  • need to mod Civ V so this is the background music for the industrial era.

  • For the Trottingham empire and its mighty Stormtrotter army!!

  • "I think I may have gone overboard with the brass"...YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH BRASS :D

  • My Little Steampunk : Industry is Magic

  • 0:30 Royal Dashie approves.

  • My favourite age in the history of the humanity, the Industrial revolution, i mean, steam powered cars, then the diesel, the huge and amazing trains that looks like a kind of extraterrestrials machines, huge gears in the fabrics, the honorable workmen; the poor people who had to work so hard to feed their family, i mean, these people had honor at working, the gentlemen with their pipes and top hats... and monocles...

    ┌─┐

    ┴─┴

    ಠ_ರೃ

    and the mostachos!

    Oh of course, the ladies.

  • Harpsichord! HARPSICHORD!

I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THAT HARPSICHORD!!!

  • Since you know a crudton about music... I am stuck on the most important bit. Coming up with a melody. I'm aiming for something close to this, or a trance song, but at the moment, I seem in a rut.

  • @Tawverni Ha, well I took the melody from At The Gala, so this is probably a bad example...=P

But I suggest looking at what notes and chords you use already! So, if you have a pad or something on C...choose some notes that relate to C, for example, C D F G F A E C, then put them in a rhythm and if you like it, go from there, if not, try again!

  • Even though I loved the track I was laughing the whole way through!

  • Damnit, I'm getting Rusty Bucket Bay flashbacks. :(

  • Your music videos make me wish a Steampunk era exists some day. Not just steam! Gears too!

  • yay for steampunk :D

  • Love the classical industrial theme and feel. Makes me think of the 1920's (roaring 20's), lots of stuff getting done. Such a theme could be tied into the whole Celestia tyranny vs Luna republic stuff quite well... *hint*

Maybe I'll write a little something related to above said stuff.. sometime.

  • steampunk ponies?

    im ok with this

  • I can't wait to see what you do with the Flim-Flam brothers!

  • I like to listen to this and practice my ruthless Victorian industrialist laugh

  • Wow,,, Your music is magnificent. The way you arrange it is harsh and exquisite at the same time and, by Celestia's beard, I love it! Also, I can't thank you enough for introducing me to the wonderful world of steampunk - you also gave me an idea for a chapter of one of my stories. Thank you very, very much!

  • We need more Steampunk music. NOW!

  • @DrDissonance1 So what you're saying is that this is a song to play while you steamroll your foes?

  • Even as Rainbow Dash's part came up, I still reconizd it, all mechanicalized. Mainly because Rainbow Dash is best pony...

  • This is really cool.

  • The horns are a bit much, but still an amazing piece!

  • I really like the horn samples you have <3 I personally would have increased the size of the reverb and the predelay, Iove to have them sounding big and distant.

May I ask how you came to use this music as a thematic representation of a steampunk oil refinery? I hope you don;t mind if I come out with something that might sound a tad similar to this in terms of orchestration. You see I base a lot of my orchestral tunes off of this game called MediEvil. The composers arranged like this a lot.

  • @psychgoth Hmmm, why did I do this? Well, it began with my "Art of the Industry" piece and it kind of went from there with the other pony songs! And if people write more stuff like this, that is only a good thing!

  • wish you'd do it with the singing

  • Hrm, nice At the Gala remix!

  • Made me think I was playing Final Fantasy 8. Excellent work, man!

  • If it ain't Steampunk I won't like it. If Steampunk ain't possible... USE MORE BRASS!

  • Argh, are the second and third pictures moving??

    Or is it just me?

  • Another steam-powered fantastique by Dr. Dissonance, i love it!

  • Sorry for the double post, but the Rainbow Dash part is my favorite in here and the original, and they're in completely different styles too, well done sir, well done indeed.

  • The sheer idea of a steampunk style music fascinates me, and pulling it off as well as you did makes me wonder why more people don't do it.

  • `Brass is the most under-appreciated instrumental group in modern music.

  • Great adaptation. It kinda got me thinking of the potential differences in tone between our Equestria and Steampunk Equestria. While "At the Gala" was a song of unbridled and carefree optimism, "At the Refinery" seems a bit more...harsh, more oppressive. It implies a world were the Apple Baroness is plotting a new scheme, the Fashionista is navigating a cutthroat court, the Pink Professor continues her methodical madness, and the machine never, NEVER stops running.

  • Man, I honestly need to find these soundfonts, but I could easily hear some of the tunes from "The great pony everypony should know"

    :D

  • nice artwork but you should have used this as theme to this watch?v=R5kr2EN-Q1w

  • You're the one who made the music I listen to while reading Fallout: Equestria. Why hadn't I subscribed yet?

  • Few fanworks have stimulated my imagination as much as this. Absolutely incredible.

  • Congrat for this song!

  • omg there need to be a steampunk episode of mlp fim

  • DAT BRASS

  • This is great, what program did you make all this with?

  • @BigBenjaa Sibelius to write the score, then converted it to MIDI and sent it to Cubase where I used that and a number of EastWest vsts to make it sound nice!

  • @DrDissonance1

Thats why it sounded so nice, thanks.

  • Massive Gnome vibe here!

  • A job well done my friend.

  • This somehow made me happy...

  • I know people overuse the whole "Like, Favorite, Download, hit Play" thing like crazy on youtube, but this is the one song I can honestly say I did that for :D

(And yes, I have been waiting with bated breath since the midi xP )

  • Though you've been quite consistently releasing new pieces, the wait for each one still seems long. This is a great reward for my patience though!

PS: Dungeons to Defend?! Wilt thou deign to defend yon dungeons with a lowly commoner such as myself? What platform dost thou perchance defend said dungeons on?

  • @Qmeister044 I'm happy to play with anyone who adds me on Steam! (I play on PC)

  • Comment removed

  • Also I love this...its well organized with the choatic brass and string...and....um..wood?

  • If there was a FiM world in Kingdom Hearts...

  • @KingScar06 Yanno.. I had the exact same thought just now.. lol.

  • ....Mein freund, you are just to good at this steampunk art style of music, please keep up the amazing work, I especially love the part at 0:54 , just a delicious melody of... well it sounds like an orgy of brass instruments throughout this entire piece, bravo.

  • DAT BRASS

  • Another great song Dr. D! Since all of your steam punk songs are awsome, most everyone likes them, and you do fan fic songs, may I recomend you to do an "End of Ponies" theme? I think that would sound great and the fic is great to boot.

  • @NovaMarcellus I do love a post apocalyptic story, but I have yet to read that...

I'm also not doing requests at the moment, due to an influx of them recently and I'm away from the house for a week, so no way to write music! Bummer!

  • @DrDissonance1 Definetly worth the read! Only one that I have seen that focuses on Scootaloo in that environment. Also love the steampunk feel.

  • @DrDissonance1 "No way to write music" Pencil. Paper. Now.

  • So. Much. Brass.

  • I love your brass though. I mean, you do it much better than your strings. Not that you do it bad, it's just much, much better (*cough* WWU *cough*)

  • This was very fun to listen to, because it felt so heavy. I was slightly disappointed with RD's solo part though, I was expecting some pure epicness there.

  • Hey, I'm ColorSymphony. Just wanted to say, this song is just too amazing.

  • @WuzitWorthit Oh hey! Thanks for contributing such amazing artwork to the community!

  • You finally remix this song! I've been waiting for you to remix this for a long time!! :D :D Oooh Brass, I love brass. But then again I am a low brass player xD

  • Every time I listen to your steampunk orchestral I feel like playing Fable III. So good, and there's no much thing as too much brass! Go Trumpets go!

  • I liked it, though it came across as a little... cluttered, compared to your previous works in this style. Fun to listen to, though!

  • @Sonar009 Good ear! You're right, this piece requires a lot more instruments and the harmonies are a lot denser compared to the previous Steampunk pieces!

  • @Sonar009

0:20 fluttershy 0:40 Chorus 0:50 AppleJack (sining is 0:56 ?) 1:10 Chorus 1:19 Rarity (that Pianer give me chills ...idk why) 1:35 Chorus 1:46 Rainbow Dash (singing 1:52 ?) 2:10 Chorus 2:18 Pinkie pie (LOL XYLOPHONE) 2:35 Chorus..er i think 2:47 Twilight Sparkle.

    ......Youtube better not jumble this....

  • @FirstPistolSammy He meant cluttered as in there were more instruments and the harmonies were denser compared to my previous renditions. Must have taken a while getting down each section though! Just for correction, Rarity part is a Harpsichord and Pinkie Pie's part is a Marimba!

  • @DrDissonance1

honestly i do not know my instruments....i shamefully generalize them..i am sorry :(

lol I had all the number times in each line but when i press post it doesn't show that..

  • Oh man, it's like playing Warcraft 2 again.

  • I for one welcome out new Steampunk pony overlords

  • @Sethisto Note to everyone: Sethisto welcomes them, so that means EVERYONE welcomes them! Now go, those dresses don't sew themselves! (also, thanks for all you've done Seth!)

  • @DrDissonance1 HyrAyl has created a new DeviantArt account for pony art, steampoweredstallion

  • Add some guitar and it would sound like a Ska band performing in a Metal Factory...

  • More Steampunk MLP to me added to my MP3 player.

  • Only recently subscribed. Just listened to this. I think I chose wisely.

  • So cool! I love your take on it and the instrumentation.

  • wow I really like the brass!

  • I really like this song. I have a question though, some parts of this sounds awfully like Those Magnificent Men and their Flying Machines. Were you partially inspired by that song?

  • @Zminator1986 I have not seen that movie (or heard of it, I'm so cultured!), so no is the answer to that! =P

  • aw yeah steam punk+ ponies

  • I got serious chills when that harpsichord came in. Holy shit this is my favorite of your works so far.

  • Psh there is no such thing as too much brass!

  • You are a orchestral god.

    Nothing else to add.

  • Dissonance, I just subscribed to you ever so recently but I'm really glad I did, your constant output of quality Pony music in Steampunk, Fallout, or whatever style is fantastic. Not sure how you do it but you do a great job. I'm surprised you're not more popular.

  • I got scared when you said '6 horns'

But then I remembered computers don't miss partials.

  • Maaaaan! Hearing your fabuloso music makes me search for a Steampunk/Industry Percussion SoundFont every time, every time it comes up with zilch. And the process repeats. xD

Ah well, I'll have to keep trying, I suppose.

  • @Naeneko77Inikina Look up "Anvils" considering that's where the clanging comes from!

  • @DrDissonance1 Funny how that brings up nothing about an actual soundfont, but Anvil Studio, which is a program.

......bah. What exactly do you use, again? Is it a VSTi?

  • @Naeneko77Inikina I use the (expensive) EastWest vsts, specifically the Anvils and Steel Sheets from the Symphonic Orchestra...fun fact, it's 50% off for the next few days, if you're considering throwing money into music!

  • @DrDissonance1 Hm, it's food (or music) for thought. Thanks for the help, Diss! Ciao!

  • Awesome tune :D

  • This is the best sex my ears have ever had! Seriously, though, you pulled this off really well - it sounds absolutely awesome =D

  • I love how you softened out Rainbow dash's part it was excellent :D

  • Just incredible! Very nice work!

  • FINALY! YAY!!!!!

  • Aah:) All hail the Universe of Steampunk. I agree it's a lot off brass, but it's suitable. And frankly, that's not the first thing that comes to mind when listening to this. It's a clicking noise, partly present in the music, partly clicking away in my imagination. The greatest reason that I enjoy your music so is because it's so graphic. It takes me places, and I love it:)

  • @Resurrectedfantasy For one horrible second there, I thought you meant clicking in the piece and I had somehow managed to clip it somewhere...thank goodness I didn't!

  • Well done, as usual. I find it interesting that, while Rainbow Dash's verse is probably the most energetic in the original, here it's really underplayed. And yet the buildup to the verse is still there. Nice way to toy with our expectations there.

  • Well, I do believe that the floor needs washing from a collective orgasm right now.

  • All your steampunk music makes me want to abandon my space pony game in favor of a steampunk pony game just so I can use some of this amazing stuff. Just a little.

  • I USE EVERYTHING YOU DO.

AND MY WORK STILL CANNOT SUMMATE TO THIS GLORY.

  • @DJXTrav LIES YOU DO GREAT STUFF!!!

  • now we wait for someone to add the voices XD

  • really nice! :) i love it

  • needs more brass

  • @SenatorMyth I knew it! Waaaaa *eats ice cream in the corner*

  • this reminded me of Arcanum....

so.. what was being made at that refinery/industry? with that song and images.. I would say... steam-powered-metal-mecha-wings

    for the common pony

  • Do want.

  • love it

  • new upload! yay~!

  • I love your music so much <3 I was hoping to ask you permission to use them in a Machinima style movie I will be making. May I please? You will, of cores be properly credited.

  • @DarkDemonWolf76 Of course! As long as you credit, which you said you will, so all good!!!

  • @DrDissonance1 oh man THANK you :D your fall out style music as well as a majority of the steampunk-esk music will greatly aid the feeling of the story. *bows* thank you

  • Steampunk :D
