First it is PSI Shield and they have differences. Ness covers himself with it but gets hurt by Physical but Lucas has his hand with it and any Special moves on the other side, he moves that way. You can also let go and it will attack the enemy while they're in the perimeter.
First off, their down B is called PSI Shield. Anyone who played Earthbound or Mother would know that. Second, Ness' standard B is PK Flash. And again, anyone who's played Earthbound would know that. You ever play Mother before?

yeah for the PK thunder you should just play the first super smash bros or practice with it to hit yourself cause i did that now im like the master with ness :) (probably not THE MASTER but im super good)
In melee they called it PSI magnet but im not sure about brawl or the mother/earthbound games

SSB : Ness was good down A was fast and a blast up B pk thunder if you hit yourself you travel half-a stage Ness=good
SSBM : down-a takes a year up-B pk thunder hit yourself is not strong and flies a half a mario jump ness-sucks!
SSBB : dunno :)
