@ubermissle Its not necessary to soul glitch, and his health was going down awfully fast for a cheater. He probably trained at the forest hunter guys for an hour or two and maxed out his pyromancy flame. That's what I did to make this fight easier.

Fuck this game, i rage quit at this boss fight took out the disk and broke it. I watched the videos read all the advice and nothing helped. I could not separate them they both were on my back all the time.I attack one the other is attacking me, so frustrating. I hate how at this stage i felt, mad, upset. I like challenging games but this becoming unbearable. Going to play Saints Row 3 and have a good time. To all who have beat this game well done, you are a better gamer then me.

@STARSHIPUFO alright if you read the strat then you should know to keep Smough between you and Ornstein. Smough is by far the easier Boss since you can see his attacks coming (this is if you want the Dragon Slayer as the last one standing). but if you want to face Smough as the Last one standing then you have to keep him away from you and thats easy since alll you have to do is run to the opposite end of the room from him and Kill Ornstein while your alone. Tactics not skill :)

Anybody who make a coop build will beef it up quite a bit the other bonfire close to the boss room is the best place to hook up a coop party! Am actually amaze that you have not been invaded yet this section is considered one of the best spot for PvP.

Rurikhan one question though, have you ever made a character that did not focus on ENDUR/VIT? Or do you always just treat STR/DEX upgrades as a means to reach the minimum requirements of a choice weapon?

If you have not yet tired of the game I suggest making a STR focused character as your next one and use a two handed or great sword with good scaling. It is surprising how different the gameplay experience feels when you upgrade your character differently. Such an amazing game this.

Also, pro tip, using the regular attack of the spear you can attack with impunity because your character attacks while holding his shield up. With the heavy attack he leans forward and exposes himself to danger.

Spears dont do too much damage but that is outweighed by that almost game breaking advantage.

@rurikhan Using spear with shield up uses more stamina? I never noticed. Anyway the tip was not meant for you who already are a advance player, but for prospective players. I know it made the game about ten times easier once I found that one out, but it also made the game more boring. Also, you sure do love your stamina, I have a lvl 120 char on round 3 with lower stamina than your current one. I've seen that you are very good about dodging attacks so you shouldn't even need stamina that much.

@kamiotokonoko I dont think he is making a mistake leveling his stats in thar order, I always do practically the same thing but meeting requirements for weapons/shields.

This game has a lot of high base dmg weapons and you dont need the extra dmg from scaling in the 1st run anyways, plus you need a LOT of dex/str to make scaling damage viable.

Remember that people voted for using a Katana and Quelaag's Fury Sword. Those weapons don't do an insane amount of damage, and it takes a lot of titanite shards and chunks to even do the upgrade

My comments were aimed at using weapons that really do need all the boost they can get but it seems he is going to be using the lightning spear so no problem anymore. I do think the game is a bit unbalanced in terms of stat scaling, they need to offer a better advantage.

@kamiotokonoko Quelaag furysword is basically all about the fire dmg, at +5 and 10 humanity in NG it destroys everything except fire resistance mobs.

I forgot about the Katana, still he can upgrade it to lightning or fire path.

Wither it is intended or not this will be a introduction to the game and its mechanics for some viewers, and I fear they'll draw some unwise conclusions from it.

I remember when I played Demon's Souls back at the Asian launch and the game was completely obscure and no one knew about about it. I went in blind and made some bad decisions early. I realized my mistakes later when I started to appreciate the mechanics better. But by then it was already late and, oh, the punishment I endured.

Besides even if my wording was poorly chosen, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls players are notoriously thick skinned. No offence Rurikhan, I am just mystified and confused by your endurance focused technique. Perhaps it is a legitimate alternative way to play, I am looking forward to seeing how you will fare in the future.

But I think the readers have chosen the wrong weapon for your character type.

Indeed this is the thinking man's RPG where there are myriad of ways to play but also myriad ways to set yourself up for humiliating failure and torturous punishment if you do not think things through.

Anyway, I want prospective players that have their appetites whetted by these videos to know that it pays to stop and think about how their stat upgrades and choice of equipment can have dramatic impact on their chance of success.

On my fifth playthrough I want to go as a DEX focus character.

Not just gear either, you also have to be very mindful of where you sink your stat upgrades. A magic user can tear through Smough and Ornstein if they played it smart and sunk their point into INT and bought strong magic spells and ditto for a Pyromancer with good pyromancies and upgraded flame and same for miracle user.

Of course the latter three make for boring play as you constantly hang back. For a melee character DEX or STR all the way but going endur only is just asking for trouble.

@kamiotokonoko Yeah but for this boss in particular even with the minimum dex/str req for furysword make it easy because of the inmense amount of fire dmg it does, and of course having a pyromancy flame its very useful for a melee character, especially if you upgrade it at least to +10 to get great combustion and great fireball its beast mode.

I think these series of videos are not intended to be a guide because if thats the intention its fails, still fun to watch.

Its not about the lvl its about the gear, I killed this boss at SL 3x with Quelaag Furysword and Eagle Shield and I dont consider myself a exceptional player at all.

Kamioto is right ruri, you should lvl some str/dex and upgrade your not going too fast lvl wise just need to upgrade your gear :P

You are building your character wrong, take a look at the comments for the last episode to see why I think that and what you can do about it. In short no more vitality/endurance upgrades, go all dexterity from now on. Only dexterity and upgrade the deuce out of that katana of yours or any other weapon with good dexterity scaling. Also, pick a secondary attack, bow or pyromancy and upgrade the deuce out of whatever you pick.

Dont teach people any more bad habits. Start upgrading things.

@kamiotokonoko The reason I haven't upgraded anything is because I don't really have the gear I want yet, trust me, as soon as I get the armor I want (wraith's) and Quelaag's Furysword those will be upgraded to max pretty quick, I intend on showing players the great hollow so they know where to get that twinkling titanite. You are right however in that I shouldn't have come to Smough & Ornstein like I did if I intended to kill Ornstein last, however it was my first try in normal game.
