FFS guys! Enya does sing live! The lead vocals are actually her! But due to the layering technique, she needs the backing track of herself, 'cause no one else can do the backing vocals 'cause they don't sound like her.
Enya records each layer individually and then puts it all together. She is performing here to the layering, but the top layer, the foremost vocals, she is performing on spot. And she has a group of back-up vocalists off to the side. They can be seen when the camera pulls back and pans.

I want to hear her voice to be a bit out of tune, cause it really sounds like lip syncing to me. kind of sad, cause I don't feel her voice, it's ok to sound like that on a record, but it's just..too perfect.
no wonder wshe doesnt perform live very often, notice every time she sings live, her backing track is the actual track. consider that she records all of the vocals on her recordings, and the only way to reproduce that effect would be to find a choir of enya's! haha. well, i think they should take some of her best songs and take out all of the tracks but the backing vocals, then play with those tracks live, and you would hear her, the piano, the strings, everything, along with her backing vocals.
because enya is such a perfectionist from what i hear and her music is so different, it's hard not to use tracks... if she did sing live without the tracks do you think it would sound the same?
yes, Enya hardly ever performs live- but sometimes she does. watch 'May It Be' at Academy Awards and at Larry King Show- both are live. there is also one 'Amarantine' live and 'Only Time'.
she must be a studio musician only, every performance I have found for her on youtube provides enya miming along to a recorded backing vocal, even the orchestral instruments have no live feed "sound".
dont get me wrong i love enya. but its very very common for performers to lip sync. the exlact version of the song on the album is playing bit by bit. all you need to do is play the album an listen to this at the same time and then tell me im a moron.

It's just kinda hard to create the layering voices live..that's probably why she's lip syncing most of the time..but this IS live ;)
