oh, if only the artist was not exposed to the art of the world. then they might have only what is in their innermost souls to express. i believe that it is, after all, the goal of a true artist.
"when it doesnt fit into a readily identifiable cubbyhole of comfortableness, it unnerves us, it moves us, that's what makes great art."
I hope you're not implying the tree is great art for those reasons. People are walking by it comfortably, in a gallery, where I assume this art is accepted and unchallenged by elites. Art isn't ignored today because it's so radically uncomfortable, it's ignored because it's so boring, and in many cases requires so little skill, no one's willing to pay for it.
So, art is about cannibalizing? The only reason to dislike a piece of work is it makes us "uncomfortable"? Is art really nothing more than a medium for shocking people? Isn't the greatest art about uplifting the spirit, and not about an adolescent agitation for agitation's sake? Doesn't great art feed us, rather than cannibalize us? Yes, great art can be tragic; it doesn't have to be positive. But to turn art into "whatever we say it is" destroys what art can do for us. (cont.)
(cont.) Pieces like those shown here are why people hate art. It has nothing to offer the onlooker but "cannibalization." Even if people can't explicitly define art, they know that this stuff is a mockery of it. Most contemporary artists take the position of, "you can't prove that this isn't art," and thus successfully intimidate people into accepting splotches on a canvas or hanging fabric as something meaningful.
I don't think it's possible to truly, honestly, LIKE this stuff. (cont.)
The works shown here serve the same purpose as the kind of philosophy that says we can know nothing, and values and facts have nothing to do with reality -- that purpose being to shock and disarm the naive listener into abandoning his ideas. Modern art is a sham perpetrated by those who were easily intimidated into giving up the attempt to think clearly and honestly..
If you actually watched the full video you would see that it wraps up talking about humanity. Again, I see nothing in your work that wraps up with humanity. You wrap up with the Hubble, Books, and Quantum Physics. Get real. Come down to earth. Life is wild and wonderful and it can't be wrapped up in some mathematical analysis. Integrate your body, mind an soul. Your thinking, emotions and spirit. You'll be a happier more integrated person because of it:)
People don't hate this art. You need to look at your own troubled mind, to own your own negative emotions and state what you think. So you hate the art? The piece asks you what machine system you belong to. I took a look at a couple of your videos and I see that you are a machine person. You like to play with electronic balls and pretend they are the sun.
"Get real. Come down to earth. ... Integrate your body, mind an soul....You'll be a happier more integrated person because of it:)... You need to look at your own troubled mind, to own your own negative emotions and state what you think." This is exactly the tactic of intimidation that I was referring to. I make an art analysis, and you start making up condescending stories about my character. That shows far more about your character than you'll ever know about mine.
I think Norman Mailer may have been right when he said he thought the reason Picasso's blue period pieces went for such high dollars was because the people that could afford them were never poor, would never be poor, and having a picture of tragic starving blind beggar on their wall made them more well rounded. It reminded them of humanity. I don't see humanity in your analysis of videos.
Making people uncomfortable doesn't mean that they are shocked. It makes them question, and look at the abstract. Of course great art feeds us. It feeds our imaginations, and minds, and gets people like you to actually have a feeling. Whether it be a feeling of joy, anger, fear or sadness.
Thank you so much! It means a great deal to me that you have taken the time to listen and comment. I love that our 'sexy' stuff drives traffic but we need more dialogues, more controversy, not less. Thanks again.

So? Talking about something is not the same as making sense about something.
"Again, I see nothing in your work that wraps up with humanity. You wrap up with the Hubble, Books, and Quantum Physics."
You're right, I don't do videos making cliche, PC generalizations about all of humanity. Art isn't the only thing worth making videos about.

You said "art is the only thing worth making videos about", I didn't say that.

Very good montage and commentary.
It is the sad truth that the human race has such a hard time picking up on. We are going in so many wrong directions.
Keep it up.
