All I can say is: Of course Xplane 10 looks better than default FSX. It's 2008 vs 2011. Realistic, those physics are not, but I can't say they are worse than FSX. For those saying you have to pay for everything in Flight; Well, don't you pay $70 for Xplane? Xplane may be the way to go heading into the future but until Flight and its intent is fully unveiled, we can't know.
if xplane spent more time making their A/C like fsx with VC panels and realistic knobs and switches ill buy it but they dont, the make their aircraft look like shit. For example the engines dont spin the panel doesnt have VC and theres alot of problems with the way their planes look.
I personally like FSX better. But I also like X-plane, because it's smoother then FSX and softer on my computer, as you can have Scenery settings set to medium in FSX and there will be no Trees, Buildings, ect. and you can set scenery settings in X-plane to medium and theres buildings everywhere, and it doesn't lag. I think it's just the looks that throughs both of them in the spotlight.

This was recorded with the rendering options of low, that means the graphics are going to be horrible. Im not saying that the x plane graphics are good, im just saying that they are way better than what you see on this video.
If you're willing to cough up a bit of money go to pro-flight simulator, awesome graphics plus good flight dynamics. I believe there is a deal going right now for full world roaming plus a better graphics setting for 75 dollars, then no more pay updates and can download community content such as planes, gauges ect.
Btw. I mostly use X-plane, and normally have the graphics turned way down, to give my computer more power to do the calculations for the flying. I don't need to see the computers and the coffee cups in the control tower, I just need to "feel" what the plane is doing.

About the differences. FS has a "flight model", from which the plane gets it's behavior, while Xplane constantly calculates what the plane would do now. Because of those differences FSX has better graphics and Xplane has better "feel". X-plane can actually have almost as nice graphics as FSX, but most computers can't handle the massive amount of data.
W/o any drama, and there are hundred of download scenery for xplane and they do make it that much realistic. If your serious about flying as I am, 1- Built a pc 2-learn Xplane. Best of all, xplane is not demanding on the pc! the pc runs cools and you can multi task and get graphics that are almost real life.
I used think that FSX was great, till I learned how to use xplane, and custom built my flight simulation pc. I built a i7, intell mb 12gb with a 2gb 6970 ati graphics card. With a 2tb hard drive, I have both fsx and xplane installed and fsx DOES NOT COMPARE TO XPLANE. The graphics in xplane are multiple times better! its far more realistic, far more stable, the detail on the plane are even better than fsx. You can change weather, time situation's with incredible graphics on a drop of a dime
They are both great games. FSX is great for home flying, whereas XPlane is used in commercial full motion flight sims, therefore is much much more realistic, some may say too realistic. The only issue is that FSX running on maximum settings is great quality, but, the hardware for XPlane is much more advanced, thus you need a VERY high end gaming PC, probably in excess of £1000 before you can play XPlane at even half it's best quality!
Like it or not, you're going to have to switch to X-Plane at some point if you want a sim that's up to date. There's no more Flight Sim dev. team at Microsoft, so there won't be an FS11. At least X-Plane is maintained and can be updated. If...Sorry, there IS bugs in FSX that won't be patched. And I'm not an X-Plane fan boy, I've only played the demo, but I've used Flight Sim since 2005.

The x plane interface is not user friendly. This game will not detect a joystick. After install there is no icon and you have to find the folder with the run program. Really awful design for a simulator.

Its just a myth that X plane has realistic flight model... Its over sensitive. In X plane you can fly default 747 like Cessna and Cessna like model plane. Most of people who know something about flying think so, FSX with proper addons is more realistic than X plane in every area.
Also X plane has no good addons with systems modeled, you have nothing that comes near PMDG.

I agree with you that both FSX and x-plane CAN be both very realistic, but never truly reach the realism of real flight. But x-plane is MOSTLY more realistic because the simulator provides the realism and not the developer such as in FSX.
@michelarjuna It can go on and on, but at the end of the day both are tabletop sims which do not approach reality, saying one is more realistic than the other is nonsense. Both can (and are) used in PCATD and FTD setups. Until someone comes up with a fluid 'artificial feel like system' (even the high end force feeback systems are 'junk'), that can be used with a desktop, it's completely fruitless to argue over which is more "realistic".
Here is the main difference: FSX uses a parameter flight model, X-Plane uses a geometry based model. In FSX, you can take a visual model of a Cessna 172 and make it fly like a B747. The two are separate files. In X-Plane, you design a plane that looks like a Cessna 172, and it will fly like one. The guages in X-Plane are very fluid and realistic. The FSX ones have a low refresh rate and can be buggy. Fsx covers the entire world. X-Plane only a section.
@MrAviator96 You're pretending you have a lot of knowledge when you clearly don't (demonstrated by saying X-Plane is "licensed"). In fact both X-Plane and FSX (as well at Elite, and others) are used as tabletop training aids (PCATD). Arguments over how "realistic" each one is are irrelevant, none will approach the reality of any aircraft. They are initial instrument trainers to save on flying time under the hood. Also FNTPs cost hundreds an hour to run, PC sims are pennies in comparison.

I fly airplanes, and to be honest. a boeing 757 does not manuver like that in real life. If those were real flight dynamics, it would have crashed in midair because of stress put on the structure. A boeing 757 is difficult to control.

The x plane interface is not user friendly. This game will not detect a joystick. After install there is no icon and you have to find the folder with the run program. Really awful design for a simulator.

@HongKongBoyz100 Its just a myth that X plane has realistic flight model...In every video ive seen its over sensitive and behaviour of even big jets reminds me from model planes. FSX default flight dynamics are not great, but surely even they are better than X plane ones. Most realistic experience out there on home computer is PMDG addon with FSX.

You fail to actually compare the two simulations.
It's "response."
That airport you mentioned consists of an array of broad gray lines and polygons.
Also, your camera pooped on the eye candy.
That said, X-plane 9 generally does have far superior flight dynamics to FSX. You just didn't pick good models to display that. X plane can have scenery approaching FSX, and better aircraft detail. Once again, your recording fails to show this.

@henryford6 First of. X-Plane is proved the second most realistic flight simulator. The winner is one of those 5 million dollar simulators. X-Plane has a lot better models than FSX when it comes to performance. The ONLY good thing that FSX has is good graphics. when x-plane 10 comes out, x-plane will about the same graphics and

Its just a myth that X plane has realistic flight model... Its over sensitive. In X plane you can fly default 747 like Cessna and Cessna like model plane. Most of people who know something about flying think so, FSX with proper addons is more realistic than X plane in every area.
Also X plane has no good addons with systems modeled, you have nothing that comes near PMDG.

I agree with you that both FSX and x-plane CAN be both very realistic, but never truly reach the realism of real flight. But x-plane is MOSTLY more realistic because the simulator provides the realism and not the developer such as in FSX.

@michelarjuna It can go on and on, but at the end of the day both are tabletop sims which do not approach reality, saying one is more realistic than the other is nonsense. Both can (and are) used in PCATD and FTD setups. Until someone comes up with a fluid 'artificial feel like system' (even the high end force feeback systems are 'junk'), that can be used with a desktop, it's completely fruitless to argue over which is more "realistic".

Here is the main difference: FSX uses a parameter flight model, X-Plane uses a geometry based model. In FSX, you can take a visual model of a Cessna 172 and make it fly like a B747. The two are separate files. In X-Plane, you design a plane that looks like a Cessna 172, and it will fly like one. The guages in X-Plane are very fluid and realistic. The FSX ones have a low refresh rate and can be buggy. Fsx covers the entire world. X-Plane only a section.

@MrAviator96 You're pretending you have a lot of knowledge when you clearly don't (demonstrated by saying X-Plane is "licensed"). In fact both X-Plane and FSX (as well at Elite, and others) are used as tabletop training aids (PCATD). Arguments over how "realistic" each one is are irrelevant, none will approach the reality of any aircraft. They are initial instrument trainers to save on flying time under the hood. Also FNTPs cost hundreds an hour to run, PC sims are pennies in comparison.

I fly airplanes, and to be honest. a boeing 757 does not manuver like that in real life. If those were real flight dynamics, it would have crashed in midair because of stress put on the structure. A boeing 757 is difficult to control.
