  • Very useful! I didn't know that the palm on the back of the head was incorrect.

  • These videos are more educational; they show the move, the correct positionings, and show you what not to do. Thank you very much.

  • you are a gifted natural teacher man, I especially like the 'common mistakes' approach, very effective way to improve

  • Oddly enough, Rafael Mendes consciously does #3 quite often, and on purpose. I wish I knew exactly why. I know it's often done when he does not feel there is enough space to get the support arm behind the neck. I've never seen anyone pull the hand off their head because every time he does it the tap comes super fast. I'd like to ask at a Mendes Bros seminar one day.

  • luv this vid really helpful tips... salute to you sir

  • great video! I really like the "salute tip" That makes the choke allot easier to remember and apply thank you sir!

  • "Give the salute while driving"

    LOL

  • hi guyz, we are ready to the gay bar !

  • this move is dangerous im just an average guy, and i applied this move on an opponent and almost killed him. Rear naked choke is no joke, be careful.

  • @msbensucks i agree. it should only be used in absolute need if you're not in BJJ or the like, the science behind it is that in takes about 10 seconds for the "opponent" to loose consciousness, ONLY hold the RNC 2 seconds after the defender looses consciousness. anymore will cause severe brain damage. 20 seconds after the hold is applied the brain dies of oxygen startvation

  • @jamesthera no doubt we where all drunk and wrestling and i went for the rear naked and i hadnt even realized the guy was out, another friend had to tell me he was out, when i let go his body was like a ragdoll and i was a bit scared until he woke up about 10 seconds later i thought i was gonna have to do CPR or something, and i dont really know how to do that either, hah. My advice is dont get drunk and play with moves like this, leave it to the pros, unless your defending yourself of course.

  • @msbensucks i know buddy. i was curious one day and so i got one of my submission ginuea pigs aand put him in the RNC (or a modified version of) and within 5 second i let him go and he was dizzy and blacking out sorta. it takes about the same amount of time for the oponent to regain consciousness....if they're not dead

  • holy crap, the first one I did not see coming

  • Am i okay just using a tight body triangle when applying a rear naked choke or should i use proper hooks like in the video? Does it make any difference?

  • @LeeAHHull as far as i know the leg triangle should be ok, butt im no expert, the leg triangle is sorta out of the way of anything the opponent can do anything effectively so for now the science nerd says u should be good

  • @jamesthera Cheers mate.

  • @LeeAHHull ... mate I asked my coach the same question as I preferred the body triangle for control ... but he also applied a foot lock on me from there somehow ?! ... Im sorry I cant tell or show you how he did it ( I think he rolled to the locked side in a certain way ? ) but he is a high level BJJ dude so maybe its gonna be ok in the lower and less experienced levels.

  • @shingitai333 Okay mate, cheers for the info

  • Nice post! Guilty, mine sucks too often.

  • LOL 2 more mistakes ( from a wrestling coach)

Use your big toes - try to get them behind and just above the back of the knee's this will allow you to control the oppositions legs.

When you lay back, elevate your hips and try to lower your toes below the knees and pull the legs apart.

Its a feel thing that you have to just gain experience at but even if you don't quite have the choke in you will NOT be reversed.

  • @ReformBarackObama Not at all sure I'm picturing what you're saying.

  • @ReformBarackObama Oh crap reverse that - your your toes need to wind up just ABOVE his knees -

  • now I can beat my 13yr old son.

  • haha my dad allready tried...it wasnt purty

  • Guilty in them all... thats why i never could do it right! This video was SO USEFULL!

  • 1st error, guilty. had no idea something like that could happen, and now i know something i can potentially do if i'm on the receiving end. thanks for the vid man

  • Guilty of the first one. I thought crossing the legs kept them from getting out of it. However, I've not using it on martial artists, or anyone who would know how to counter it. Just street punks. The Rear Naked Choke is the ultimate submission. There is no way out of it, and it takes them down fast without you having to be super technical. I'm telling everyone; master locking in The Rear Naked Choke and when to use it, and you'll never lose a fight again. Unless you fight Chuck Norris.

  • Wait..... He isn't Bass Rutten....

  • I actually used this for real. I used to do Loss Prevention (Undercover security). I was in a nasty street fight with a shoplifter. We both fell to the ground with him on top of me. I locked onto him. It was a lot tougher than in class. With him fighting, I could only get one leg hooked in properly. My lock on his head and neck felt awkward. But, he sure felt it though.

  • A Salute When You Drive xDD

  • Guys, buy his app! it explains in full detail all of the sumbissions (most of them)

  • great tutorial, straight to the point and one of the first tutorials ive seen that shows us common mistakes and how to fix them.

  • Thank you. All your videos and emails really help me and our mma team a whole lot. We appreciate everything you've done.

  • i actually dont do any of these i sometimes dont bother trying to get seatbelt but thats it

  • Greetings stephan, thanks for another great vid! However, i have a question.. Every time i get on my partner's back, he tucks his chin down and i have no idea what to do next.. I try squeezing my arm in or slicing in.. But therea no space!! Any advice please?

  • @ThisIsChai theres a senitive spot under the nose if you push up underneath the nose. put your finger on the upper of lip of the opponent and push up with force, the natural reaction to the pain and pressure is to jerk your head up which obviously exposes the neck. hope this helps!

  • Yep! I have a knee injury now because I crossed my feet. Not a smart thing to do.

  • Yup. guilty of #1. But no longer!

  • Do you have a training camp in Tampa area? I'd be interested in joining your training is spot on my friend!

  • this guy rocks

  • very nice! thanks for the info.

  • this is nub

  • @Arcturistheballer You have better suggestions?

  • @Virility yeah i do lol

  • @Arcturistheballer Care to share? I'd love to see what you have over Kesting...

  • @Virility yeah i do lol,. #1When you grab the harness, cover your choking arm with your other hand. #2 don't put your palm on the back of his head use the back of your hand. When you are choking roll him onto the side of the arm you are using for the choke. This shit is nub. maybe you can learn more from my post.

  • @Arcturistheballer You do realize he's illustrating the MOST COMMON ERRORS that he sees, right? The guy isn't "nub," this isn't a full instructional video.

  • @Virility yo dawg shit is nub, you said you would love to see if i had anything better, and i did. You not happy now bro? whats wrong

  • @Arcturistheballer I don't think it's better, and I think you missed the point of his video. That's what.

  • @Virility nah bro i think you lost and you cant admit it.

  • @Arcturistheballer Lost what?

  • @Virility gg brah

  • @Arcturistheballer Yes, gg indeed. Enjoy your perceived "win" in your imaginary internet pissing contest. I think you should get back to uploading your video game clips - that's pretty awesome, "brah". Welcome to ignore.

  • @Virility lol so nub glad u are mad cuz u got owned

  • @Arcturistheballer nah looks like he owned the shit out of you. You obviously have a very low IQ. Just quit while you are "ahead"

  • @Chldrnfbdm4 LOLUMAD2

  • thanks alot. :D

  • thx thx

  • Salute to the driver helped so much

  • Salute to the driver lmfao!!!

no but seriously thanx. i always make the 1st mistake. now i think about the mistake b4 i actually apply the rear naked choke all thanx to u =D

  • That foot lock at the start is very simple to escape that will never work if your defending

  • Thanks, easy to understand. My husband has tried to show me this again and again.. by "petting the head". I walk alone sometimes with a stroller and I don't know if I'd ever be able to pull it off but atleast I understand what NOT to do!

  • so basicly its the blood choke, just from behind?

  • wow i always make the first and last mistake thanks man

  • great videos man!!

  • thanks again.

  • you are the best of the best!

  • dude you are fuckin badass, this helps a crap load.

  • Interesting. I do the last mistake. The first too were very very basic tho.

  • Thanks for the detail explanation

  • this is very good but what exactly should your legs be doing that's the part I am having trouble with ?

  • i don't seem to get as much power on the choke when i use the back of my hand against the back of his head as opposed to the palm of my hand. the palm has worked fine for me so far anyway. i was guilty of the first mistake when i first started BJJ and was like what the hell when he ankle locked me. just got out of it and learned my lesson lol

  • roflmao... 'basically... think of it when you give someone a "salute" when you drive' :D

  • i hate it when people grab my head! i lose my nerves!

  • Yeah I take Gracie Jiu Jitsu, (the combatives course) and they always trained us to use palm on back of the head. Gunna take some practice to avoid this. And the ankle lock thing, awesome to know. I would love to perfect that as well. My friend would have won a NAGA tourny if he perfected this ankle lock.

  • I love the "salute" analogy. Definitely going to remember that. Awesome videos Stephan, keep it up!

  • got caught up once with the first one. OUCH :D

  • Very helpful AGAIN. Nice video

  • Third mistake.....totally guilty!

    Thanks again Stephan!

  • shoot me too!

  • @dscaife Youre not the only one!! I tend to put my hand on the back of the head to push. I know now not to do that.

  • i swear, if it wasnt for your videos, i would have lost enough inspiration to stop doing brazilian jiujitsu, thanks so much stephan!

  • "salute" will never get out of my head. Great video.

  • Wooooo!

  • It instinctively feels like you could apply more pressure to push the head down if your palm was forward - which does no good at all if the opponent slips it off. Nice details!

  • haha 'give the salute'

    good way of describing

  • GREAT TIPS.

  • These videos are always helpful. Thanx man.

  • great to know for beginners

  • Thanks man. That was useful

  • Thanks for all the years..... ! Always pick something up.

  • fact :)

  • Thank you. I knew crossing your feet was bad, but had no idea it could lead to a tapout.

  • Thanks for posting Stephan, The explaination was clear and precise.

  • Stephan Kesting = the man.
