@SatchmoSings - yes I agree. When I have heard others transfers of this disk (before I had my copy) I thought "oh no they've used reverb to try enhance the recording when they did their transfer". But no, this echoy effect is the way it was recorded.
@SwingBandHeaven Yes, in "those days" they actually achieved the effect by playing in hall too big for the ensemble and keeping the microphones just a wee bit too much away.
That, coupled with the other minimalist recording techniques (no limiters or EQ) and you get some results that include decent imaging and soundstage and dynamics, all things lacking on today's recordings.
@recordnerd21 Here's another version that swings more "harder" if I can use such language; it's Horace Henderson directing the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra.
This record was made in the Fall of 1933 strictly for European export; it was eventually released in the USA soon after WW2 started.
@TheOlivares95 - soryy, I just spotted your comment. I don't know where it can be downloaded but you could do a google search for MP3 downloads. That might throw up a few leads.
Anyone ever get the feeling, listening to music like this....That you belonged there? I get the oddest feeling listening to music from the 20's and the 30's......Like I'm home. Wonder if we will ever be able to prove reincarnation exists/or doesn't?
@ivanovitch57 COOL! It's just the oddest thing isn't it? It feels to me like I had been plucked right out of that time. It's really nice knowing someone else feels that way. Thanks for sharing.
Gotta love the sound of the Beethovensaal, Berlin! Such a bombastic sound! Thanks for uploading one of my favourite Jack Hylton recordings!

A bit too much hall; microphones should have been closer to the band, still it's very well done.

@SatchmoSings Personally, I love that echo effect. It feels as if I am actually in a theater listening to them perform.

It's in the same key as the Hylton recording.

I must admit, this is by far my favourite tune of all time! Music certainly isn't what it used to be!
