@xeinezes The Ai for them is to cast haste first with no other skills on them. Go into ablities and select what skills or skill you want then press triangle to use it as soon as your character has enough atb.
you can also inflict slow first thing on long gui itself in the beginning to slow down the time between the stomps. and instead of infiltration espionage might be a good idea to keep buffs up. all the same though.

Would it be better to use Sazh instead of Lightning? Light likes to melee a lot and when you're close to the leg when it stomps you take an extra hit. Sazh always hits from a range, but he's also the only one who doesn't have reprieve (retain 1 hp when a killing blow lands). Guess I should try it out.

@hielke12000 if you're careless you'll still die, be sure to have tortoise (SEN/SEN/SEN) and switch to it right before an attack hits to greatly reduce the damage. Everyone but Sazh has Reprieve which spares you 1 HP if you're hp is above critical and you took an atk that would have kill you. so it's a good insurance for the roar/ultima combo and you get a trophy just by killing it
@cloudtheavenger Thanks i killed him yesterday, but i died once when his legs came back i wasnt fast enough to switch to SEN/SEN/SEN and at that moment he used Roar + ultima :/ but i got him now. sadly still no dorps i killed like 20 adamantoise/adamantortoise/long gui and got only 2 platinum ignot.
@cloudtheavenger the game AI gives priority to rare drop than normal drop, if you get 5-star the normal drop chance falls, and the rare drop is multiplied by 5, if you use conossoir catalog, it rises the rare drop chance(5% X 5 stars = 25% + 50% of the catalog =37,5% rare drop) and the normal drop falls from 25% to 18 % if you uses the catalog or 5 star, if you get 4 star and use the catalog for normal drop it rises to 37,5% and if you use both catalogs, rare 28% normal 55%(5 stars).
@jrconjux even at 28% rare, 55% normal, the rare drop still get in the way, the best way to obtain the normal drop is to gain 2 or less stars, this way the rare drop falls to 0%, and the normal drop gains priority, however one of the hardest things in this game is to obtain 0 stars against these oretoises, because you are either too weak and relies on Death, or too strong and finishes the battle too fast, in either case you end up with 5-stars, take too long and you die with a bay combo.
@jrconjux its because the formula of normal drop is (100% - rare drop) X 25%, so less stars more normal drop, the best way to get less stars, is by rising the target time, but to rise the target time you need maxed characters and highest level for weapons, and for ascessory like kaiser knuckles and to obtain this you need money, in another worlds platinum ingot.
But even like this the target time is still high, and a bay combo.
if wanna the trophy, there's other way to obtain.
@jrconjux it depends if its on adamantoises or adamantortoises, because rare drop is only 1% 5 stars with both catalogs is 36% 3-4 stars about 43% 0-2, about 50% or a bit more, but in any case the chances are still small, if you wants the trophy the only itens you need to buy are 5 adamantites, and 5 darkmatter, gains about 2,5 million gil and sell all of your equipaments, except the ones you need to upgrade buy these itens, upgrade, then go talk to bhakti.

@jrconjux well first of all hes not a boss. Yes he is the most dangerous creature in the game, but when your chanters are maxed with 3 tier weapons he isn't all that tough.
sen/sen/sen should be in the middle of the paradigm deck rather then being tucked away in a corner. basicaly the way it is now it can be more dangerous when using sab/sab/sab or rav/rav/rav.
it's easy to prevent from fainting after using roar that could daze you... just buy foul liquid... even though you are dazed you could still use items... and during doing such act, you should also switch paradigms to tortoise to lessen the damage of either ultima or stomp.. either way, after the attack all of your members are "undazed",. and switch to medic as soon as possible. XD
This is why I'm glad that I havn't done the last missions yet. Farming traps and Ingots is such a walk in the park when you dont need to face the upgraded versions of them. When I have the money I need for all the upgrades and the "every item" achievement, I'm gonna finish the mission for that last Long gui achievement :D Great tactic though bro!
@Cetrus Yeah, I hear you. Sometimes I wish I had held off a bit on the missions. Still, having Shaolong Gui present can be a good thing - Dark Matter is expensive as F@#$. And if I need Trapezohedrons, well I got more than I can currently use from the Adamantoise in Eden, despite the fact that it was Platinum Ingots I was chiefly after (you'd think they'd drop at a more proportionate ratio). Trapezohedrons are nice drops, but are limited in usefulness.
i notice that you switch to tortoise just as he stomps but then straight away switch back to tri-disaster! whats the point?? you dont actually use any guard at all
also, i hate how when he uses roar, you have barely any time to react, he really loves to do it when i just changed the paradigm, and he almost always follows it up with ultima, or stands still for literally 20 seconds while the entire party is paralyzed before finally stomping. also, i once broke both it's legs and it used roar right before getting knocked down, paralyzing my entire party. i had to use dispelga and lose all my buffs in the process.
I have a question. Whats the point of switching to the paradigm Tortoise when you have barely enough time to use Steelguard, Vendetta, Mediguard, etc, to block against Ultima, Roar, and Stomp? I also see ppl doing this when they was fighting Vercingetorix when hes going to use Wicked Whirlwind, or whatever they are called. Just sayin and asking, dont take this the wrong way.
Yet lol but im jus saying what is the point if hes gettin ready to Stomp/Ultima your ass and by the time you get to Tortoise he already use it and you didnt use an ability at all. But since you said having all SEN as Tortoise, it will raise your def. didnt know that. thanks.
@FatalError0000 i can further answer your question. most sens have an ability that enables them to retain 1hp from an attack that would originally kill them. ultima when not using an all sen paradigm will instantly kill anybody that's not a sen. i had an all sen role go from full health to 1 hp from 1 ultima. as long as your health is green, and you switch to all sens, you'll still have at least 1hp left. the rest send your health into the red if not in an all sen role.

I never got the chance to fight Long Gui yet but i did fight Vercingetorix and when he used Wicked Whirlwind and i didnt go to tortoise, my health was like SUPER low. @Nyxlave Nevermind. I just found out that there's a Synthesis ability that allows you to absorb 1% of the damage you deal: Vampire Strike. Just equip any combination of four Cherub's Crowns or Seraph's Crowns.
Of course, that means no Gengi Glove, so it still limits you to healing yourself for a maximum of 1,000 per hit, and that's only if you hit for 99,999.
@abo3lianTV Because monsters can only drop one item, with the exception of shrouds (survivalist catalogs). The game first calculates getting a rare item. If yes, it nulls the check for a normal item, if no, it'll calculate for the normal item. The shroud check, though, isn't nulled by item checks.
@orochi222 *facepalm* the same item's don't stack, connoiseur and collector catalog are different items, yes one is just the upgraded form, but they are still different items. so hence that is false.
Although there are many detailed drop logs saying its better to just equip the collectors catalog and nothing else.
You should manually cast Bravery/Faith buffs on everyone when in the Rapid Growth paradigm, because the AI automatically does defensive buffs (Protect, Shell, etc.).
Game is v.sad, i have connoisseur catalog and still got nothing, trying for hours and hours and for traphzedron i tried like more then 20-30 hours and got 1 only. seriously? this is final fantasy? i so much miss the FFXII even the farming methods suck in this FFXIII, even after maxing out my crystarium i feel so weak.. no traphzedron means no ultimate weapons means v.rare plat ingots, and pls don't tell me the pesky methods such as shrouds,summon n death.. this ff sucks in sidequest.

@zaidkyo I did it with only three roles maxed out. Everyone had HP under 20k. The trick is Poison, which can take off half of its health in maybe three minutes.
I would assume it's because of Vanille's excellent saboteur abilities, primarily for her access to Poison. Despite the magic stats, her Ravager and Medic are not that much worse than Hope's. Lightning and Fang are more useful as synergists than Hope on this fight because like Hope, Lightning has access elemental offensive buffs and Fang has access to Faithra and Bravera.
Unlike with the Adamantoise/tortoise, you can slow the Long Gui while it's still standing. Makes these battles SUPER easy. I actually have a harder time with the Shaolong Guis, since they are far less predictable and spam Bay all the time.
@HeronPrince223 that depends on the equipment. and besides hopes a better medic and synergist, and vanille is the better ravager and sabotuer. so vanille would be best for quickly taking down a difficult enemy like a long gui.
If your still farming for Plat Ignots, activating the Long Gui and Shaolong Gui wont really matter since the Adamantoise in Eden will still be there (IMO best place). Since you can just kill, save, quit, kill etc.
Really nice! You just give me the key to improve my strategy (that is pretty much like this one): Using Com-Med-Med instead of Med-Med-Med! This way the battle should be faster. Thank you, and congrats!
Ah, one more thing, did you try to start the battle with the paradigm "Rapid Growth" and then change it immediately in "Tortoise"? It give you the chance to set haste to everyone right away!

I noticed when I took my party into Defender Optimas against Long Gui's Ultima ability (green light shit), everyone got killed except Fang. Her HP was left at 1.. Good thing I stocked on Phoenix Downs.

how did highwind kill the leg so fast? my supermoves do hardly any damage at all, i have maxed out all main roles and highwind and army of one do such pathetic damage that im better off with normal attacking
The Commander's special attack is used for damaging. Which means the attack will deal the most when the enemy's chain % is at 999,9 % (you will deal 10 times the damage. but has the con that is will reset the chain. so use it when you know you'll be able to finish the target off
the ravager's special attack is used for building up the chain guage quickly to 999,9 % (10 x dmg). these skills does multiple hits. I believe Sazh does the most ammounts of hits (15)
@stefsve Oh, by the way: Lightnings Axis Blade Omega Weapon is super sick for the usage of Special attack, since each hit slightly restores ATB. I haven't tried it myself yet. but I believe half your ATB should be restored by the end of the special attack. Good weapon for spamming Army of One
@stefsve Not too good of an idea. The final form of the Axis Blade (Omega Weapon LV Star) only gives 315 more for strength and magic, which is extremely weak. I would recommend the Gladius, or probably even better, the Lionheart.

sen/sen/sen should be in the middle of the paradigm deck rather then being tucked away in a corner. basicaly the way it is now it can be more dangerous when using sab/sab/sab or rav/rav/rav.

it's easy to prevent from fainting after using roar that could daze you... just buy foul liquid... even though you are dazed you could still use items... and during doing such act, you should also switch paradigms to tortoise to lessen the damage of either ultima or stomp.. either way, after the attack all of your members are "undazed",. and switch to medic as soon as possible. XD

This is why I'm glad that I havn't done the last missions yet. Farming traps and Ingots is such a walk in the park when you dont need to face the upgraded versions of them. When I have the money I need for all the upgrades and the "every item" achievement, I'm gonna finish the mission for that last Long gui achievement :D Great tactic though bro!

@Cetrus Yeah, I hear you. Sometimes I wish I had held off a bit on the missions. Still, having Shaolong Gui present can be a good thing - Dark Matter is expensive as F@#$. And if I need Trapezohedrons, well I got more than I can currently use from the Adamantoise in Eden, despite the fact that it was Platinum Ingots I was chiefly after (you'd think they'd drop at a more proportionate ratio). Trapezohedrons are nice drops, but are limited in usefulness.

also, i hate how when he uses roar, you have barely any time to react, he really loves to do it when i just changed the paradigm, and he almost always follows it up with ultima, or stands still for literally 20 seconds while the entire party is paralyzed before finally stomping. also, i once broke both it's legs and it used roar right before getting knocked down, paralyzing my entire party. i had to use dispelga and lose all my buffs in the process.

I have a question. Whats the point of switching to the paradigm Tortoise when you have barely enough time to use Steelguard, Vendetta, Mediguard, etc, to block against Ultima, Roar, and Stomp? I also see ppl doing this when they was fighting Vercingetorix when hes going to use Wicked Whirlwind, or whatever they are called. Just sayin and asking, dont take this the wrong way.

@FatalError0000 i can further answer your question. most sens have an ability that enables them to retain 1hp from an attack that would originally kill them. ultima when not using an all sen paradigm will instantly kill anybody that's not a sen. i had an all sen role go from full health to 1 hp from 1 ultima. as long as your health is green, and you switch to all sens, you'll still have at least 1hp left. the rest send your health into the red if not in an all sen role.

I never got the chance to fight Long Gui yet but i did fight Vercingetorix and when he used Wicked Whirlwind and i didnt go to tortoise, my health was like SUPER low. But when i used tortosie for the first time, i was surprised and the other ppl who was telling me that can raise your defense is right.

@Nyxlave Nevermind. I just found out that there's a Synthesis ability that allows you to absorb 1% of the damage you deal: Vampire Strike. Just equip any combination of four Cherub's Crowns or Seraph's Crowns.
Of course, that means no Gengi Glove, so it still limits you to healing yourself for a maximum of 1,000 per hit, and that's only if you hit for 99,999.

@abo3lianTV Because monsters can only drop one item, with the exception of shrouds (survivalist catalogs). The game first calculates getting a rare item. If yes, it nulls the check for a normal item, if no, it'll calculate for the normal item. The shroud check, though, isn't nulled by item checks.

Although there are many detailed drop logs saying its better to just equip the collectors catalog and nothing else.

You should manually cast Bravery/Faith buffs on everyone when in the Rapid Growth paradigm, because the AI automatically does defensive buffs (Protect, Shell, etc.).

Game is v.sad, i have connoisseur catalog and still got nothing, trying for hours and hours and for traphzedron i tried like more then 20-30 hours and got 1 only. seriously? this is final fantasy? i so much miss the FFXII even the farming methods suck in this FFXIII, even after maxing out my crystarium i feel so weak.. no traphzedron means no ultimate weapons means v.rare plat ingots, and pls don't tell me the pesky methods such as shrouds,summon n death.. this ff sucks in sidequest.

@zaidkyo I did it with only three roles maxed out. Everyone had HP under 20k. The trick is Poison, which can take off half of its health in maybe three minutes.

I would assume it's because of Vanille's excellent saboteur abilities, primarily for her access to Poison. Despite the magic stats, her Ravager and Medic are not that much worse than Hope's. Lightning and Fang are more useful as synergists than Hope on this fight because like Hope, Lightning has access elemental offensive buffs and Fang has access to Faithra and Bravera.

Unlike with the Adamantoise/tortoise, you can slow the Long Gui while it's still standing. Makes these battles SUPER easy. I actually have a harder time with the Shaolong Guis, since they are far less predictable and spam Bay all the time.

@HeronPrince223 that depends on the equipment. and besides hopes a better medic and synergist, and vanille is the better ravager and sabotuer. so vanille would be best for quickly taking down a difficult enemy like a long gui.

If your still farming for Plat Ignots, activating the Long Gui and Shaolong Gui wont really matter since the Adamantoise in Eden will still be there (IMO best place). Since you can just kill, save, quit, kill etc.

I noticed when I took my party into Defender Optimas against Long Gui's Ultima ability (green light shit), everyone got killed except Fang. Her HP was left at 1.. Good thing I stocked on Phoenix Downs.

how did highwind kill the leg so fast? my supermoves do hardly any damage at all, i have maxed out all main roles and highwind and army of one do such pathetic damage that im better off with normal attacking

The Commander's special attack is used for damaging. Which means the attack will deal the most when the enemy's chain % is at 999,9 % (you will deal 10 times the damage. but has the con that is will reset the chain. so use it when you know you'll be able to finish the target off
the ravager's special attack is used for building up the chain guage quickly to 999,9 % (10 x dmg). these skills does multiple hits. I believe Sazh does the most ammounts of hits (15)

@stefsve Oh, by the way: Lightnings Axis Blade Omega Weapon is super sick for the usage of Special attack, since each hit slightly restores ATB. I haven't tried it myself yet. but I believe half your ATB should be restored by the end of the special attack. Good weapon for spamming Army of One

@stefsve Not too good of an idea. The final form of the Axis Blade (Omega Weapon LV Star) only gives 315 more for strength and magic, which is extremely weak. I would recommend the Gladius, or probably even better, the Lionheart.
