I really like Lou Reed's work, but this doesn't work for me. I much prefer Cohen's version on "Live Songs" with double-tracked poetry at each end

Julie was the one singing Joan with Leonard on "Cohen Live", a later live version that came out in 1994.

Well, Cohen always seems to get great female singers to work with him. Jennifer Warnes, Sharon Robinson and Anjani Thomas are all excellent, as is Julie.
