  • What a beautiful machine...

  • it was the best plane "FROM AN AMERICAN PERSPECTIVE" SURE THING!!!! LIMEEEE

  • around 199 now

  • 109 faster than a more maneuverable than a 190, especially with more powerful radio escort a P-47 to escort the B-17, B-24 and without breaking the B-29. Ladies and Gentlemen the P-51 Mustang

  • Great plane truly great thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GREAT 3 PART SERIES....... THANKS FOR SHARING

  • The P-51-H was faster than the famous "Jug", with a top speed of 487 mph. Incidentally two MAJOR problems faced by the Luftwaffe were a shortage of skilled veteran fighter pilots and insufficient fuel During the last stages of WW2 Luftwaffe pilots had only 60 hours training while the pilots of the USAAF got 450 hours. The Allies enjoyed complete air superiority over Germany in the waning days of WW2. I'm sure a German pilot with equal training was just as good as his American adversary.

  • WW 2 German aces scored such high numbers for one reason. The German pilots weren't rotated back and used as instructors as were the US airmen. Each German pilot flew many more missions than their American counterparts. They simply flew until the war ended and comparatively few survived. Another factor is the LACK OF TARGETS for the USAAF in the latter stages of the war....On D day, the Luftwaffe flew TWO SORTIES against the Allied invasion.

  • Was'nt the "Bearcat" the FASTEST aircraft of the war?

  • @Scharfschutzen1 What I think is that I am free to make a statement of my choosing and you, equally, are free to make one of your own. This is a concept with which neither of us would have been familiar had Nazi Germany won the war. Actually, I admire and respect the Germany of today but had I been around in the 1930's I would have loathed everything they stood for. Death camps? Yes they existed, the tragedy is that Stalin killed countless millions more than Hitler yet it has never been exposed.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 What the Nazis achieved was to prepare for war from 1933 while everybody else was busy trying to keep the peace. Hitler lied and cheated and deluded himself that Germany was "betrayed" in 1918. By August 1941 he had stolen most of Europe and instigated a monstrous regime of mass murder and enslavement in the process. Fantastic accomplishment? All they achieved from Alamein, Stalingrad & Kursk onwards was retreat, defeat & self-destruction. No apology required for Dresden.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 And as far as outnumbering goes, the P51's in squads of 4 usually were outnumbered by the Germans on long runs protecting bombers and they came out on top. The 101st airborne was outnumbered at Bastogne and held. The allies had some quality units and allied airborne divisions were vastly better. But in terms of regular infantry company for company the germans were superior.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 Not saying germany didn't put up a good fight which they did, their infantry tactics and tanks were better and a basic superiority in machine guns is one main reason they survived for so long. However in terms of airpower the allies were top. I never mentioned the U.S. either I said the allies. There's also not alot of debating the superiority of P51's and spitfires against their german counterparts in performance specs. We can go back and forth over the skill of the pilots.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 The allies had superior bombers, fighters except for the me 262, and much better training all facts. The "aces of ww1" you love to spout out about had little to no effect on the bombing campaign post 1943 thats a fact. And claiming they have the best aces today? Yeah what a very claim clearly made by somehow who's bia is clearly towards the germans and is just bitching that the germans got beaten by a superior military regardless of how the war was won.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 Germans had the edge in the early years of the war but as they were all killed off the American pilots far surpassed what the germans were throwing up post 1944. American training was vastly increased while the german training decreased. A fact is that Americans had over 200 hours flying time before they went on a mission, Germans and japanese had less than 100.

  • Great show. The Mustang, like the Spit, the 109, the M1 carbine and the StG 44, is a gorgeous machine. There's only a certain amount of beauty in the world - to have some of it as a characteristic of a weapon seems a shame.

  • Scharfsschultzen, nutty!

American pilots were the best trained compared to all except to early WWII German pilots. By midway through the conflict, German training declined remarkably and American training increased it's quality expotentially.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 what you think your talking to a kid ,,, lets look the the stats ,,, i know the stats ,,, now go educate your self and look up the FACTS

  • @Scharfschutzen1 what ? lets compare , the mustang was used until 1984 as a civialian plane but styill working and used as a military plane until the korean war ,,, dont like the truth dont care it remains ,,, let compare the FACTS the mustang made aces ,,, because it is easy to fly ,,, and land

  • @Scharfschutzen1 just look up the facts ,, see for your self its all very very clear , as i said the 109 had the longest services record ,, dont you know this ? it was used years before there was a mustang ,,, and mystique , no mysttique just a better air frame ,, now go look what im saying

  • @Scharfschutzen1 I totally agree the BF 109, in all her variants, served longer than most Allied planes. Even after the war in numerous countries, even in Israel. But it,s also a fact that the P51 that the P51 had a high kill ratio (not as high as the BF109) and had a long service record until the mid fiftees in the Korean conflict. Did you know that BF109's from the Spanish Airforce were used to film the Batlle of Britain movie in the sixties? American pilots were not the worst btw.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 well it had the longest record of use obviously a type of plane that is used for years would have more chance of seeing action but it didnt last long when it was answered by a plane the was as good so thats not real excenece is it ? thats just beening there a long time i believe by the last veriance of the me 109 they had counted 1000 changes to it original design , and one was capturered before themustang was designed , the mustang was designed and built in 117 days

  • @Scharfschutzen1 actually the 262 was a big failure ,,, and there are accounts of it beening shot down by mustangs and not having a flight time long enough to do any thing ,,, but most of them destroid on the ground no emberassment to the pilots ,

  • @Scharfschutzen1

    Jelousy & envy speaks...

  • @Scharfschutzen1 No, I think the military bases are a sign of ownership!

  • @Scharfschutzen1 Just think Germany lost WW11 and the Americans are still there too......................................military bases and all!!

  • Yup ,the radial engined fighters were much tougher birds to knock out of the sky but the P51 was a real turning point in the war.It took the fight right to the Nazis door, indirectly trashed their industry/infrastructure and directly decimated the Luftwaffe.

The P51 was a great blend.

    I'm British and I'm grateful.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 Hypocritical?? How so??

But to argue with someone who couldn't put a correct sentence together, and speaks with the intelligence of an eggplant, is a waste of time.

Oh, did you get the memo?? You lost.....and that fact hasn't changed in 65 years.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 You here again?? Just when I thought I'd get through a video without your childish luacy, there you are.

I, in a way, almost feel sorry for you. The pathetic clinging to an ideal that was founded by losers, who went on to LOSE.

Oh, and your rants about the superior this, that or the other. The man who helped designed the mustang became a u.s. citizen, so he was german no more. You ancestors came from africa just like the rest of us loser boy.

  • the most beautiful plane that has ever and will ever exist.. if you ask me

  • The hellcat could not compete with the mustang. It s max speed was 380 compared to the 487 of the merlin engine mustangs. It also had a 14.000 ft climb ratio in 6.42 compared to the mustang's 6.8 at ft climb to 20,000 ft. Coupled with the lighter weight of the mustang and the mustangs manuverability, the mustang outclasses it. The hellcat fought zeros, not me 109s and not as skilled pilots as the germans. The mustangs easily out turned 109s because of their short radius.

  • its the pilot not so much the machine. but this vid is kinda biased towards spitfires.....

  • A true legend never dies!!!!

  • No disrespect to an elegant plane, but he 'best' WWII fighter in production during the war was undeniably the Hellcat. Best kill ratio bar none at 16:1. The durable Double Wasp radial engine could not be stopped. Also, had one of the best turning radii of any of the American fighters (similar to the P-38). Had the Bearcat been in production earlier, it would have stolen the glory from the Mustang.

  • No disrespect to the Stang, a truly elegant and fast fighter, but by pure data and straight up kill ratio, the best American WWII fighter was the Hellcat. Yes, the Hellcat. 16:1 kill ratio. Were I a pilot and wanting to come home, I'd want a P&W Double Wasp. The Hellcat can outturn anything we had also, the Corsair and Mustang included. I think it was close to a P-38 as well in that regard. There was an incident where Brit HC's shot down Me109's too. Owned them.

  • They had a 19:1 kill ratio

  • @cbwelch4 No chance on a Hellcat outrunning a Mustang or Corsair. Mustang top speed was 437mph Hellcat was 380mph. Hellcat achieved the high kill ratio mostly because it flew against the lighter less durable aircraft of Japan. My first love was the R2800, having worked on a Hellcat but more recently helped rebuild the P-51C Tuskegee Airmen, you gotta love the song of the Merlin.

  • @redtailslick Also part of the Hellcat's high kill ratio goes to the fact that the hellcat gained a lot of kills when facing more inexperienced fighter pilots.

  • @redtailslick The P-51 H Mustang had a top speed of 480 m.p.h.

  • @redtailslick cbwelch4 didn't say the Hellcat would outrun a Mustang or Corsair, he said it would outTURN them.

  • @cbwelch4 the Germans were better pilots and had better aircraft than the Japanese...That is the reason for the difference....

  • @ClarksonsinUSA actually you cant say that because the a6m zero could out climb the hell cat , the me 109 and the fw190 and out manuver them ,,, also their version of the 262 was suppose to be better than the german one ,,,the biggest factor for the germans were that the 109 had such a long history of working way before the second world war , and didnt face anything as good until later in the war ,,,

  • @cbwelch4 well heres the big difference is this the mustang made more aces than any other plane it was easy to fly like a pro , it had long range and yes it even shot down german jets thats jets ,i think your talking about the F6F the a6m zero could out climb and out manuver the f4f and there was 12 , 275 wildcats they shot down 5,271 planes compare the two,, the mustang was even used in the korean war and was in cival use up to 1984 but the hell cat was great for the navy heavy

  • the greatest american fighter plane of ww2

  • Probably, the ME 109 has shot down more aircraft than the P 51, but most of them were on the Russian front, uncomparable with the performance of the ME 109. Still you all have to admit, the P 51 is a timeless beauty, comparable with the looks of a Jaguar E type.

  • @Brera011 wait your leaving out the fact that the 109 also had the longest sevice record of any plane in ww2 and it was used before europe in spain ,,,, i believe the only plane that has had a longer military sevrice is the phantom ,,, so hence more service more kills ,,,, i think the mustang finished the war , as soon as the sky clear it was over all the german armour was finished in two days because of the mustangs and the mustang made more aces than the 109

  • @Scharfschutzen1 Sorry but any intelligent creature with half a brain wouldn't rely on YOUR judgment to provide a valid critique as to what is truth or propaganda. It's history vs. histrionics: you apparently have a fetish for the latter.

  • @Scharfschutzen1

I see. I'm sure have credible and solid data to back your statement.

  • great upload thanks alot!!

  • Good docu, totally spoiled, once again, and as always, by the addition of loud, faux classical music played over the sound of the aircraft. What a shame, as it is otherwise excellent.

  • Another winner here, the P-51....excellent job!

  • what, no CAC Mustangs? oh well it was a gd vid anyways. thanx for uploading!

  • What is the name and of the music and who wrote it? I reconize it, but neither of the names come to me. Please help!!!!

  • I don't know it sorry...

  • It starts at 2:43. The TF-51 Mustang at 3:10 is the same aircraft that I got to sit in April, 2001 at Sun 'n' Fun in Lakeland, FL!!!!!

  • Ironically, they used Richard Wagner music. The ouverture to "Meistersinger von Nuernberg"

  • @N746ZX The music at the end is the Overture from Wagner's Die Meistersanger. Rather curious given Hitler's obsession with Wagner's music.

  • @N746ZX

    Wagner

The overture to "Die Meistersingers von Nuremberg." Richard Wagner

  • Cool video! all the information you give in the description comes in real handy. I think your vids are pretty cool. They actually have a point and story behind them unlike some other one's. Keep doin' what you do!
