  • their songs are classic. never get tired of listening. i have been listening their songs since i was high school.

  • @disneylandaroundworl same thing here (:

  • The whole thing with the moving pillars is pretty epic. Just sayin. :-)

  • 1:27 is it because her feet are stinky that she soaks them??

  • so beautiful...

  • you missed your chance. he's fall in love with Esmeralda!

  • Quelle musique, quelle orchestration, quel parolier, quel interprète!

  • Amazing!

  • I have goosebumps.

  • Passion makes him so human !!!

  • J'adore cette chanson :) !

  • 0:38 she's like 'boriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiingg' -_- But this song is one of my favorites! I love Daniel, he's french canadian like me and I totally know what he feels when he sings 'moi qui me croyait l'hiver, me voici un arbre vert. moi qui me croyais de fer, contre le feu de la chaire' <3

  • Frollo's character is portrayed absolutely perfectly. He wants to give in to the lust he feels for this woman, but at the last minute whatever sanity is left in him comes back. Those walls do more than just look cool, they add to the emotion...

    * That was my rhyming Russian translation to go with the music. I hope you've enjoyed :)

  • While I like Marakulin's portrayal of Frollo, I really love (and prefer) the French version, it is so poetic and beautifully performed...below in the next few comments is my Russian rhyming translation of the lyrics to go with the music:

  • I have the dvd of notredame de paris in hd and i love that show its the best i ever seen i feel the magic of tu vame detruire(you kill me ) tu me destrozas really magic and belle(beauty)bella i always feel the passion for a woman

  • After hear this song and the others, i'm sure this is the one I prefer! I love it !

  • I prefer italiano version from Matteucci...I think he put more energy and passion in this song..he put all his soul!

  • This song has really grown on me through the years.

  • i'm italian but i think that the french version is the best ...i love frollo

  • @l1o2v

I am french and prefer the italian version :-), but french is a clear second best, for me. Anyway, both outperform any other language!

  • No wonder why french or italian are considered to be the languages of lovers. English version sucks, does not carry 1% of the emotion of the french/italian version....

  • @Cephalocereus7 and of course the french and italian Frollo's do this scene so differently yet both are fantastic.

  • @alliecat889

Yes it is amazing to see how different Mateucci and Lavoie act this song (sad but strong, & passionate for Matteucci, sad but desperate & lost for Lavoie), yet both are amazing, because they can bring so much emotion with their voice.

  • @Cephalocereus7 I completely agree, it is impossible to say which version is better because they each bring something unique to the role.

  • goosebumps...

  • his voice is sooo charismatic

  • Such a solid and straight man like a rock suddenly fells in love with a zingara... congrats Daniel you acted so well and I am in love with you now...

  • What is frollo.....? Is he like a priest or something....?

  • @Animebuddies101 priest

  • I think its a big world katastrof that justin biber or who else,, has thausands more views,,,I do not have anything contrary ,,but this is just world music and Notre Dame De Paris is immmortal,,,,God bless Richardo Cocciante for this wonderfull music,,,

  • I dream about Daniel <3

  • Not sure if anyone would know. But are there people in the moving pillars?

  • @intoTaboo yes, you can see the ruptures in the pillars for them to see where to push

  • I know that feel.

  • cet homme chante comme un dieu!

  • THE WALL WILL CRUSH ME!!!!

  • best part in the whole show!

  • WOAH! I never thought that Frollo could be so deep!

  • magnific

  • It makes me cry.

  • amazing song

  • riccardo cocciante is amazing

  • I think I am in love with Frollo....

  • @mjforlife17 I think I'm in love with every single man who sings in this musical.

  • @Boutiqueeny same lol. i just LOVE the acting of Quasimodo. I mean...walking around like that and in that costume...i mean...I gotta give him props

  • @mjforlife17 so am I ... <3

  • Oh...it`s so beautiful....perfect.

  • not a fan of this song, cause of melody which is somewhat progressive and everything, but, its a little too repetative for my taste.simply doesnt have an effect on me, i dont know :/ although i love the notre dame de paris.i think its a better feeling to sing it than to listen to it, due to technical part of it,and expression needed to roll it out.

  • I love the moving "Pillars". The walls closing in around him. Slowly going insane. Being suffocated. The minimalistic set is brilliant. It really allows for songs like this to really shine for the music and the actors.

  • PERFECT!!!!!!

  • @ :21 I spent a whole minute trying to wipe that smudge off..

  • Very lovely and well performed......desire a very powerful drive.

  • Süchtig nach diesem Lied - addicted to this song - possédée par cette chanson !!!!

  • this esmeralda .. come on she's not good. not sexy. She should be a gipsy , but she's far away from that.

  • Indeed he desired her for her beauty!!!!Sush desire is rare among people!!!!But you can feel him perfectly!!!!He just didn't find the right way toshow his love to her...Pitty!!! :'(

  • This is amazing...I have shivers all over me...

  • Notre Dame De Paris -

  • The English version of this song is beautiful, but DAMN this is extraordinary beyond compare!

  • He does such a wonderful job of portraying a man who is scared of what he would do if he let his guard down. He almost allows the walls to crush him, but he can't do it. Bravo to Daniel for conveying such a complicated character so well!

  • What a beautiful voice, and strong .

  • Love this song!

  • i love the way he says "Detruire". what a voice

  • Daniel is so talented!! His expressions are very realistic. Amazing song.

  • La meilleure interprétation de Frollo.

  • I adore this song. It is amazing!

  • very powerful expressions!

  • Yes it's soooo touching...

  • ya original lyrics are the best proud to speak french

  • Best song in this musical... this or belle

  • @KniRoi

Tu Vas Me Detruire for the win! :-)

  • Really emotional and well sung.

Also, what if he forgot to push away the walls.

    Yum, Frollo-Pancakes!

  • I love this song, I feel his pain.... Gosh can't get enough!!

  • Fantastic, I adore this musical actor.

Fantastic, I adore this musical actor.

Fantastic, I adore this musical actor.

Fantastic, I adore this musical actor. He is the best of this musical opera.

  • made me cry

  • THESE WALLS WILL CRUSH ME!! THESE WALLS WILL CRUSH ME!!

  • lol its amzing====== beutiful and the same time very sad ======= i love this song

  • 39 dislike 39 moron brain!

  • Heavenly sound!!!

  • Why are there people who dilsike this????

  • @cherryJ11 ..... those people thought dislike, means: dis i like.....

  • I love this song... But I love it even more when Daniel both sings AND plays the piano <3

    youtube.com/watch?v=r1JJoJEopLc&feature=related

  • @666secretvid

The link didn't work for me, but I think I know which video you mean. If it's the one I'm thinking of, I love it too. He sings with so much passion it's amazing. Ah, Lavoie. <3

  • I just discovered this musical and I have to say, it's pretty cool. My favorite parts are the ones that include Frollo, and this song is amazing, as is Daniel Lavoie. I would love to see this live.

  • Oops sorry small correction: the chorus rhyming translation can be: CHORUS: You will destroy me, You will destroy me, And I will curse you for as long as my life will be You will destroy me, You will destroy me, From the first day and that first night I knew this passion will kill me You will destroy me, You will destroy me, You will destroy me
  • i always hear him singing "why keep it quiet?" at 1:42 , anyone else noticed that? :D

  • @Kamilla240 it sort of sounds like it, but what he is really singing during 1:42 is "Moi qui me croyais..." :)

    l

  • @666secretvid thanks for clarification, it doesn't sound so much like it anymore!

  • My sin and my obsession Feel like a dark possession No end to this great torment It haunts me every moment The merchant of illusion, You caused my soul's confusion

I live anticipating Your dancing and your singing

    CHORUS

Now I'm not like a winter But like a spring tree, younger A man of steel no longer Can't fight this fire, it's stronger And so these flames consume me Caused by your eyes, oh gypsy, More black than any midnight, More secret than the moonlight

    CHORUS

    I hope you enjoyed :)

  • These constant waves of passion Flood my veins like an ocean Within them there's no pity

I sense they will defeat me No one will save me now There's no denying how I'll drown so soon I know With no remorse to show

CHORUS: You will destroy me, You will destroy me, And I will curse you for as long as my life will be You will destroy me, You will destroy me, From the beginning I've foreseen one day this passion will kill me You will destroy me, You will destroy me, You will destroy me

  • I love this French version of the song. In my next comment is my version of the English rhyming translation.

  • He is a very good singer, but a musical (or opera, as you wish...) needs also actors. For this reason, I think that the best Frollo is Vittorio Matteucci, from italian version. Matteucci show a desperate and anger love, exactly like Claude Frollo in the book of Victor Hugo.

But, I repeat: this interpretation, under singer point of view, remain good.

  • magnificent :D

  • 0;21 - such a beautiful woman !

  • Elle m'a déjà détruite ...:)

  • People should really stop saying he's not as expressive as the italian Frollo. He's playing a priest, he's not supposed to be overly expressive and flamboyant and the mark of a good actor is the ability to transmit feelings through his voice and eyes, without having to gesticulate excessively. I know everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but this competition, french-canadian original vs italian version should stop.

The original is better in so many ways. and I'm italian.

  • @Hippyrose89 i couldn't agree with you more, i felt that the Italian version of this song was over the top and i felt like he was all over the place, while with this one you could feel his pain and frustration at lusting after Esmeralda and knowing that its a sin to do so. Both are good but i feel this one is the best. On another note, i really felt that the English version was dull and inexpressive, like not even pain just him singing with no emotion.

  • @alliecat889 thanks for mentioning the expression of pain, frustration and lust, cause youtube comment limit wouldn't let me :p but yes, I study translation and this was the subject for one of my papers. the original is clearly out of the competition cause... well, it's the original. other than that, the best versions are the spanish and the korean one. the italian and especially the english just plain ruin the magic of the lyrics (let alone the meaning itself).

  • @Hippyrose89 I agree. True, Matteucci is more expressive, but Frollo's a priest in Medieval Paris. Anyone who knows their history would know he's not supposed to be expressive. What I like about Lavoie's performance is how tense his body language becomes when he sees Esmeralda and that's the first time we see him as more human and it frightens him. I like that Matteucci's version has more of a temper and his reaction to Esmeralda is cursing her, but Lavoie's performance just seems more human.

  • Comment removed

  • Rispondi a questo video... Really? Do you really think he's better than Vittorio Matteucci? I think an Italian Febo and the hunchback is better in French. but really, Frollo (the character) is fiery, passionate, tormented and angry ... I also think he is good and external distress .but it lacks the anger of a man who knew he could not fight the passion in spite of religion, and that Matteucci puts us all

    I am Italian of course

  • translation is really bad.

  • @PommeIndigo it's not that bad....some things I think could have been translated better, but overall it's pretty good...it has a good balance of capturing what the French says and flow...you can't really have both, its one or the other...a balance of the two is the best you can get...I'm curious though, with which phrases do you take issue?

  • Something you want so much that you fight with urself so not to have it, but the feeling of undeniable want is still there...Frollo i feel for ya my man i really do.

  • @DianaPhotoArt I disagree with you you obviously don't know anything about french music education :) he is one great french singer

  • @TinaHenry24 I didn't speak about him like a singer (I can guess he is a good singer), I'm speacking about him in this musical as Frollo.

And I repete, I don't like him as Frollo, or... I really prefer the Italian Frollo!

  • very good song......

  • @Nejidabest no, the right translation is "you will destroy me" =)

  • my French is not good at all, but wouldn't "You will be my Destruction" be a better translation of the title? honestly asking.

  • "I thought it was the Autumn of life, yet here I am green in the Spring again

I thought I was a man of steel, far from the heat of flesh, yet I'm on fire and burning for her eyes...."

these lines alone capture Frollo's character and his struggle. The poor man deserve to be pitied, not hated and this actor does a beautiful job of allowing the viewer to feel for the wretched Count Frollo. I love this play!

  • Does anyone know if there is someplace where you can buy a dvd of the full musical?? Because I love this performance, and I don't want to have to go through all of the youtube videos and try and watch them in order....

  • @the1andonlyJadalyn I don't know where, but I know it exists, my best friend used to have it when we were younger. :)

  • @Coloursule Gosh Thanks! I would kill for a copy lol maybe not kill but probably maim. This is just that epic.

  • Comment removed

  • @BruckMahl Je pense que 'You will destroy me' est meilleur parceque c'est une traduction plus proche au français.

  • @MebefromBelgium

Oui. "You are going to destory me," est trop rigide. Normalement, on dit, "You will destroy me." :)

  • @BruckMahl oui

  • @AlanoffSky

  • @PizdezTovarichi

  • @AlanoffSky

  • @PizdezTovarichi

  • @AlanoffSky

  • @PizdezTovarichi

  • @PizdezTovarichi

  • @AlanoffSky

  • @AlanoffSky

  • I love italian's song.. VIVA L'ITALIA! SONO FIERA DI ESSERLO!

  • ...I know I should be commenting on the sheer genius of this performance, but I'm too amused with the thought of how fun it would be to be one of those people trying to run him over as a wall.
