  • how do i apply?

  • Nice vid, thanks.

  • how long did yours take to mail?

  • Not sure about his but my appication was approved on June 10th. the same day I applied for it. Then they send it out first class on June 16th. I got mine June 19th 2009.

Buy Magnavox brand at Walmart so you can use the coupon there and you only pay around 9 to 10.00 for it.

  • hahahahahaha you is not in feb i still dont buy my convert box yeah

  • lol lol lol, you comment make smile put on my face. june yes, feb no. you buy NOW! time run out before dtv box in your hands not there. visit website so you buy many boxes.

  • its june now not feb

  • I wish someone would go into alot more detail on ATSC and 8SVB. I am dissappointed we didn't use ESVB.

  • I have a question:

Why can't people show a little personal responsbility and go buy one theirself? I thought Obama wants us to be responsible? And you apply for one that you don't even need? Just to give them to your family? You're part of the problem of a nation of beggars that turns to government for a minor inconvienence.

People saw this coming since last year and cannot save up $50, pathetic.

  • you raise a very good point - i never thought about it from that angle. i really wasn't trying to get something for nothing. in fact i probably saved the gov some coins as there was only one application to process and seeing how my folks & brother each had only one tv - nothing was wasted and the objective of the program was met. thanks for mentioning this though, you got me to think about gov handouts differently.

  • Thanks for the Info

  • what if the box cost like 20 dollars and i use this card, is it free?

  • well there at 49.54 at walmart, so your paying 9.54 and some change, can't beat that! Thanks for the video, I've been looking for the website for my grandmother for a min. now. I takes a while for them to mail it off. I order it today and its going there mailing it out on 1/16/09. can you say too long.

  • i got my coupons today

  • There are many different converter boxes out there. I purchased one of these (the DTV model) with the Federal Government Coupon and thanks to God I now get 30+ channels crisp and clear compared to maybe 4 analog channels before. I am going to cancel my cable subscription and use this money for survivalism and weapons.

Thank God for DTV, it just may save my life someday with the money I save from cable!!

  • LMAO @survivalism and weapons.

  • THANKS FOR THE VIDEO AND THE INFO

  • aint sure what relevance your comment has to this video, but maybe someday (if yer lucky), you'll have the pleasure of some 28 yo anime punk calling you an old man... cheers!!

  • Amen. It's a blessing to make it past 40.

  • (PART III) As of this time there is no set date as to the end of the program other than march of next year. Boxes in some areas are hard to find true. please refer to pg2 for online comp and phone #s to call to apply if your time is running short. Once expired you will not be able to reapply and dont listen to stores there is no extentions at this time. Also pay atten to *boxes the are for both analog and digital pass throughs if you are having issues.

  • (PART II) This will not only give you more access to more channels depending on your TV station but it will also give you a better pic quality. I did MAJOR research on this project going back 2 years worth of data. It is cheaper to convert airwaves to digital and adding a bonus to the populous than to try to convert the emergancy response local and federal teams to convert. Of the two evils this is cheaper by a long shot. and the coupons are 90 days from date mailed w/an expiration on it

  • The purpose in doing this is due to 911 and several other natural disasters. There was a problem in emergancy communications due to the amount of over 40million tvs using the airwaves. This program also allowed for instead of one program to be brodcasted by free tv stations it allows for 4 simultaneous different programs to be broadcasted at the same time. i.e. 12 12.1 12.2 12.3 etc. Is this a bad thing NO. (PART I)

  • I just hooked up my girl friends RCA DTA800B1 converter box she bought for $49.87 - $40.00 = $9.87 + Tax.She was running just off at set rabbit ears and the picture was really bad. After the install it was like WoooooooooW. It also helped that her set is about 3 years old has all other plug ins for the Audio and Video cables. Very Impressed for sure.

  • I am looking at the DTV2009 web sight and first off you have 90 days to use the card from the time it been mailed. and second is this appears to be the last week to apply ( 7-05-08 to 7-11-2008 ) the sight is showing the last ship date as of 8-01-2008.

  • Sir, what is that sticker thing on bottom right side of the card??

  • yea same here with analog i got about 15 stations using an amplified antenna now with digital i only get NBC 7.1. When its raining i dont get anything. I guess i'll have to wait until i move to a 3rd floor apartment. Radioshack told me the higher up you are the better it will work cause you wont have buildings blocking the signals

  • I got the Qpons, and 2 boxs, and can't get any channels at all! At least I used to get 'ghost' images, now nada. This is worse than analog.

  • yes, that's one of the caveats of going digital - it's all or nothing. digital signals travel in straight lines and not as far. most rural people are going to have to get a good antenna and a rotor. I live in town and i invested in a rotor - great improvement.

  • i think its for when they send out a nuke

  • Does anyone know about the little tiny camera that is placed inside the Digital TV Converter Box? Please share and spread the info if you have any. Everyone deserves the right to be informed before they buy.

  • This whole "digital" thing is a great big joke. When they get rid of analog, the TV station will cut thier range in half.

If you need a huge antenna and pre-amp to get the signal, then chances are, the analog would be crystal clear to begin with, so what the hell is the point?

And just FYI the DTV signal looks you-tubish with smears and compression artifacts that make the colors look terrible.

    Some more government mandated BS.

  • I ordered 2 coupons on January and I never got them.

  • I sent in for mine February and didn't get then until April. They expired 7/3/08.

  • You said it converts digital signals to analog signals but it's the other way around, it switches analog signals to digital. And second Dvr and Tivo are satellite based modems that have absolutely nothing to do with the upcoming change, it will only affects the TVs that you use antennas for, not satellite or cable.

  • Not True! Check your facts...

older TVs receive analog signals - new broadcasting format is digital. so for your older tv to still be usable, a device would be needed to convert a digital signal back to an older analog signal that your legacy tv could receive and use.

NOW - listen carefully to my video to understand what i said about satellite and cable boxes. THEN, visit the website and review the FAQ's. Pay attention boy!!

  • Wow, that actually makes sense. I wasn'ttrying to be rude by the way i was just trying to clear that up but now that i think about it you are right. Sorry about that man

  • i just got my box 3 weeks ago and it works great picture looks like cable BUT...some days i dont get any channels sometimes i do...with analog it doesnt matter where you are for reception, but with digital you either get a signal or you dont

  • i know - dtv is real susceptible to electrical interference, etc. with analog, you get a shitty pic - with digital, it's all or nothing.

to improve your reception, invest in a rotor and good antenna. that will take care of the problem.

  • Only Full Power TV Stations will be converting to Digital on February of 2009. The 7000 plus Class A, LPTV and Translator station in the US will continue to broadcast in Analog for the foreseeable future. To continue to watch Analog broadcast, one will need a new TV with both ATSC and NTSC receivers or one of the (6) NTIA converter boxes with "pass-through". The non-pass-trough converter boxes BLOCK Analog TV signals or require a messy and user hostile "splitter" Good luck to all. Thank you.

  • That's an important point. The mandate applies only to 1,760 "full-power" U.S. stations, not the 2,900 low-power tv stations and 4,400 signal-relay stations ("translators") that don't have to go digital. Thus 7,300, the majority of stations, will still be analog. There are "analog pass through boxes" but not all converters have that. If you live in a rural area, make sure you get an "analog pass through" converter. And BTW, there is more than 1 company making the converters.

  • GREAT VIDEO. GOOD TOPIC

  • ty - appreciate it a lot!

  • this free up some air space for amateur radio

  • the "official" word is that the majority of the frequencies are going to safety services (fire, police, etc). however, the inside word is that most is going to the communication companies to use for wireless internet, etc. we'll have to just wait and see.

  • There's a similar thing happening in Australia at the moment, but I think our cut off for analogue is still a ways off, and as far as I'm aware, there's no rebate program for set top boxes. I picked one up anyways for about $60 from the supermarket. It's not fantastic, but it does what it's supposed to.

  • yeah - not need to go overboard. thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

  • i think the cutoff date for the tv thing is feb 2008... still a ways away.. but i think its kinda dumb for the people that cant afford the box..

  • It's supposedly, February 17, 2009.

  • That will happen in Portugal in 2010. Always late here, lol! In UK they have for a long time now, 3000 channels, imagine!

  • thanks Felix for your visit. so you're a year behind us in TV. in terms of handsomeness - yer a couple years AHEAD!! woof to you.

  • Woofy hug! ;)

  • its 90 days after its mailed that you have to use it. i got my discount today

  • you're right about the time limit according to the official info. however, i just checked mine and it expires on 5/26/08. i received it in the mail on 3/17/08 so from my perspective i only have 70 days.

  • Your tags read like a haiku:

    "beefy muscle bear [19}.

    Thanks for the important info.

  • lol - i had to look "haiku" up. i didn't know what it meant. guess yer right.. thanks for the visit.

  • ahh there you are! humm those booze bottles are half empty thick fingers well well well

  • lol - i hadn't noticed that when i was making this. thanks for the reminder. i'll have to put that on my shopping list.

  • Well thanks for breaking down the REAL scoop on this government assisted converter box program. I"ve been seeing the commercials for it on a regular basis here in Philly. You do have a great point about those of us with cable and satelite getting one of the converter boxes. When I had Directv in Mississippi, it would go out if you farted too loud...lol.

    Anyway, Thanks Matt!

  • lmao - wow, thems some mighty powerful farts!!!

actually i know what you mean. i had a dish for a while too and a good sneeze would knock mine out. i have to laugh every time i see a dish commercial and they talk about all the time cable is out - talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

anyway, thanks Mike for stopping by - it was great to hear from you again.

  • I've been hearing about this for awhile now

I already have digital cable so I won't have to worry about it

but I know alot of people with either old tv's or non digital cable..so they would need to upgrade

    great vid Matt

and I'm sure alot of people will be interested in this.

  • thanks Gilbert!! good to see you again.

btw, i was on bear411 and saw your profile again and had to laugh when you said you were addicted to youtube... who would have thought?

  • haha...ah yes Bear411....I love that site! haha

now handsome you need to post more pics of yourself on there...don't be shy!! :)
