually like Bill Maher but I think maybe only the old version... this young version is stupid. Christopher is right.. and Woopie actually really impressed me.

  • Hitch was the truth RIP

  • Goldberg was then and is now a intellectual midget.

  • One of Hitch's enviable qualities was his ability to stay on topic and persist clearly with an argument in spite of all the other distractions surrounding him at the moment. Take THIS for example: 09:33. What the HELL is lurking on Gene Simmons's scalp?! Is it a sleeping colony of wolf spiders? Did he purchase a vintage wad of Brian Blessed's pubic hair and have it surgically grafted to his head? At the end of the week, can he clean it by pitching it in the washing machine with his socks?

  • These people don't understand what Communism is. Communism is anarchism....

  • Hitchens died today, a sad day for intelectuals.

  • intellectuals

  • @vance1968 yeah, that one :P stupid spelling mistake ;)

  • Do not call Hitch "Chris." Ever...

  • Wow! Gene Simmons is seriously way fucking smarter than I ever guessed.

  • What that Dennis Prager or whatever his name is defines as "communism" Whoppi and others like me define as "Stalinism" which is much like Nazism in that it was an evil despotic regime hellbent on mass murder, which is different from what I see as the basic ideology of a classless society where people are equal in life unbias of race, gender or sexual orientation

  • Bill Maher sounds like an idiot here. What is going on???

  • ametreloads you god damn fucking asshole piece of shit i hope you die right now for that fucking tape hiss its driving me insane mother fucker bitch

  • @mittROMNEY666 Hey dude..Go smoke one !

  • Just about every war fought is for resources and stragetic positioning. However Woopie and Hitchens etc better learn about the unworkablness of communism. Never mind the totalitarian communists(which all regimes that have ever existed have became in order to function). Mises's Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth is free online and is a short read. But dont forget millions of people starved to death under Communism ignoring those who were brutalised.

  • @NicosMind Terrible argument nicos. Communism in itself isn't better or worse. What in "communism" promotes murder, or ones interests over anothers interests or rights?

Imagine "communism" adopted in a country under imperial occupation or under hostilities from its neighbors That society will be totalitarian. As any system that they would have adopted. Now imagine "communism" adopted by a self sustained, unmolested, socialistic Nordic country. No issue.

  • @DimmedDiamond I used todays Nordic states as an example, because its the best example of a group of states that don't have foreign countries with foreign interests in that region (resource, financial, geopolitical). They would be the most free to pursue such practices in pure/free/unmolested environment that wouldn't devolve.

'Communism" is not realistic in the sense that the environment of the world is such that states would be molested, devolve, and be weakened economic and politically.

  • @DimmedDiamond Good arguments just maybe terribly phrased. Let me try again. Many people look at the abuses and totaliarian communist nations of the past and present and point to those as reasons against communism. Im saying not to but instead to look at the calculation argument instead, and how millions died due to bad mismanagement of the economy. To look at what was produced and what wasnt. The quanities and porportions and comparisons with other nations in the world(continued)

  • (cont) For instance according to official Soviet statistics 234 of 277 consumer goods were missing of the official "market basket". Petit women found it hard to buy clothes because factories were given targets in the meters. Similiary it was hard to find roof tacs cause factories were given targets in the ton and its easier to make large nails over small. When the Soviets were boasting about the concrete they were producing the US had 1.3 million personal PCs. USSR 20,000 --->>>>

  • --->>> had between 20-30 thou and i bet most of them were in government offices.

Economies are meant to satisfy consumer demand. Whenever you dont have a market place you cant satisfy demand consumer demands or establish a sufficent way to make market calculations. And i can go on. But in the end its all about the standard of peoples lives, and more importantly, giving people the basics which in many occasions it just didnt happen. Hence me saying "focus on those who starved to death"

  • This must of been the longest Gene Simmons has gone without a shag.

  • "Fighting communism is as noble as fighting facism" - Dennis Prager.

By 'fighting' communism - and oppressing it - That IS Facism.

  • I used to have so much time for Bill Maher, but this has disappointed me.

  • I have a lot more respect for Whoopi Goldberg after seeing this.

  • Ironic bill though killing 2 million Vietnamese was worth it, and hitches was against

now hitchens is ok with killing half a million Iraqis but bill is now antiwar... something is strange about people and how they change...

  • Did not realized Bill Maher used to sound so stupid...

  • Bill Maher speaks of young soldiers as if they are merely pawns. War, most of the time, is just a game of the ruling elite. If you get enough media hype behind the war game and create a narrative that everyone agrees with, you can convince young people to willfully sign themselves up to be chess pieces for the ruling elite. It's an easy game to make too, if you've got the money and power. All you need is a foreign, enemy King. Twisted individuals can be easily tailored into ruling villains.

  • @983215ljhlkadbspig6y Speaking of soldiers as though they may die in a war for a righteous cause is not equivalent to speaking of them as pawns in a pointless game. War is sometimes called for, and then their deaths are very meaningful, indeed a rational choice on the soldiers' parts. Maher argues that, despite that many soldiers were wrongly denied a choice in the matter, such is the case for the Vietnam War in particular, and your generalizations about war at large, are irrelavent.

  • @983215ljhlkadbspig6y

    It's because they are pawns.

  • @983215ljhlkadbspig6y 20 to 30 years ago people have called you a tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theory.

With all of the recent events, and all of the leaked information about the war and how our freedoms have been stripped from us most people know that you are absolutely correct.

  • Hitch has to stop dying. that is an order.

  • @TheRealSmacker He really is the voice of reason ... i dont know what the world will do without him

  • @TheRealSmacker he refused =/

  • @TheRealSmacker Too late God got pissed, from receiving an arrow in the knee so he revoked his Atheist Pimp Card!

  • @TheRealSmacker R.I.P Hitch

  • @TheRealSmacker He was never good at taking orders. :( RIP

  • I'm for the -ISMS that ensure freedom. The -ISMS attached to Marx & his ilk ensure enslavement.
