@Usacho I would agree in a sense. We grow older and go about our lives. Not paying attention to the external residue that permeates and lingers in one's life. Mold is a great association.

@MrTomMasterVideos Yeah, there is a story: this Stille Nacht film is inspired by the death of Swiss writer Rober Walser, during his incarceration in the Herisau Asylum. He was erroneously diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the author spent days in menial tasks as gluing paper bags, during 23 years. He was found frozen on Christmas day, in a field by the building. He was probably trying to run away.
@beatlesdylanyes Interestingly, Walser didn't show any real outward signs of mental illness, but refused to leave the sanitorium he was incarcerated in. He also was known for enjoying long walks by himself, and died of a heart attack right outside the mental ward. This film is titled Stille Nacht (Silent Night in German). Silent Night is a popular Christmas song, and Walser, as stated by the previous poster, died on Christmas Day.
I saw this on MTV in about 1989 when they sometimes used to show short art films between the videos. I like the way you can't tell whether the magnetic filings are threatening or not.
I think every video they did was influenced by the Quay brothers. As far as I know the only video they did was a small part in the Sledgehammer Peter Gabriel. If you like this check Jean Cocteau's film work. He was a poet who did very similar stuff.
The Quays are more influenced by Surrealism (which, contrary to popular association, Cocteau was NOT a part of). I'd suggest looking at the films Jan Svankmajer and Walerian Borowczik (the latter are almost impossible to find, but he actually influenced them more than Svankmajer).
This looks like a "The Calling" video tape. If my phone rings, i'll be fucked.

At first, it looks creepy, but when you learn to look at it, you can understand that it's incredibly beautiful.

adrianbenitez30 3 months ago
@adrianbenitez30 I believe it was meant to resemble snow, seeing how the Quay's were inspired by Robert Walser's death when they made the film.

Is it just me, or anyone else sees a correspondence between this and a mould? It's only a simple association but it makes sense for me.

Would had liked this one to be longer how old is that doll?
Lady0nline 2 years ago
The "Stille Nacht" series was always my favorite of all the Quays' work. I think the other two were videos for His Name Is Alive.
This cracked doll shows up again in color in "The Comb," I think it is. Love the cracked doll.
The really crazy thing about this one is that they're somehow stop-motion animating magnetized lead filings.
