I think you would still be very wary of a Tiger tank even if you were going up against it in a British Challenger 2, American A1 Abrams or a German Leopard. I think its 88mm gun could take out any other tank from 3000 yards.
@Wonkabar007 Thankyou for that. I am British and I have heard stories that German Tiger tanks could EASILY take out American and British Shermans from just under 3 miles whereas the Sherman would have to get within a mile and hit it in precisely the right spot to stop a Tiger. An Allied war crime against the Allies if you think about it really.
@SUNSETRETREATSXM I fully agree - perhaps this is a project for Adam Savage and Mythbusters. Thumbs up if you want Mythbusters to get into this by popular demand!
@Wonkabar007 remember, it doesnt have to penetrate the armor! The shockwave itself will take out the crew, and bending armor will eject splinters into the interior, which is LETHAL! The modern armor aint working against anti-tank shells once it is in a shorter range. It also depends on how the shell hits the tank, see this; the - is the shell the / & | is the armor when it hits the armor shif like this, -/ it needs to penetrate or bend more, as when it hits straight like this; -|
@Blabloo72 The maximum range of the 88 was 1600 yards, I doubt the 88 could take out a modern western tank at long range.
In Iraq A British Challenger 2 survived a MILAN anti-tank missile and 14 subsequent RPG's hits at close range. US M1's have survived 120mm anti tank rounds and the rare instances where T72's and BMP's were able to score hits.
@Dolomite78 Are you sure on the 1600 yards bit? - every account I read talks about 3 miles or just under and that's why Shermans were hopeless against it.. The 88mm in the Tiger was an amazingly accurate, rifeled weapon that sent out a projectile that gave you a bad day beyond words.
@Blabloo72: Seriously? The Tiger Tank does have 110mm RHA in the turret front, the german DM53 of Leopard II can penetrate 810mm at 2km. The M1A2 SEP's turret front, is approx. 950mm RHA. The Tiger couldn't even destroy a M60A2 at 1000 yards.
@2131373 i thought so too, like there was something grinding together .did you notice the transmission slipping from one gear to the other. maybe the guy driving it just wasn't that expericed.

the tiger is such a beast seeing it irl is like woowwowoh i was at war and peace and one drove past me an a bunch of people and just flattned a water barrel marking the edge of the arina, the barrel poped with it just having mearly touched the treds
@JojotAndTetoj The Germans had the superior heavy tanks of the war, as well as superior numbers, and tactics, Half of Russias generals were killed by stalin at the start of the war, Yes tigers were over complicated, but look at russian heavy tanks, the K series, they were terrible...slow, low armour with small guns, German Panthers and Panzers performed well enough...By the time Russia made a Successful counter attack, Germany was losing on the western front, Attacked on two sides won the war
Not really true, by the time Allied forces landed in France (ignoring that slow marching attack in italy), german Forces were already on a fighting retreat in Russia. After the Invasion the Sovjets just mounted a new and bigger attack that crushed the german center and allowed them to march on Warszawa. All the supply goods they reiceived since 1941 were more important than that second front. German heavy tanks were a reaction mainly ton soviet tanks, so at begin they were superior
@TheMarkzon quite contrary Russian tanks were better and besides 1944 there was half year cease fire on Vistula river only one front gift Stalin's to olde friend Hitler Soviet intelligence was superior and so was strategy of partisan, diversion, warfare cf. Suvorow 's Icebreaker and Last Republic Soviets could have knocked out Nazis and conquer Western Europe if Barbarossa had delayed 2 wks
Give me those tigers, how slow they move, how clumsy benzine engines with high voltage (dont burn yourself alive), and dig me out a T34 and after removing some rust it will run like hell forward wreaking havoc. Germans got it all wrong, and by the way, there is an ultimate proof. They lost the war.
As if tanks were the reason Germany lost... It was more due to inefficient planning, bad intel and poor adaptability. German tanks were good, but they were barely ever mass produced on the same scale as T-34 and M4 Sherman. In that category, germanys mass produced Pzkmpfw IV was inferior. Their panther medium tank was superior though, but there were too few. Germany came up with too many prototypes and designs, and simply didn't produce enough of reliable existing models.
@merl0c nowadays manual always tells what a war tool is made for... attack or defence. T34 was wise man's product (assumption: attack, run fast and deep into enemy's territory, maintenance easy for a tractorist, no need for years long military education, guns (note, germans after barbarossa took prisoner lots of soviet guns and mounted them on their vehicles, they were so good armor piercers, engine, diesel (german Maybachs etc were volatile benzin high voltage... T34 wins wars period.
@merl0c Germany did one big mistake. They misinterpreted the results of the Finnish Soviet war. Next, they had very bad intel, several organizations competing for power. Next, they did not set clear objective of winning war, most Russians could have supported them were it not for German atrocities on Russian people. Next, they looked for allies in... Japan, Italy... fools. Next, they "tactically" sold half of Europe to Stalin and brought Soviets closer to heart of Europe in 1939...
@JojotAndTetoj Their greatest mistake was being NAZIs and vicious racists. At the beginning of the war Russian population was greeting them as liberators from Stalin and soldiers surrendering by millions. If they would treated them as human beings Stalin and his cohort would've been hanging from trees very shortly.
@ssmusic214 lebansraum, living space for the german people, hitler regarded slavs as subhuman, if the itailans werent so incompetent barbarossa begins six weeks earlier and if hitler doesnt send guderians panzers to help at kiev, then moscow is taken by september and then stalin is hanging from a tree, but he probally would have killed himself
@packr72 Hitler never had even fraction of military resources necessary to control such enormous territory. The only chance was to swing local population to his side. He had it And he blew it.
@ssmusic214 lets both agree that the world is better place since hitler didnt conquer russia, cause what hitler would have done to the russian people, might have made the holocaust look not as bad
@packr72 actually the partisans were the ones causing trouble mostly all ever the europe to germans and italians, because they knew the terrain better, for example yugoslavian partisans they went into the woods defeated kept slaughtering italians and they eventually capitulated, they only had some rifles they stole, eventually by the end of the 1942 they got the first mortars lol.
@JokaTHePatriot problems yes, but major setbacks, hardly, and a few thousand brits with very few tanks beat over 300,000 italians with tanks, artillery and air support, beating the italians in ww2 was not a major accomplishment
@ssmusic214 Really? All the generals and field marshals were members of the party, and racist? You must live in a nice, neat black and white sort of reality.
@theonetruekirk You are totally without a clue! "generals and field marshals" were not only AGAINST THE WAR, but tried to KILL Hitler many times to prevent it.
@ssmusic214 Yes, but "they" too were some of the people making the strategic decisions. There were also others who just "did their job" as far as waging a war was concerned; who had no interest in the party one way or the other.
"They" never tried to kill Hitler to prevent the war. "They" tried to kill him after the war was already in progress. You suggest that I am clueless. Perhaps you should pick up a book or two (memoirs are a good source) before you assume what i do/don't know.
@theonetruekirk You are clueless! 1st overthrow and assassination was planned by top generals and field marshals in 1935 when Hitler decided to violate Treaty of Versailles and invade Rhineland with only 3 battalions of lightly armed infantry. They decided than Hitler was insane and must be removed for the good of the country. Another one right before signing of Munich agreement. To their astonishment French and British let Hitler get away with blatant bluffs.
@ssmusic214 Not even sure what we are arguing about anymore. I was originally replying to a comment you made how many months ago? Probably something racist against Germans. Probably stereotyping how they are all Nazis, blah, blah, blah. Either way it's a tired argument. It was a video of some interesting history pieces for Satans sake!
@ssmusic214 You are absolutely right about everything. All my points were nonsense. I'm so glad that you are around to correct me in my errant ways. No, truly you are godlike among men. The angels must sing every morning when you awaken and grace us all with your presence. Mere mortals like me bow to your infinite knowledge.
@ssmusic214 You're exactly right. Stalin was viciously hated, and the road to Moscow would have had many new recruits. The Holocaust itself was probably an even worse mistake, since Jews had been brave and loyal Germans for generations.
@Wesleyfromindy2 LOL That's a joke right? The Jews *loyal*? LMAO. you know nothing of the history fo Jews in Germany. As for the Holocaust, that shit is so over exaggerated its not even funny.
German engineering is unmatched & undiluted. Its the best. Centuries after Centuries they have proved the best in engineering marvel. Long live Germany. With love from India.. SG
@subikashbunty "German engineering is unmatched & undiluted. Its the best. Centuries after Centuries they have proved the best in engineering marvel. Long live Germany. With love from India.. SG"
Shame the gearing in both Tigers and Panthers was rubbish then. The final drive had straight teeth and could be shredded quite easily. Over complicated with out the right components .
@subikashbunty No... most inventions were made beyond and unrelated to Nazism and totalitarian regimes and were unrelated to nationhood.
And yes, I think that there are no proofs that German tanks were better. For what first ask? For defense as mobile pilboxes (kingtiger). Without economical considerations?
Soviet armor (do not consider me soviet lover, because I hate totalitarian regimes) was by all objective measurements better, better engines, beter guns, better tactical, logistic asumptions.
@lActrXvids Do not better LOL@ Yes, better russian guns at Barbarossa times germans meticulously picked up what they took over from Russians, they did not have equivalent, good, guns. especially good for that purpose was Russian 76.2mm F-22 Model 1936 divisional field gun, designated as 76.2mm PaK 36(r) L/51 .. Most of what you learn about soviet unpreparedness to war was work of pro-soviet leftist publications or even independent ones repeating post war stalinist claims "We were unprepared".
If the russians were so much better at everything (even tho historians agree that German training, tactics, guns > russian) then why on earth did they lose so many vehicles and men? And don't give the "oh attacking is much harder" crap, the germans attacked first. And by the time germany retreated they barely had any gas left for their tanks and shitty air/supply support. Hundreds of tigers were destroyed by their own crews and not the enemy. Russia = MUCH more tanks, better air
@kharkhov it looks like it does not have power in 2 or more cylinders. and what u expected? it have ~70 years now. thanks god it works! and believe me - maybach don't produce new replacement parts xD
Go see youtube "T-34 vs Pz Kpfw 5 Panther Т-34 против Т-5 "Пантера". I wonder if the high esteem for German tanks is not the result of Russian propaganda influencing Western history writers after the war... Soviets like to picture themselves as victims, stressing how unprepared and overwhelmed they were. Well, they were very well prepared, but not for defense. eg. they mobilised 1 mln paratroop force in 1941 and they were superior in armor force ... but, eg. they had wrong maps.
Go to youtube "T-34 na poligonie wyższy bieg" starting from 0:36 it is a very agile beast comparing to sluggish german tanks presented here.... and the sound of the engine... you will have it extremely hard to convince me Germans had better tanks.
@lActrXvids beter not LOL... you do not want your engine to go off during battle, or not start, or break a vital part for which you do not have any replacement. Or have several people fight most of the time with the faulty and complicated engine and not against the enemy. And die because a spark inside during battle ignited the engine compartment.
However I agree that the myths about German tanks are for the most part not true. They had they fair share of flaws, but they weren't as bad as you make them out to be. Because if they would have been they wouldn't have kicked so much arse before losing the war. As I said, there is a reason for allied losses especially concerning tanks and it wasn't just training and tactics (which btw they Germans were anal about even late in the war when it comes to tanks).
Last but not least... listen to the engines. I know they are old etc... copy paste to youtube search "T-34 Odpowietrzanie pompy paliwa i z samostartem silnik odpalił" and listen to this engine. Which sound promises better performance in battle? I leave it to your judgment.
As for other OT's like Russians won thanks to US help etc... well... ask Hitler why he looked for allies in Japan, Romania and Italy. Stalin, beside being a sociopate, was also extremely intelligent. He botched the attack on Ploesti (Barbarossa was indeed a preemptive action) but it only delayed the defeat of Germany. By the way, when Tigers and Panthers rusted, T34 long after the war and then, refurbished were sent to fight in Africas varius conflicts, in worst conditions imaginable.
T34 was designed not for a professional but for an agricultural tractor driver. It was fast, the engine powered with diesel did not catch fire so easy, there was no high voltage needed. When broken it would be repaired by an average operator. Spare parts would be produced in impromtu shops... And any weapon should be viewed as part of the whole, first softening with Katiusha and howitzers, then a coordinated attack of infantry, sturmovniki planes and T34's.
Superior for what. You can judge it by studying manuals... Russian tanks even after the war were built according to one doctrine... run forward... run or even fly, be dropped (some of armored mobile howitzers... drive fast and cause havoc. They were never good for the defence, and so they were in 1941... through 1945. Soviet doctine was to defend ... by attacking and moving the fight to enemy territory...
@JojotAndTetoj M4 Sherman as well. Most favor it over the T-34 after the war. Better armament and optics give it the edge over the T-34/85. It was cheap to produce like the T-34. The Israeli interesting turn the M4 into the tank killing M50. The M50 had better armor and its armament (French upgrade version of the KwK 42 75mm) was very good. The Israeli use them to plugged gaps in the Golan Heights. The M50 performs exceed its Soviet T-34/85 counter-part and even the T-54.
at least @choppr777 has some common sense and isnt a revisionist pretending like the Nazis werent intellectually superior to mother russia, and that they weren't a well-oiled machine near perfection.

TheMarkzon 9 months ago
@TheMarkzon
HDreamer 9 months ago

JojotAndTetoj 9 months ago
@JojotAndTetoj
Germany came up with too many prototypes and designs, and simply didn't produce enough of reliable existing models.
merl0c 9 months ago
@merl0c nowadays manual always tells what a war tool is made for... attack or defence. T34 was wise man's product (assumption: attack, run fast and deep into enemy's territory, maintenance easy for a tractorist, no need for years long military education, guns (note, germans after barbarossa took prisoner lots of soviet guns and mounted them on their vehicles, they were so good armor piercers, engine, diesel (german Maybachs etc were volatile benzin high voltage... T34 wins wars period.
JojotAndTetoj 9 months ago
@merl0c Germany did one big mistake. They misinterpreted the results of the Finnish Soviet war. Next, they had very bad intel, several organizations competing for power. Next, they did not set clear objective of winning war, most Russians could have supported them were it not for German atrocities on Russian people. Next, they looked for allies in... Japan, Italy... fools. Next, they "tactically" sold half of Europe to Stalin and brought Soviets closer to heart of Europe in 1939...
JojotAndTetoj 8 months ago
@JojotAndTetoj Their greatest mistake was being NAZIs and vicious racists. At the beginning of the war Russian population was greeting them as liberators from Stalin and soldiers surrendering by millions. If they would treated them as human beings Stalin and his cohort would've been hanging from trees very shortly.
ssmusic214 8 months ago 20
@ssmusic214 lebansraum, living space for the german people, hitler regarded slavs as subhuman, if the itailans werent so incompetent barbarossa begins six weeks earlier and if hitler doesnt send guderians panzers to help at kiev, then moscow is taken by september and then stalin is hanging from a tree, but he probally would have killed himself
packr72 8 months ago
@packr72 Problem is: after fall of Moscow Hitler would still have few million of square miles to conquer.
ssmusic214 8 months ago
@ssmusic214 yes but no army to have to destroy, if anything only partisans, which the ss would deal with very quickly
packr72 8 months ago
@packr72 Hitler never had even fraction of military resources necessary to control such enormous territory. The only chance was to swing local population to his side. He had it And he blew it.
ssmusic214 8 months ago
@ssmusic214 lets both agree that the world is better place since hitler didnt conquer russia, cause what hitler would have done to the russian people, might have made the holocaust look not as bad
packr72 8 months ago
@packr72 Rhetorical question. As I said there was never a chance of Hitler controlling such huge territory without cooperation with local population.
ssmusic214 8 months ago
@packr72 actually the partisans were the ones causing trouble mostly all ever the europe to germans and italians, because they knew the terrain better, for example yugoslavian partisans they went into the woods defeated kept slaughtering italians and they eventually capitulated, they only had some rifles they stole, eventually by the end of the 1942 they got the first mortars lol.
JokaTHePatriot 8 months ago
@JokaTHePatriot problems yes, but major setbacks, hardly, and a few thousand brits with very few tanks beat over 300,000 italians with tanks, artillery and air support, beating the italians in ww2 was not a major accomplishment

@ssmusic214 too simple. Most were Germans were not Nazis or anymore racist than the next group. War is an ugly business.

@theonetruekirk SO what? Those who were making strategic decisions WERE.
ssmusic214 6 months ago
@ssmusic214 Really? All the generals and field marshals were members of the party, and racist? You must live in a nice, neat black and white sort of reality.
theonetruekirk 5 months ago
@theonetruekirk You are totally without a clue! "generals and field marshals" were not only AGAINST THE WAR, but tried to KILL Hitler many times to prevent it.
ssmusic214 5 months ago
@ssmusic214 Yes, but "they" too were some of the people making the strategic decisions. There were also others who just "did their job" as far as waging a war was concerned; who had no interest in the party one way or the other.
"They" never tried to kill Hitler to prevent the war. "They" tried to kill him after the war was already in progress. You suggest that I am clueless. Perhaps you should pick up a book or two (memoirs are a good source) before you assume what i do/don't know.
theonetruekirk 5 months ago
@theonetruekirk You are clueless! 1st overthrow and assassination was planned by top generals and field marshals in 1935 when Hitler decided to violate Treaty of Versailles and invade Rhineland with only 3 battalions of lightly armed infantry. They decided than Hitler was insane and must be removed for the good of the country. Another one right before signing of Munich agreement. To their astonishment French and British let Hitler get away with blatant bluffs.
ssmusic214 5 months ago
@ssmusic214 Not even sure what we are arguing about anymore. I was originally replying to a comment you made how many months ago? Probably something racist against Germans. Probably stereotyping how they are all Nazis, blah, blah, blah. Either way it's a tired argument. It was a video of some interesting history pieces for Satans sake!

Over complicated with out the right components .
lurch8111 9 months ago
@subikashbunty No... most inventions were made beyond and unrelated to Nazism and totalitarian regimes and were unrelated to nationhood.
And yes, I think that there are no proofs that German tanks were better. For what first ask? For defense as mobile pilboxes (kingtiger). Without economical considerations?
Soviet armor (do not consider me soviet lover, because I hate totalitarian regimes) was by all objective measurements better, better engines, beter guns, better tactical, logistic asumptions.
JojotAndTetoj 9 months ago
@JojotAndTetoj LOL@ better guns
lActrXvids 9 months ago
@lActrXvids Do not better LOL@ Yes, better russian guns at Barbarossa times germans meticulously picked up what they took over from Russians, they did not have equivalent, good, guns. especially good for that purpose was Russian 76.2mm F-22 Model 1936 divisional field gun, designated as 76.2mm PaK 36(r) L/51 .. Most of what you learn about soviet unpreparedness to war was work of pro-soviet leftist publications or even independent ones repeating post war stalinist claims "We were unprepared".
JojotAndTetoj 9 months ago
@JojotAndTetoj

JojotAndTetoj 10 months ago
Go to youtube "T-34 na poligonie wyższy bieg" starting from 0:36 it is a very agile beast comparing to sluggish german tanks presented here.... and the sound of the engine... you will have it extremely hard to convince me Germans had better tanks.
JojotAndTetoj 10 months ago
@JojotAndTetoj and you're basing this assumption by the sound of their engines? LOL
lActrXvids 9 months ago
@lActrXvids beter not LOL... you do not want your engine to go off during battle, or not start, or break a vital part for which you do not have any replacement. Or have several people fight most of the time with the faulty and complicated engine and not against the enemy. And die because a spark inside during battle ignited the engine compartment.
JojotAndTetoj 9 months ago
@JojotAndTetoj
Shermingtan 9 months ago
Last but not least... listen to the engines. I know they are old etc... copy paste to youtube search "T-34 Odpowietrzanie pompy paliwa i z samostartem silnik odpalił" and listen to this engine. Which sound promises better performance in battle? I leave it to your judgment.
JojotAndTetoj 10 months ago
As for other OT's like Russians won thanks to US help etc... well... ask Hitler why he looked for allies in Japan, Romania and Italy. Stalin, beside being a sociopate, was also extremely intelligent. He botched the attack on Ploesti (Barbarossa was indeed a preemptive action) but it only delayed the defeat of Germany. By the way, when Tigers and Panthers rusted, T34 long after the war and then, refurbished were sent to fight in Africas varius conflicts, in worst conditions imaginable.
JojotAndTetoj 10 months ago
T34 was designed not for a professional but for an agricultural tractor driver. It was fast, the engine powered with diesel did not catch fire so easy, there was no high voltage needed. When broken it would be repaired by an average operator. Spare parts would be produced in impromtu shops... And any weapon should be viewed as part of the whole, first softening with Katiusha and howitzers, then a coordinated attack of infantry, sturmovniki planes and T34's.
JojotAndTetoj 10 months ago
Superior for what. You can judge it by studying manuals... Russian tanks even after the war were built according to one doctrine... run forward... run or even fly, be dropped (some of armored mobile howitzers... drive fast and cause havoc. They were never good for the defence, and so they were in 1941... through 1945. Soviet doctine was to defend ... by attacking and moving the fight to enemy territory...
JojotAndTetoj 10 months ago
There is only 6 tiger tanks which survived . This one has a major engine problem. But i wouldn't care in the battlefield cause the sound is amazing!

JojotAndTetoj 10 months ago
@JojotAndTetoj M4 Sherman as well. Most favor it over the T-34 after the war. Better armament and optics give it the edge over the T-34/85. It was cheap to produce like the T-34. The Israeli interesting turn the M4 into the tank killing M50. The M50 had better armor and its armament (French upgrade version of the KwK 42 75mm) was very good. The Israeli use them to plugged gaps in the Golan Heights. The M50 performs exceed its Soviet T-34/85 counter-part and even the T-54.
