Wow, that was seriously amazing. o.o I think it was the hairspray, but normally when people "smooth" the hair, the volume falls, but her's stayed perfectly in place and the final result looked beautiful.

wow really beautiful! big sexy is a REALLY good hairspray. its expensive--but good, :) teasing takes practice and time, and believe it or not,'quick' backcombing-well, theres no such thing! just take your time! and practice!

you are damaging the hair by putting hair spary before you tease that causes a lot of breakage. you tease then add hairspray for less damage

Teasing is soooooo bad for your hair. I used to do that all the time (my hair is crazy thin) until I came across Maxis Adjust-a-curl velcro rollers at Ulta. OMG - I wish I had these YEARS ago! My hair has SO much volume now that holds for hours. You all seriously should try these. You can adjust them to any size and create waves, give bump it height volume OR just give yourself a little lift. YOU control the volume - NO HAIR DAMAGE. I can't brag enough about these!!

I have a lot of trouble doing this to myself. For me at least, it seems like doing my own hair is more difficult than doing others'. I'm trying to get a psychobilly/pin up sort of look and this is probably the best back combing video on here. Awesome job!

I always do backcombing in my hair for just a little extra volume as i have a preety flat bob. but for dance competitions i have to do CRAZY backcombing but my hairs in great condition according to my hairdresser just make sure you use plenty of conditioner on the areas youve backcombed and wash it out well :)

isn't back combing not good for your hair? I've been told that it causes a lot of breakage- I dunno I could be wrong... is there an alternative option for attaining volume? I heard of this "as seen on tv" thing called "bump its"- they're like $20 for 3 and they're suppose to give you that glam volume at your crown- or the bob that everyone's trying to attain... i haven't tried it but I think those might be a better alternative than back combing- just a thought!

yes, I've mentioned in another comment that back combing/ "teasing" can cause damage. Some people like it though believe it or not. Back combing can cause breakage about an inch down the hair shaft. BUT this will make some shorter hairs that will lift the rest of your hair giving you volume. Plus, if you do it right, all of the breakage will be hidden. Refer to my "How to remove back combing" for the LEAST amount of damage :) Thanks!

Practice makes perfect! But no-I think it's really easy to do on myself. The keys to awesome back combing are to take the right sections, use a good hairspray, and doing the right circular motions with your fine-toothed comb.

Just follow the instructions in the video and it will last all day. Remember you can check the hold with your finger, if it budges then you haven't teased it enough.

Teasing with hairspray isn't any worse for your hair than teasing without hairspray. But you're right that teasing your hair isn't good for your hair. Sometimes it causes a little breakage, but it's a sacrifice a lot of people make. And a lot of people like the breakage underneath so it holds their hair and gives it more body.

Thanks for the tips, But i just have one question. Im at school for 8 Hours a day, and i just want to be positive that this will hold. I wear my hair very big, kind of that 'scene' hair style, and all throughout the day i have to stop at my locker and re-tease my hair a million times and i look like an idiot. Im trying to focus on my studies, so i dont really have time to re-tease my hair every hour, and by the end of the day my hair is stuck to my head. So bottom line, will this actually hold??

It sounds like you need to back comb higher up. Take a horse-shoe section at the crown of your head and back comb. Try it higher than you usually do. And then comb some hair other the back combing to smooth it out. Sometimes it just takes practice to make it look perfect for your shape of head, length of hair, or hair type. Don't give up though!

Usually you don't need to do too much back combing with curly hair because it already has volume. But if you are flat ironing curly hair or you just like a lot of volume in your curly locks, you would do this on dry hair. When hair is wet it is very brittle. If you try back combing on wet hair it will break and it won't hold. I hope this helped :)
