  • I knew I recognized him.........He became a backstreet boy!

  • incredible rendition of Midsummer's Daydream! Well done!

  • Awesome job!!

  • awesome,great legato,bravo good sir.

  • Wow! Well done!

  • Wow. Not only do you play it well - you have your own vibe to it without disrupting the song. Most impressive.

  • Great job & technique - one of the best I've seen so far. I'm nowhere close.

  • Beautiful and inspiring! My playing's got a looooong way to go :-)

  • @bstruebing1969 Just keep at it! Thanks for the comment,

  • Hahaha bravo, flawless, i've been looking for this song myself for ages (it helps when you know the title haha), so that i can work it out for myself, thanks man, this is very inspirational. ^^THUMBS^^

  • @guitdude09 Thumbs back at ya!

  • this song is the reason i started playing guitar lol my stepdad bet me i couldnt play this song (which i still cant -_-) i tried for months and months

  • @HerCorpseReanimates This is the song that introduced me to an altered tuning. Hope you return to practicing this tune so you can win the bet!

  • I'm pretty sure I've accounted for at least 100 of these views. Oh, and I'll put money on it that the one dislike you have is from some dude who's been struggling with this song for years.

  • @HailCostanza Haters gonna hate.

  • Heh,I got the first harmonic part down, now for the rest of it.

  • @jonnyasprin HAHAHAHA! I remember when I learned the harmonic opening, and was like, "YEAAAHHHH!", when trying to get the next part, it was like, "NOOOOOOOOOO"

  • @jonnyasprin Get to work - and post a version - when you're ready.

  • nice,my skill level will now allow me to play a piece like this,I just learned "don't tell me " by Madonna.

  • Great job! I have just started trying to learn it myself. Your playing was fantastic.

  • Comment removed

  • That was beautiful.

  • Excellent playing pal!

  • Fanstastic job Man! I've been playing this myself since around 86'. Still trying to fully master it.

  • @MrXAVIERDB It's hit or miss with me. I cringe at the performance in some parts but at least it's honest. Rik was a major influence on my playing growing up too.

  • I 'm floored at how smooth you play this piece.i love watching this while i am learning it !!!awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @gazoo10 while watching a hockey game no less! lol. Please post a vid when you're ready - love t see/hear it.

  • That. Was. Incredible!

Has this song ever been played on nylon strings? Has anyone tried it on a classical guitar?

  • @triplexxxsatyr RIk has. There are some vids on here that do but the intonation gets a little wonky in the upper frets to my ear.

  • Thanks! I'll find them and see how they go.

  • Awesome!

  • @SuperDannyr1 Thanks.

  • Fantastic!

  • @shevegas2008 Glad you liked it.

  • wow now i suck! off to throw my guitar in a lake now...

  • @kab1341 Oh please - this is a tough little piece. I'm sure you play fine.

  • I've been trying to play this song for a few years now. Seeing you play it gives me hope that someone other than Rik can play it properly... it also depresses me when I realize how much I have to learn. Love your vids, great inspiration as well as reference. Thanks. - AMT

  • How can you play this without braking your fingers?? Nice song, great gitarrist :-D

  • saffron .........what sound or effects (reverb or delay) are you using .im trying to get a sound like that.....thanks

  • wow awesome job.........now i have t learn it somehow.......

  • Yep, I agree with some the others, best Midsummers cover yet. I noticed on of Chanson's pieces you commented and he replied back you were a helluva player. Well, he wasn't lying, that was spectacular. Very well done sir!!!

  • @43robb There's actually a tutorial from Rik himself - old video, on YT.

  • @saffronboots would u be able to send me the link to that, I couldnt find it

  • this is the best rik emmett mid summers daydream cover i have ever saw

  • is that not a larivee? awesome playing too. It sure is tough for a guy to find the tabs/music for these older songs any kind of input as to the whereabouts of tabs could someone please respond. THIS IS THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG ON YOU-TUBE PERIOD...

  • @jazvanna not a Larrivee. It's a guitar I built myself. Don't know where to get a TAB for this. Thanks for watching.

  • Best cover on the 'net! Wow, man! Just...Wow.

  • Dude...simply put....you ROCK!!!!!

  • Wow thats brilliant, perfectly done, I have been playing this for friends for a long time but never done it that flawlessly, and that crisp, you really captured the essence of the song good job man! just wow.

  • There is a video on here in which Rik shows the runs and how he plucks them out. It was very enlightening in getting me over the hump.

  • Perfect

  • Close, but thanks!

  • Dayyyuuum! As a major Triumph/RE fan, I am impressed my friend! NICE!!

  • Thanks!!

  • Well done! Nice Cover Flawless!

  • I like the feel, if not the complete execution. You're very forgiving.

  • Your too hard on yourself. Its a very hard to piece to learn. But you pulled it off.

  • Excellent job! I love playing this one but it is hard!

Practice sure pays off, don't it?

    Thanks for the music!

  • You're welcome. I keep practicing and still have errors... it never ends.

  • Warren,

I love watching you play. It inspires me to do more with my guitar. Thanks for this piece... It sounds great.

Do you also play, "Mood for a Day" and/or, "Classical Gas?"

  • Not really. When I played in public I'd get cat calls for Gas. I learned the first four chords just to tease people. No happy endings!

  • Wow the harmonics sound great on your guitar. I'm working on this song but I can badly hear mine :P

  • A couple of things to try: heavier string gauge, and plucking the noted closer to the bridge.

  • you b jammin lol, great job!!

  • me b thankful!

  • OUTSTANDING!!!!...100 STARS!!!!!

  • Alas, you're only allowed 5... Woe is me.

  • Amazing! I'd love to be able to play something like that ... that well.

  • Me too! I got lucky.

  • Perfect!!...thx for the ups on this one S...but i'm nowhere close to what you have down..nice job!

  • Practice practice.

  • Excellent job my friend. Got the tone and feel spot on

  • Thank you sir.

  • I've been into Triumph and Rik Emmett since "Just a Game" all those many years ago. You did this piece (my fave Rik solo) true justice. Not just the notes, but the feel of the song. Bravo, sir.

  • Thank you very much. I can definitely credit my enthusiasm for fingerstyle to Rik Emmett primarily. And from the same time period as you. Fantasy Serenade? Hmmmm.

  • Great technique and feeling to your performance. Kudos man, that was awesome.

  • Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Absolutely fantastic - oh how I wish I could play this song. Really well done man!

  • Thank you sir.

  • Your strumming blows mine away, actually!

  • My bad flamenco (flamingo)...

  • Very nice!

  • Thanks.

  • This inspired me to learn the song. I posted a video of it. I think I rushed it a little; I should have played it a little slower. Also, the acoustics in the room weren't the best.

  • You still did a great job!

  • Bravo! Best cover of this song I've ever heard. You nailed it.

  • Thanks. I just wish the runs were a little cleaner, but I had just learned how to do them properly (a la Rik).

  • Very nice, magnificent piece. From what i've been told there is a certain tuning. If there is what is it ? again superb & thank you for the vid.

  • The tuning is DADGBE (Dropped D).

  • I saw Rick play this song last night in Georgetown, Ontario.

    Excellent cover!!!

  • Wow! this is almost better than the original! I wish to play it as well as you. Just a quick question: the sound is perfect ( reverb somehow); is the back of your kitchen that vast to creat that sound? :))

  • Well, I did place the mic a further away than normal, but I'd say it's mostly a little Mac magic. Thanks for watching.

  • Outstanding. This is a very difficult piece.

  • Yes, yes it is. It's the runs that mess me up the most. Thanks for commenting.

  • When I saw the title of this "Midsummer's Daydream cover" I was, no way this guy can make it sound good at all. Wow, was I ever wrong. Great job, nice guitar, awesome cover.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I was able to surprise you. Ha ha!

  • Wow! That was awesome. Keep up the good work.

  • my favorite bro. i really appriciate the post and your contribution to the world of youtube. rik couldn't play it any better...

  • Very nice version, great sounding guitar by the way. Guess I should dust of my tab on the song, it's been a long time. Thanks for sharing.

  • I would love to get a copy of the tab if you still have it. Or anyone?????

  • Jesus, I though oohindie's versions were good. This without a doubt the best cover I've seen of any song on youtube. You nailed it in every detail. It sounds EXACTLY like the real recording!

I see you're not signed to a label, that's mindblowing. Someone with your talent should be.

  • ya that's really impressive dude. i'm learning it by watching this video. haha

  • best cover I have ever seen of this piece. don't think rik could play it any better. excellent work.

  • wow that was an amzing coverr

    great job

  • MAGNIFICO !!!!

  • perfect!

  • Warren - you are a very tasteful player - Is there a G on the headstock of that guitar? It sure sounds like it

  • Awesome. Have been playing for awhile now and that is the song I want to master. Warren, you make it look effortless. I look forward to every post. Keep them coming.

  • hats off to you man!!!

this is one of my all time favorite song.

  • Without a doubt the best cover!! Awesome job!

  • Amazinggggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • Incredible cover.

  • Dude! That rocked - best cover out there! Very well done!!!

  • oh my friggin god

this is the best cover I've heard of this song yet

    amazing job =]

  • Very nice! I truly enjoy your playing. You use some different chord progressions than I have seen, I am learning this tune and I like what you do. Is it possible to get the tabs?

Keep sharing your gift.. Scott H.

  • Hi Scott, send me a PM and I'll share the tab I found - it's not exactly how I play it however. I think the major difference is the run on strings 2-5: Rik keeps it on those strings while I prefer to use 1-4 (1st position chords?) for part of it because it's easier on a 12-fret guitar.

  • nice job i love this song and damn man, you nailed it

  • Thanks Dave. It's been a long time coming - and there are still errors! Ugh!

  • Put me to shame you b@stard! Walnut and redwood never sounded so good!!!

  • I must be getting old. Even my eyesight can't keep up with the finger movements ! (well, thats my excuse). To have a go at playing it myself i have no hope ! Still watch this everyday and never get bored of it. Beautiful playing

  • Ha ha Denis! It's cedar btw. Redwood's on the classical.

  • Exceptional ! Beautifully played. I have a hankering to own a De Jonge guitar myself or do the course & make one would be better still.

  • Thanks. It was quite the experience building this guitar as it was the first real woodworking project I had done. Frustrating at times, but extremely rewarding in the end.

  • Hey thats pretty good. I finally covered it myself please check it out.

  • Thanks and will do.

  • Looks like I never got around to making the video. I remember getting the music to this piece when I was a teenager, and I rememeber picking a few strings during that run. I can see how frustrated you could be trying to do it as one continuous hammer-on and pull-off!! I'm sure it will be alot more fun to play...scott

  • Hey I remember this tune! I still play it! I will make a video of it tomorrow....great job, I never hear this one anymore, thanks for keeping it alive...Scott

  • Playing this has been pissin' me off for 22 years...

  • why? is it the harmonics in the beginning??? lol

  • Nah, it's that stupid little run right after them.

  • Just take it slow....like instant replay slow. You seem very proficient on the guitar, but if you isolate that one section, and really concentrate on it, you will break through it....I really should make a video of this song, I've had so much to do lately, but I will try to make it and post it today...I will try!!!!! Scott (I still think you play well!)

  • Actually I saw a video of Rik explaining the tune. I didn't realise he picked each string through the run. I was always trying to do it as a series of hammer-ons/pull-offs from top to bottom. Made it much easier.

  • dude. nice job!

  • Thanks Joe.

  • wow nice job dude. That was great, you just got another subscription =)

  • Thanks. I'm just two subs shy of 300... then I'll post my shoutout video!

  • I have never heard this piece. I really like it. Nice guitar work! You guitar sounds really good too--cedar and walnut evidently work very well together. Thanks for posting. -Derek

  • When I built this guitar, I took note of what wood combos Lowden was using.

  • Wow! You built that guitar?!? That's fantastic! I recently attended the Newport Guitar Festival in Miami Beach. It was my first opportunity to play a lot of handmade guitars, and it was just awesome. I told my wife on the way home "no more 'off the rack' guitars for me." :-) Are you planning to attend the Summer NAMM Show in Nashville, TN this June? -Derek

  • It was a fun, frustrating project I did with Sergei de Jonge. The only show I'm attending is the Montreal Guitar Show at the end of June. Many of the big time luthiers will be there, and tormented by me!

  • Very Nice!!!

    As always....5 stars!

  • Thanks Spauchi!

  • I have not heard this tune before, you play it great and your guitar sounds great too, and I love this "Watch in high quality", because you sound even better.

  • You should append &fmt=18 to the URL for hi-fi sound!

  • ✰✰✰✰✰+...!

  • Thanks.

  • I apologize for the multiple uploads, but I finally found the correct video parameter configuration for synchronizing the A/V in HQ format. I'll be re-encoding some of my previous videos to take advantage of the new settings.
