This is out of context. The question was about worshipping a deity. Buddhists do not worship a deity, a supreme deity. The Dalai Lama is correct here to say that deity worship is wrong. This is all he said folks, so get a grip. Is this a commie smear campaign? probably.

When the Dalai Lama says his gurus are wrong, does it mean he stops being a lineage lama? What are the repercussions of saying your gurus are wrong according to the 50 verses of Guru Devotion?
dorjeshugden (dot) com website is really a great resource. I like very much the section on the great masters - with bios on several of them. When we read more, we understand more. Then there will be more harmony and peace. may Dorje Shugden stablise people's minds - and bring everyone everywhere peace and happiness.
This whole Dorje Shugden issue sends a message to practitioners and aspirants that your guru can be wrong, so whatever they teach you today, tomorrow it can be wrong and you should abandon it, so the whole basis of learning Dharma crumbled, because the guru is not perfect. So, no need to follow 50 stanzas of Guru Devotion? Take the guru's advice with a pinch of salt? What Dharma is there to learn then? Think!!!!

For a high being with soo much compassion to say this about his gurus then the motivation must reflect the gravity of such outspokeness.
This is a pillar in buddhism stemming back to shakyamuni and HH can openly say his Gurus are wrong, most assured he would have meditated long and hard whether it will be of benefit or not.
This will have benefit, though people may not see it now.
