@theidiotsamongus Same for the Flag man Harold Kinder , Kinder attained near-hero status at Talladega in '87 when Allison's car cut a tire, sailed backward into the frontstretch fence and ripped away wiring and posts. Although it seemed the machine would smash into the flagstand, Kinder staunchly grabbed the yellow flag and waved it furiously.
@racefan32 Well the man has a job to do and he's not going to let a huge stock car shake him up... And that was when CAUTION was needed most, and he let it be known!!!
2 things of note in this vid - the idiot hanging on the catch fencing just past the finish line when the cars are taking the checkers, and 'Victory Lane' is just a roped-off grass & dirt area in the infield! Also, the twilight of the 'big cars' in Nascar.
AWESOME!!!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!! Ironically, 6 years later, another 'Bama gang member, Bobby Allison, defeated Dale Sr. in very similar fashion on the last lap of the Winston 500.
The next year, Bobby's son Davey Allison won the race. This was also the race where Bobby Allison crashed into the catch fence when his engine failed and pieces hit the tire causing the blow out. Bobby's car flew and destroyed a section of catch fence. Now Nascar put a restricter plate on all the cars.

Cale won at every track he raced on in his time... He probably just didn't win THIS race.

Tremendous racing, I was there and it seems like yesterday. We won't see racing like this again, I was lucky to witness it.

Cool video!
It's sad though that three out of the four drivers fighting for that win had untimely deaths and aren't with us anymore... RIP

@DC322 This was 1980....not 1986 as you're thinking about. Davey Allison is 7 years away from Winston Cup at the time this race was run.

@LT1HILLINGHOE My mistake. Bobby Hillin Jr. won his first race as a rookie at Talladega
