I was raised in the country listening to these songs.. Hippie Redneck Parents, wide open fields, blue sky horizons, cold beer sips from a foggy bottle, a playground of abandoned cars covered with weeds and tire tubes for trampolines, antiques rusting in the barn... Now I live in the big city, I need to hear songs like this to bring back the Charm. Thanks for posting!
@MegaJaspergirl What in the world took so long....love JP but also like Bryan Adams singing an old Joe Cocker song When the Night Comes....Try it on ...see if it fits ....then kick it like a cricket....girl!!!!
John's genius is the kind that quietly sneaks up behind you inside a supposedly simple little tune and suddenly blows your mind with a great human truth that you never, ever forget! You realize that it has always been right in front of you and yet you never saw it! This is why John makes fans for life!
Tailesill - you got it. Such a wonderful artist to follow and appreciate and enjoy. That must feel good and be really fun when they're songs that mean a lot to both the audience and the fellow musicians who ask/need to sing it with John while they have the chance. He's still under-appreciated for his catalog of songs. Old Johnny boy really makes a difficult thing come out sounding effortless. Not even Bobby D can always say the same. John's are concise. Hard to replace him.
Saw JP in DC on his inaugural tour in 72. Never even heard of him before the concert. Fell in love with him immediately and have been to about 40 of his concerts. He's great.
thanks tuber, you get it, by just throwing this great stanza up, says it all!
we love you John!
I'd go to your concerts but too many drunks sing along and i just want to hear YOU. (i like to get drunk too, but i keep my mouth shut cause i can't carry a tune.)
this is such a fine piece of songwriting. blows me away. "...and you change your mind for something else to do, and your heart gets bored with your mind and it changes you." he's not just talking about chevy's and fords, he's talking about la condition humane, but putting it in the most profoundly simple terms. I love this man for doing what he does so effortlessly, at least that's how it looks. Thanks for posting!

You drive a Chevy Say you drive a Ford
You drive around the town till you just get bored
Then you change your mind For something else to do
And your heart gets bored with your mind and it changes you

The gent on guitar to the right of J.P. is Jason Wilber, a brilliant accompanist, IMHO.
