The NES version of the game did not allow any scoring over 49. All outcomes were predetermined. If you looked in the technical side of the game, all the numbers on the season line on a hex editor indicate the amount of possible points and amount of wins you will have in a season. For example, the computer will let you score up to a certain amount of points, but then will do anything in its power to stop you. Therefore, this is the same engine they use in madden 09-12 for the 360 and ps3...

@joemosberger No cheating was done here, anytime a receiver is covered in tecmo bowl (notice lack of the word super) there is a 99% chance that the ball will be intercepted. The only exceptions being Montana to Rice and even that tandem gets picked off more than half the time in this game. On the other hand, Tecmo SUPER Bowl (the next game in this series) is when the automatic interception was altered. The second game is based on stats and weights.

The glitch in the game involves only the Bears. If the computer blitzes you in your own endzone and you throw it to Walter Payton, even though the computer player intercepts the pass, the game awards a touchdown to the Bears. However, you can throw to any other player on the same play and the game calls it an interception. Its pretty clear who the game creator's favortite team was.

hey i always go for 2 point conversions instead of extra points and i havent missed one yet. i once scored 152 points in a game...something like 19 touchdowns and 19 2-point conversions in 1 game. i scored on every possession & never got touched by the defense. it was like 'flawless victory' only instead of mortal kombat it was tecmo super bowl. lots of peeps tell me i am the best they ever seen. i guess i am blessed or just luckier than most. i give all the praise to god first of all, thank you
