  • and also do we use the same SMA for all hair procedures and disinfect for all other procedure for a new client set up for nails and facials right?

  • @luvNique4ever The same SMA could be used as long as it is not soiled. I would suggest to change it after the haircut, since some hair will definitely fall on the SMA. In fact, with the new test, you can even have a towel alone, without the SMA. Some teachers suggest to change it all the time: just in case, but, if you forget to change it, and it is still clean, you are perfectly OK. Use a new set up for nails and facials, just in case, although the doll head does not mind at all. Hope it helps.

  • Hi I love your videos very informative ..im going take the california stateboard feb 28 can you tell me if they are looking for the first application only and are they looking for a strand test for the virgin relaxer?and can you do a video on the proper produre for strandtesting and for waxing are they looking for the use of baby powder before waxing?

  • for the new stateboard how would you section a perm still into 9 or what?

    :O

  • @MuriePANIC You don't have to section for 9 anymore. You can section any way you want, as long as the hair is controlled, and the back section, that you have to work on, is sectioned based on the width of the perm rod.

  • @BeautyHealthTravel how would you recommend to section the hair for the perm

  • @MuriePANIC Section any way you want, as long as you have the middle section of the back of the head sectioned from the top to the nape sectioned as wide as the perm rod.

  • you need a towel , a sanitation place , and two towels :P

  • This is a nice good demonstration Thank you

  • wow, that just seems like a lot for a perm.

  • @DesignerzOnly Yes, it was. Now the state board does not ask us to neutralize, so it is a bit easier. But, now, this is the only part of the test that has this many steps for a procedure for hair; that, and the manicure; all others are super easy.

  • @BeautyHealthTravel thats good because I wanna go get my license after Im done with college and it really discouraged me. LOL thanks for the update.

  • @DesignerzOnly You welcome! Don't be discouraged, since it is a lot easier to pass the board exam. This video will help you :

COSMETOLOGY STATE BOARD EXAM PRACTICAL REQUIREMENTS AND KIT DEMO

It explains the order of the procedures. Also, check the state board website, they have more info, and the kit companies will give you free training, if you rent their kit; all the kit companies.

  • @BeautyHealthTravel OMG thaaaaaaaaaaank you, i have to write a 4 page essay on the career you want when you grow up. Im in middle school btw [im fricken 13]. This helps so much. How do they think i can do 4 pages in 2 weeks anyway?!?

  • I PAss stateboard, Thank you so much!!!!

  • @sunnyfernandez GREAT! CONGRATULATIONS on passing state board.

  • she is touching the tip of the bottles on the the hair is that the proper instuction?

  • @kitterkitr No, better not touch the tip of the bottle to the hair, although now they are not strict about it at state board.

  • That mannequin scared the crap out of me. At first I thought it was a real person

  • @scwatcherbald LOL It happens to all students when they first start the beauty school. scwatcherbald wrote " that mannequin scared the crap out of me. At first I thought it was a real person"

  • this is so helpful i have my date the 22 of nov, you should do a demo for the haircut that would help a lot also and maybe acrylics demo lol...this is awesome tho thank you for taking your time to do this.

  • @sunnyfernandez I have a haircut and acrylic demo; just search through my videos, or in the COSMETOLOGY; STATE BOARD DEMOS playlist. The only change for the perm is that now they want the entire middle section of the back permed, not 6 rods; all the instruction is verbal, so, please follow the examiner's instructions. Feel free to ask any questions. Good luck!

  • This is so helpful. Thank you.

  • @jlove230z You welcome; but now the test requires that you rod the whole back section instead of 6 rods.

  • @BeautyHealthTravel is that the only difference for the new test? except now we don't have to wash the hair in the shampoo bowl anymore

  • @itskathleeen Yes, you don't shampoo any more, and the other difference is that you can do 5 sections if you want or nine, but learning the 9 sections is great for real life procedures. Also, you need to do the entire back middle section, instead of the previous 6. The examiner would tell you when to apply the product and she might watch each applicant. All in all, the examiners tells almost everything that is needed to be done, but, you must know the steps, just in case.

  • Thank you so much for your effort in doing all these video. I reside in California and as of Oct 2011, the practical exam had been changed. Could u please update the process according to stateboard new requirements and changes? Thank you very very much in advance.

  • @kr8zkat Yes, I am in process of making more videos for new state board requirements. I already made the COSMETOLOGY; BLOW DRY STYLING DEMO for State Board, and COSMETOLOGY; CURLIN IRON PROCEDURE FOR STATE BOARD videos.

  • i have my test tom. i should call the instrucer over after i test curl ? what do they check for? i live in california the same rules apply ?

  • @Ex0tiCbutk0tic The way they test at state board has been changed; all instructions are verbal, so the instructor will let you know when she will test. It is all new, but they have a webcast at the state board channel telling all about the new test.

  • the doll's head looks so real!

  • Hi you are so great!!! Im going to take my exam in a few days and I'm just wondering if it is necessary to rinse the hair and apply the neutralizer because every state is different and Im in VA.. Thanks for all the help...

  • @prstSTD In California, we rinse the perm solution before applying the neutralizer. If you are in VA, you need to check your state's performance criteria for the right procedure, although, for safety, it is important to rinse the chemical from the hair, to apply the neutralizer; solution is alkaline, neutralizer is acid; one counteracts the other. If left on the hair, the solution would harm the scalp and dry the hair, and the neutralizer would not stabilize the hair very well.

  • @BeautyHealthTravel thanks for your answer, and all your videos are so helpful, and I Know that I have to rinse but What I think is that each state is completely different because here at the beginning you dont wash your hands you need to use the sanitizer hand.. I understand what are you explaining and I'm very grateful... and one more question do you have any video for the chemical relaxer... and thank you so much.. :-)

  • @prstSTD You are right; different states have different requirements. Yes, a lot of subscribers are requesting a chemical relaxer video; I am planning to make a chemical relaxer video in September.

  • my book says to remove the glove on the hand using the faucet? should i remove the glove or should i leave it on?

  • @TheDleiker Gloves protect your hands while rinsing the chemical, so it would be better to keep it on; state board would not remove points for extra protection. You just need to check the water temperature on the skin of your wrist before rinsing the client's hair; simply elevate your glove and check the water temperature. It needs to be warm, but not hot.

  • is this procedure the same for barbers at the state board?.are the perm rods rolled in any paricular direction.ive been told 3 forward and 3 back,is that right?.so,this video is exactly what you do at the sate board.move for move?.im a barber instructor at marinello beauty academy.im new at the job and trying to learn all of this stuff.

  • @fancydelancey1 I am not sure about the barber exam requirements; please check the performance manuel for barbers or ask your instructor. This is good for cosmetologists.

  • Thank you for the advice on the perm rods tension. I will try that. Do you have a video on a 90 degree uniformed layer haircut?

  • I just failed the Perm Rod section on LA- State Board, due to: no tension ( they are very loose I have no idea how to make them tighter), placement of rubber bands (mine were all on top and not twisted, so I'm not sure why) and they said rods were not on base (rolled them at a 45 degree angle, probably did not look like they were on base because they were so loose). Help! Any suggestions??

  • @klisovski I am sorry to hear that you failed your test due to no tension of the rods. To achieve tension (if the rods are too loose) is to move the robber bank forward a little, but make sure it s still on a straight line on the rod.

  • This video is great, I am also feeling so confident now ….Thanks Thanks Thanks

    You are great person

  • This video is great, I am also feeling so confident now ….Thanks Thanks Thanks

    You are great person

  • @leenart09 Thank you! I appreciate your comment.

  • Hi I love your videos I'm feeling so confident about taking my test on tuesday although I've been out of school for 3 years but never took my test... I was just wondering If you have a video for chemical relaxer, soft perm, facial for oily skin, wax/tweeze,and make up??? Please send me the links if you do. And once again thanks for taking the time to make videos to help cosmetology students!!!!!!

  • @Maritz86 Sorry, I don't have relaxer, wax/tweeze and makeup, yet, but, they are relatively easy procedures for state board. The facial with oily skin is done in this manner: cleanse, eye pads, blue light, massage, toner. I hope this helps; meanwhile I will try to add those videos, but, it is summer vacation, and I need time to record, edit, publish and post. Thanks for your kind commends!

  • rosyleon89........ I was thinking the same thing! You do place the cotton on after the rods are placed

  • @explicittrell and rosylean89 are correct. The cotton should be placed after the rods are wrapped. I also teach that way; it could have been a mistake with the thumbnails during the editing process of the video, but, by the adsense contract, I cannot make changes to the video. Either way, as long as you use the protection on the client any time before the lotion is applied, you will still gain your points for each step. Thanks for mentioning it, though.

  • wrong u put the cotton after you put the 6 rods!

  • where u from? are u white black latin? ur english sounds really cute... i love the video...

  • Thank you @mrchrmedone for the complement. To answer you question: I am not black nor latin. My English is a combination of languages that I have learned as a child, and it has evolved to the current accent.

  • should the hair already be wet enough, so you dont have to spay water on the papers?

  • @kennithherrick For State Board, it is Ok to spray with water, since at state board of California we do not shampoo the hair first and the hair might be dry, but for real perm we always start with clean, shampooed hair. There are no restrictions wether to spray or not to spray. It is your teacher's preference. If in doubt, check your state's performance criteria to find out if spraying is restricted.

  • you are the best..

  • @3822721 Thank you! I appreciate that.
