  • after hearing the first avatar animals i was like wtf.. why does that so familiar

  • Thanator roars were basically just shorter version of the T. rex roar from JP

  • Too much of a coincidence

  • I noticed that the first time i watched avatar. but what ever all that means is that jurassic park was good enough to steal from lol

  • Avatar jealous because jurassic park has better sounds

  • yep

    i heard

and th T-Rex roar was used too

  • @DrZen007 right !!

  • They also used the t-rex roar for the thanator during in one of the trailers.

  • Facilities do not create sound, people do!

  • ALL HAIL GARY RYDSTROM and THE MIGHTY SYNCLAVIER!!

  • And Jurassic Park "stole" sounds from Star Wars (banthas become Dinos)

  • Now I know I'm not the only one who heard Jurassic park sounds in Avatar.

  • im glad someone caught that

  • hey.... they both stole it from a real animal, think of that.

  • @alienjoe123 what animal was that?

  • @mavrick45 dunno, but most the sounds in the dinosaur documentaries are based off living animals.

I believe its some kind of penguin. but don't quote me.

  • theres also some mammal mixed into it, sounds like a horse.

  • Yeah yeah but seriously avatar is a movie ???

  • What the hell is moop?

  • avatar is nothing but a ripoff of furngully

  • They spend so much in visual effects that they had to save in sound effects!

  • They didn't stole only that sound. I heard JP sounds three or four times in the movie.

  • Yes.. If Avatar would be so superior as it was hyped... it is should have it's own soundeffects... this is just shows what I have tought. Avatar is just a bullshit, overhyped sh*t.

  • basterds!

  • Avatar predator Thanator roarind like T-Rex from Jurassic park

  • Thank goodness some one elese hears them!! Ever time I watch this movie people think im crazy when I piont it out But Im Right!!!

  • Avatar stole the Raptor and the T.Rex sound!! Avatar you bastard of a film!! Jurassic Park will never be beaten by this film!

  • Considering that the sound effects are just doctored sounds found in the real world (such as pig squels, walrus barks and I dunno probably Frank Welker) chances are people are going to come across similar sounds if not the same. A lot of films and TV shows share the same sound libraries. I've heard the sounds of the ghostbusters proton packs and streams used in other stuff - which is sacreligious to me - but it happens... in fact chances are they were used in something else even before that.

  • the thing big hairless cat thing that chased after them had the t rex roar

  • FOOOLS! JP ALL THE WAY.

  • and james camron is asshole he riped off halo

  • wait james camron helped steven spielberg to make jurassic park have you ever watched the making of jurassic park?

  • Its called being cheap and lazy.

  • Glad to know I wasn't the only one that noticed. But anyway who cares? they're both great movies.

  • I´m not 100% sure about this one, although I get your point.

But for me there is a sound that was made by the T Rex when it was like dying or beeing tranquilized that is just used EVERYWHERE today whenever there is some other beast in other movies. Has anyone else noticed this?

  • Indeed- sound effects creators sell their sounds to movies. You will hear MANY sound effects (especially the traditional cat scream in garbage cans) played in different movies. Don't worry, they bought them. :P

  • don't forget the "big alien panther"...it growls like jp's t-rex!!!

  • If it wasn't mentioned, you forgot the "Thanator" tyrannosaurus rex.

  • omg i noticed this too; im glad someone else did haha

  • avatar was just cheep shit all the way around i hate that movie

  • "Timmy...What is it!" "It's a Velociraptor!"

  • That was the only thing that was disturbing me a LITTLE bit. But only for a short time. Avatar rocks!

  • wold be epic if thise avatars wold ride the raptors

  • Whoa they actually admit that they borrowed this sound from Jurassic Park in the extra features of the extended Blu-Ray!

  • @Jort007 well it was too obvious tof them to try and conceil it to be honest. if they had, they would have looked dishonest

  • Also, the Thanator has the same roar as the T-Rex..

  • I remember when I first saw that scene from avatar at the cinema I immediately recognised the raptor sound. It really is obvious as he'll isn't it! I thought James Cameron has a budget the size of the UK economy!!

  • I noticed that as soon as i heard it! lol

  • it appears not many of the people commenting know much about film sound design so I'll try and clear up some stuff regarding these two movies. Ken Fischer and Chris Boyes were sound effects editors/designers on Jurassic park and also Avatar. They simply made the creative choice to implement the same sound effects in both situations. It's more common than you might think. For a more obvious example search youtube for "wilhelm scream"

    Regards, scott

  • not surprising both of them work at Skywalker Sound where both movies were done.

  • @ScottBowenAudio It's incredibly common, but that doesn't make it acceptable. I'm a sound designer myself, and this movie pissed me off with what a terrible job they did. To put that much time, money and effort into every other aspect of the film and then slap a bunch of crap pre-made SFX in it seems cheap and corny to me. I'm not saying I hated Avatar (rather enjoyed it) and the sound design on JP is legend, so it's just all the more confusing how they'd crap out so bad here.

  • I should clarify...that they slap in pre-made SFX is crap, not that the SFX themselves are terrible. I'm just tired of 'cut from library, paste to movie' being acceptable. I get that there is a huge time constraint, but with something this big they should make the time to be more creative with it. When the general public notices the copy-paste, you know it's bad.

  • @thelizardofodd Just because James Cameron had a large budget doesn't mean that he's not trying to be careful about the costs, and getting new sound effects costs a lot extra, expecially if they hire someone to do it, which is common. Also, it would not make sense to spend the money to create new sounds if they have sounds that are exactly what they are looking for!

  • @ScottBowenAudio It IS pretty common, but usually it seems to be more a case of laziness than something like this (which is pretty obviously a reference to their older work). One good example of what I mean is that whenever you see some rugged mountain shot, usually you'll hear the stereotypical "bald eagle" screech. It's ALWAYS the same one, and IIRC, the clip used is not even a bald eagle but a hawk.

  • @ScottBowenAudio That being said, the inclusion of those sound effects falls upon one man's shoulders: James Cameron. For the amount of time he spends reminding us how revolutionary he is, he has no qualms and no shame about borrowing, not just sound effects, but ICONIC sound effects.

  • @ScottBowenAudio It's common to implement an audio cliche, but when it comes to creating a unique environment with new creatures, regardless the tie Ken and Chris had with JP, they should've been more original. As an audio engineer, it really took me out of the immersion every time those SFX kept popping up. IMO I think they went a little overboard.

  • @ScottBowenAudio You, sir, are smarter than most youtubers.

  • @ScottBowenAudio ALL HAIL SKYWALKER SOUND

  • @ScottBowenAudio "They simply made the creative choice to implement the same sound effects in both situations." Well, in my opinion, that's not creative. In fact, its the exact opposite. It's one thing with the wilhelm scream, most humans sound somewhat similar. But Avatar's version of horses and Jurassic Park's Velociraptors are two entirely different creatures. Frankly, this is an insult to Velociraptors. For such a creative and expensive film, they easily could have used more creative sounds.

  • i love the velociraptors

  • WTF

    Damn they gotta steal everthing

    Fu#k you James Cameron

  • I enjoyed Avatar, but i couldn't help feeling they cheaped out sooo much. They have a HUGE budget; what the hell posessed them to use Jurassic Park noises, the plot for Dances With Wolves and the trailer music from Mass Effect?

  • i'm not gonna lie, i was such a big fan of Avatar but after time i realized how much i hated it... the steal noises and use cgi for everything.....idk i just have a hate for it now

  • There's another thing that sounds like T-Rex in Avatar.

  • @ThePeregrinestar yes i thought the same, its the when that black thing is chasing jack sully in the begining .

  • Dude, if they're both from Hollywood, it's not stealing. I'm glad you noticed that, though.

  • Jurassic Park is, was, and always will be, superior to Avatar.

  • @matt484991 Best statement I've heard in a long time brother!!

  • @matt484991 you said it brother

  • Comment removed

  • @matt484991 Sadly, Jurassic Park (the movie, that is) was pretty shallow. The only thing that it has over any other movie were the dinosaurs.

Some people prefer a deeper plot than what JP brought to the table.

  • thats not called 'stealing' ...

  • @Terneyah True. That is just called "another reason why Avatar sucked big balls".

  • i thought it was obvious the first time i saw it

  • does everything from Avatar come from another film?

  • @hackensac Absolutely. :) Avatar is like 10 movies ripped into pieces and mixed together. And some still call this the best movie ever. LOL-(illpop).

  • yeah the sounds were a little to close it was kind of disappointing.

  • i bet this is just a thing to catch the peoples attention to the film. i mean the film was decent but i can name better ones! the goodness of the movie is not the reason it has already made 2.7 billion.

  • By this logic, I guess every film with the Wilhelm scream stole that too.

  • @Kutulhu well.....yeah, and since you bring it up, every time I hear it, I'm completely taken out of whatever it is. Suspension of disbelief flies out the window on a rocket-assisted zipline. It's like it's some sort of inside joke in Hollywood. "Hey, you know what would be hilarious? Let's use the Wilhelm scream in this scene." Well I'm not laughing. The Avatar stuff...meh, sounds a lot alike, yeah, may even be from the same source, but it's not nearly as obvious unless you're looking for it.

  • omg i knew it as soon as i saw the film and this kinda proves it lol they didnt even try and change it
