@elgatochurro Grind with any other classes to get yourself to Lv 99 (Not skill lv 99, or get yourself to around lv 95 or so if you want to get your hands dirty with the Onion kids earlier).

Fight against the dragons to try and gain the rare weapon/armor drops that are a low chance on a rare enemy that's pretty resilient.

So you can imagine how tedious and long a task this is to get just ONE full set of Onion gear. Let alone 4.

I managed to get an onion sword and a piece of armor from a dragon then I just used the item upgrade trick to get the rest lol. I used shields though and you have to remove your shields to kill yourself!

Awesome thanks for showing. I tried grinding the levels legit until about 75 I think...I started hacking around then to make exp 'til next lvl = 1 so i can raise their levels naturally. I try to max out all FF's but this one was beyond my patience/time/life hehe. Thanks for letting us see what it looks like though! Hope you do more episodes like this.

Incidentally, I've gotten five sets of Adamant Armor in the Advance version of FFIV (I did it in the DS version too, but that's MUCH easier). That was a herculean task, and took about a month of doing nothing but beating up Flan Princesses for several hours a day (hey, I was unemployed at the time).

Still, I suspect four full sets of Onion Equipment legitimately is even more insane, since there are no Sirens in this game and dragons are so rare. The payoff is also smaller, I think.

considering you have to fight a couple hundred battles to find one dragon and the armour isnt even garunteed then I'd say it isnt worth it the honest way, I just got the FEOK at the beggining (still takes long to get the 99 potions though >.>)

I don't think it was. I suspect the programmers intended to reward REALLY persistent players with MAYBE one or two fully-equipped Onion Knights.

The glitch still takes some time and effort, but it's clearly a menu programming glitch and not something that's there by design.

In the DS version, while Onion equipment is still hard to get, tthere's a cave where you only fight dragons, so I got four full sets of Onion equipment legitimately.

I've used a glitch here though (the item upgrade glitch). It still takes a few hours though, even with the glitch.

Yes. Just walk around in the part before the Iron Giant. It'll still take a long time, but not nearly as long as on this version.

Hm? The Onion swords must deal more than 9999 damage a hit, even though that's what the damage meter displays, because there's no way you could have depleted all of Dark Cloud's 45,000 (at least) HP in one round otherwise.

There's actually no damage cap in FF3, but the most damage that can be displayed is 9999. So yes, they probably were dealing over 9999 damage.

You send Mognet messages back and forth to one of your friends, 7 times. (I changed the clock on my ds to make it go faster.)

Then you should get a message from Topapa, after you sent him enough messages. He'll say the children are in trouble, then you go talk to him. After talking to him, you go in the cave behind UR and save the kids. ^~^

They don't need to be at level 99 to kick ass. Have you heard of the Upgrade Trick? If not, look it up at GameFAQs. It gets the Onion equipment much more easily than fighting the Dragons, but doesn't require any hacking.

Yeah, I tried it and placed my items like it said I should and bought 99 potions. Guess what happened when I recieved potions in battle? Nothing! Unless it's a special version of the game or only for people being onionkids already, I don't know. I know however it was frustrating to do all the preparations and still get nothing...

In the DS version, the Onion Knight was actually a hidden class that required you to send SEVERAL messages via wireless. Thank goodness for Action Replay. I still did the actual sidequest for the Onion Knight class...I just used the AR to have enough messages sent.
