As much as i dont care for pop im getting really sick of people complaining about today's music and mentioning Bieber and Gaga as if they are literally the only two artist around. They don't even have anything to do with rock anyway so if your gonna make a comparison to today's music at least compare them to people of their own genre
@coltoniscoolyall I'm not sure you knew this, but Lady Gaga is actually quite tapped into the classic rock scene. She's performed with the likes of Elton John and Brian May (The lead guitarist from Queen.) and is reportedly being considered for a job as the lead singer of Queen. Her stage name is derived from a Queen song ("Radio Gaga.") and her act and music were heavily influenced by both Freddie Mercury and David Bowie.
Why todays musicians dont make music like this and s**t like shakira, bieber, lady gogo prevail???? what happened to classic rockNroll? where alre the good old times? even though music like this is more than sufficient why cant someone make more of this fantastic music??? shame
@hombage147852 No, you will. Believe it or not, rock and roll is not dead. Bands like Muse, The Black Angels, Flogging Molly, and Threshold still create it quite often. They aren't even the only ones. I even like some mainstream musicians. Were you perchance aware that Justin Bieber is rapidly losing his audience? His last chart bid was a Christmas album, which is the cheapest way to get back into the public eye. You don't have to write a lot of songs, and people will buy it.
@hombage147852 rock n roll died when the big record labels got hold of it, the song have a cigar points to the payola problem in the industry. People like simple melodies, not complicated music that requires thought.
My brother used to sing this song to me, but he sang "cross eyed Dawnie" because that is my name and I was cross eyed until my eye operation when I was 5. My mother was not happy about these lyrics though... :) Nope, no kicks from little boys...hehehe.
LOL All I care about is whether or not I can get it to even slightly resemble the full throttle effect we got out of a stereo and speakers and a 331/3 back in the seventies.
The answer is, so far, no not even close.
Oh for a reel to reel deck and speakers the size of trunk cases again.

Cross-eyed Mary is a middle-aged hair stylist in middle-class suburbia. She works in a hair salon called "The Playground," which is run by a man who cuts hair with a knife. He often "drops her off at 'school,' or cosmetology class.
She does not cut minor's hair, as she is not licensed to do so. She can only cut or style adult's hair, as indicated by the line "rather make it (hairstyle) with a letching grey."
If a customer can sing well, he may exchange an aria for the price of a haircut.

looking for some help,on the back cover of the LP Aqualung ther is a poem by Ian Anderson, does anybody out there know the words? If so please post them in there entirety
@mikebott It gives it no more weight, It is a song about a prostitute. Though it's kind of vague as to whether she is a good hearted prostitute or not.
JETHRO TULL WAS AND STILL IS ONE OF THE BEST!! i am a baby boomer and grew up with this music... i was musically inclined and played the flute in school.. i use to jam with some jethro tull.. yeah baby!!
This record fueled many a party back in the early 70's. This song and most of the others have a very dynamic sound that you don't even notice because the song is so propulsive. Zep 4, Sticky Fingers, and mony otehrs too numerous to mane got a lot of play too. Perfect storm of drugs at the time too: blotter, ludes, hg columbian cheap, and plenty of rolling rock in the little cans and cheap vodka. I was like 12 so mostly I got to just watch the mayhem. It was fun anyway.
I am going to this concert next wed. i am so fuckin low on money, but im NOT missing this opportunity i have loved this shit for so long man, i dont give a flying fuck if im only 17 and my friends dont like this music, KISS MY ASS. This is going to be one hell of a good show, PLUS KANSAS!!! sweeeetnesss..
Cross-eyed Mary is a young prostitute who has sex with dirty old men (the line "gets no kicks from little boys...would rather make it with a letching grey" attests to the fact that she has to take her money from wherever it comes--most often older men who pay for her services. The jack-knife barber is either an abortionist or Mary's pimp. The line "she'll do it for a song" makes is sound like Mary keeps her price low, thus helping the "poor man get along"
@Stratmandoin TRUTH! as evidenced also in the lines "who would be A poor man(or in this instance poor Woman)A beggar man, A thief. If he had A RICH MAN in his hand?" and why steal and risk retribution when the old rich pervert Has A dirty ,secret need. Like an addict, They pay anything to feed their "addiction" and certainly will never expose the secret. Meanwhile The poor molested girl, Who no doubt learned of sex from another adult, sees no wrong in it, and prospers from another's disgrace.
@TheL4nce i read that it's a Dr. who performs illegal abortions, and let's just say that they're not done in any clinical or hospital situation !...as i said before..fucking genius that Ian Anderson !
@blica1 50 million abortions every year worldwide....Does Ian agree with that??? Prepare for blowback folks....We better pray and work for peace....Atheists and agnostics please don't hate those who love Jesus Christ.
Check out Divine Mercy - Sister Faustina...It will give you hope
@sharegrace i'm sure Ian Anderson does NOT agree with abortions..as with a lot of progressive rock music from that era, he was addressing the song lyrics in a fictional context, and not to be taken literally..when i say that his lyrics are genius, i mean that sincerely and as his imaginative demeanor ..things in which he wrote about in this song happen in real life and that's just the way it is unfortunately..
@sharegrace also, i feel compelled to address your stance on your "don't hate people who love Jesus Christ.".religion is the worst form of spirituality, as in it's past history, including that of the vatican's, it has brought more blood shed and turmoil and hopelessness than any abortion has, and that's a fact ! Jesus and religion has nothing to do with hope, nor does praying to well intentioned profit who may or may not have existed,as there is no empirical archaeological evidence to back it up
@sharegrace there is hope for humanity, if ignorant religious advocates (not that you are, just making a point) think that religion, Jesus or "God is the way to salvation..the way to salvation would be being better people towards others and ourselves, abolish rampant ignorance, and stop the corruption and power hungry greedy who actually run this world! so, with that being said, i hope you've opened your eyes and mind to another perspective of life, which in my humble opinion is the right one !
@AudioMagic777 what's not my place or the place to say it ?..no one's entitled to an opinion ?..somebody tries to instill what they think are moral values on me because of a comment i made complimenting Ian Anderson's lyrics in this particular song, i then get reprimanded for my opinion by this person while they try to say Jesus and hope and religion are the "way " ..and you're telling me i have no place to say it ?..i think it's you that who has no place to say anything, so stick with that !
@1n2b3 I don't know, Dio was great, but didn't fit this song so greatly, in my humble opinion. Besides, Elf didn't quite grasp the awesome guitarplaying.
this original version is the best, but if you haven't Iron Maiden's version, you'll be pleasantly surprised ! just click to the right of your screen and hear for yourself !
If you begin at 1:02, this sounds almost exactly like 'Billion Dollar Babies' by Alice Cooper. I wonder if they were on the same label/had the same producers?
This song is so fuckin' kick ass. And this is coming from someone born into the modern generation. Why can't these new mainstream bands learn from these classic music gods?
@clonecomanderfox Dude that's just messed up. The 2 songs you are referring to are "about" HOMELESS ppl. Granted Aqualung may or may not be a pedophile, but Cross Eyed Mary "Gets no kicks from little boys" She's the prostitute version of Robin Hood (Takes from the rich, gives to the poor)...... 66 thumbs up..... ::sigh::
@clonecomanderfox Then what is "Dines in Hampstead village on expense accounted gruel" ?
Honestly my main issue with your comment was that you reduced two of my favorite songs to "songs about Pedophilia"...... Do you honestly think that's what these songs are "about"?
@Carbun09 its people like you is why america goes to war and enjoys doing so!! now go back down in your moms basement and finish fingerbanging your butthole.
@Carbun09 OH, BTW dont be mad because we police the world and smack punkass counties around like adopted kids. we like bombing coutries back to the STONE AGES!!
Dude, the Cold War ended 20 years ago, besides which he was typing with Greek letters and not Cyrillic (Russian) letters. Even if he were typing in Cyrillic letters, that's his right - as I said, the Cold War's over.
Seriously, get over your ignorant Red Scare ethnocentrism.
I remember an album cover (from the 70s) that had people falling from the sky. They were dressed like proper English and they all held umbrellas (kind of like the art of Monty Python). It was called - I think - "Dreams. It was not The 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonikus. Any clues? Anyone who knows this album cover would have to be 55 or so now. There were some great songs and I'd like to know who it was. PLEASE, if you can , HELP! Driving me crazy...
@Thadesgal i don't see umbrellas on the cover but they ARE proper englishmen falling from the sky; the band Dreams released a self-titled album in 1970.
@TheIrishHammer6969 Haven't seen him play but every band that I've seen cover it use a regular flute. I always tried to get my sister to play this but she wouldnt.
Yea I'll take Maiden over this any day.... come on man Hallowed be thy Name, Icarus, Journeyman, Powerslave, Trooper, etc etc etc.... but still maiden is a bit boring and ian gillan pisses me off..... Zeppelin over these 2 any day. And of course Metallica rules all \m/
2nd while iron maiden is an okay band, the transfer of the music did not work to their advantage. The opening flute trills in this cannot accurately be played by the guitar because the sound quality is completely different. A SLOW flute trill gives it a watery feel and is kind of ominous. A FAST guitar trill like the one maiden uses on thier recover completely ruins the tone colour Ian anderson would have been looking for.
Joexi Lmao Dude, I got nothing against Iron Maiden but sorry bro original is best. Plus Jethro Tull is not a person in the band. Really dude? Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd No one is named that in those bands either? To me that shows that any comment you make about this song or band does not mean much. Just the fact that you didnt know that is beyond me? I mean it is all opinions really but i like originals over covers or tributes myself. Original is how it originaly was ment to sound.
It doesn't work in these era. What a waste!. This is Music.

How can 5 people actually dislike jethro Tull. Are they fucking retarded? One of the best bands of all time.

I love how aqualung is a creepy old man, and cross eyed mary is a little girl who sleeps with creepy old men for songs. haha
JacobHilbrich 10 months ago
If you begin at 1:02, this sounds almost exactly like 'Billion Dollar Babies' by Alice Cooper. I wonder if they were on the same label/had the same producers?
Jgeneraledger23 10 months ago
the way the flutes build up in the intro is so damn epic
journeymanjim 10 months ago
This song is so fuckin' kick ass. And this is coming from someone born into the modern generation. Why can't these new mainstream bands learn from these classic music gods?

Aqualung: The most Kickass album with 2 songs about Pedophilia!
clonecomanderfox 11 months ago 81
@clonecomanderfox LOVE SONG, WHICH TRACKS PEDO?
fokker313 9 months ago
@fokker313 This song, which is about a Child Prostitute, and Aqualung, which is about a Pedophilic Homeless man
clonecomanderfox 9 months ago

Dude, the Cold War ended 20 years ago, besides which he was typing with Greek letters and not Cyrillic (Russian) letters. Even if he were typing in Cyrillic letters, that's his right - as I said, the Cold War's over.
Seriously, get over your ignorant Red Scare ethnocentrism.

Really? Is that why Obama and Medvedev agreed a drastic reduction of nuclear weapons on both sides last year? Think before you speak, mate.

I love hearing something on a radio and you instantly like it
then you try to listen to the lyrics and try to deduce the title from it
I searched "cross eyed baby"

I remember an album cover (from the 70s) that had people falling from the sky. They were dressed like proper English and they all held umbrellas (kind of like the art of Monty Python). It was called - I think - "Dreams. It was not The 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonikus. Any clues? Anyone who knows this album cover would have to be 55 or so now. There were some great songs and I'd like to know who it was. PLEASE, if you can , HELP! Driving me crazy...
Thadesgal 11 months ago
@Thadesgal i don't see umbrellas on the cover but they ARE proper englishmen falling from the sky; the band Dreams released a self-titled album in 1970.

And of course Metallica rules all \m/
diamondback604 1 year ago
@diamondback604
1st of all-what do you like about metallica?
