Not a bad idea for beginner guitarist. teaches them how to make chords (unlike the one finger GH). Even veteran guitarist could learn new chords other than the basic 4 or 5 most guitar players use. Computer analyzes sound (like a tuner) to determine that you played each note or chord right. Wonder how much JUST the software will be so I could hook up my Jackson KE-2 and maybe get my son more interested in learning

For 200 dollars you can just buy yourself an ACTUAL guitar and learn from scratch like everyone else does. Ok, after you buy this you learn how to play the guitar, etc. You're still gonna have to drop another 200+ on a real guitar. So why not just buy an acoustic, and learn how to play like the rest.

Guitar Rising is a lot better than this, I prefer the interface to be Guitar Pro 5(tab) style rather than this. Also Disney songs?!? Come on no decent guitarist who isn't a preteen girl will play those songs. Guitar Rising gives you a plug to use in it instead of the need to buy another guitar. The only software specific guitar I would buy is one of the Line 6 Variax's.
Just to add that IMHO these things con never measure the total expressive power of the guitar, and they work best with things with "discrete" notes, such as drums or keyboards. Having said that, this is a great educational and competion tool if it works ok (especially if it can track fast notes:)
Kudos for doing this with real instruments. I'm an audio scientist and did some similar experiments while ago with guitar's magnetic out. Latency was not a serious issue; analysis window might be ~10 ms, plus the processing. Our stuff didn't completely work mainly because it is difficult to pinpoint the attack i.e. the beginning of the note, especially with compressed sound and fast tempos. After the attack detection, pitch analysis would follow, which would in turn be affected by vibrato etc.
By the way, the two guys in this video are total douchebags as well.

I think there is a program called guitar revolution or something that works with ANY electric guitar since it has an accessory to plug it in your computer just like this one...except its not Disney :)

This is awesome ! All we need is the platform they seem to have successfully developped, while others have been desperately trying (see LittleBigStar). Obviously the tracklist will be craptastic, but with user-generated songs, like whats Frets on Fire offers today ..? Best game EVER ! Just crack/mod the stuff and I'm more than sold.

LAME!!! it will teach you gay little disney songs and cords...they wont have all that remains, disturbed, dragonforce, or any of the other good songs from rock band/guitar hero and if you think it will teach you how to eventualy make your own songs your most likely wrong...no scales or arpeggios...just high school musical and jonas brothers

I DO have a life! =( anyways this game sounds kewl, fun, and a great way to learn how to play the guitar but
idk about making this game for the pc/mac. he said he wanted to make a "bridge" between guitar hero and real life guitar but most ppl who played GH own xbox360, ps3, or wii. we're already broke! plus, anything with "Disney" on the title is obviously gonna have hannah montana and the jonas bros. (those guys need to get raped or something) so... f that

the guy doing the interview was a total asshole. just because i can play a video game and have fun while doing it, instead of trying to learn my 12 major scales, doesn't mean i have no friends.
this game was a really good idea, but that fucking dickhead ruined the whole thing for me. i never want to see this thing in a store cuz i'll smash it or rip the strings off or something. im just so pissed off. the guy was talking like he was trying to keep in the smoke from a bong hit. what a douchebag.

whats the percentage of bands that start out and actually become famous and "rock stars", so to speak? because, last time i checked, it was about 3%. now, granted, its probably lower, since the last time i checked that statistic, it was 2006.
if i ever learn how to play the guitar, it'll be a hobby, just like playing guitar hero is to me now. i do it just for fun. my point is, even if i pay 500 bucks for a guitar, amp, lessons, and all that shit, im still no where. whats to gain from it?

guitar hero tournaments offer cash prizes. I know of someone who bought their HOUSE with their guitar hero winnings. also, unless everyone commenting like this can play both realtar and guitar hero good, then they are being total hipocrites.

Guitar Rising is a lot better than this, I prefer the interface to be Guitar Pro 5(tab) style rather than this. Also Disney songs?!? Come on no decent guitarist who isn't a preteen girl will play those songs. Guitar Rising gives you a plug to use in it instead of the need to buy another guitar. The only software specific guitar I would buy is one of the Line 6 Variax's.

Just to add that IMHO these things con never measure the total expressive power of the guitar, and they work best with things with "discrete" notes, such as drums or keyboards. Having said that, this is a great educational and competion tool if it works ok (especially if it can track fast notes:)

Kudos for doing this with real instruments. I'm an audio scientist and did some similar experiments while ago with guitar's magnetic out. Latency was not a serious issue; analysis window might be ~10 ms, plus the processing. Our stuff didn't completely work mainly because it is difficult to pinpoint the attack i.e. the beginning of the note, especially with compressed sound and fast tempos. After the attack detection, pitch analysis would follow, which would in turn be affected by vibrato etc.

I think there is a program called guitar revolution or something that works with ANY electric guitar since it has an accessory to plug it in your computer just like this one...except its not Disney :)

i also agree, i hate bragging and saying how good i am at stuff but i am really good at both so this game was a must look up to me because i have always wanted a game like this and this is just an opening to make a metal version eventually.
by the way did you know that the best guitar hero player in the world is a phenomenal pianist/ drummer.

first of all, you can make money off of guitar hero. I know of a person who bought his HOUSE with his guitar hero winnings. Second, many guitar hero players also play real instruments.
