sega game gear with tv screen

i wanted the tv tuner so bad when I was a kid. It was extremely hard to get your hands on it. Sega didnt make a lot tv tuners and my guess is 1. It's a "game" gear and kids didnt have a lot of interest in the TV aspect. 2. because the game gear's popularity started declining around the time the tv tuner was released. Nintendo released the gameboy color. Also battery life was 2 hours at best and 6 AA batteries are not cheap. Especially for a kid with no allowance.

hi, well down here in Singapore we still have analog and digital so we can still use it ,,

@MasterXcon The sucky thing is with the conversion to digital, we don't all have outside aerials or satellites so we will forced to watch people on tv going G-FJA-EGHJT while it's stormy outside

It was a great idea to have a TV tuner for the Game gear! it had a good color screen for the time and stand alone Handheld TV's were really expensive! I am amazed that nobody has produced a Digital tuner adapter for the PlayStation portable.

@andthemouse ,,,hi i am not sure about your game gear if i am not wrong it is kid gear from sega ,it the latest version and way better console, all sega game gear has two button and a sami circle start up button ......where kid gear is two big button and a small circle start up button ................

I checked my TV Tuner and there are actually 2 analog channels still available, they are on UHF, one is that MeToo channel, the other is some China-Town station.

Canada doesn't switch over until 2011, and even in the USA LPTV stations will still work on it.

I dont understand why people bought a GameBoy instead of a GameGear.You can watch TV with it,it´s colored and it has got Sonic,Shinobi and so on...

Well,the Gameboy was much cheaper cuz it sucked just like PS2s making more than PS3s and Wiis and Gamecubes etc etc

The Gameboy, in contrast to the Game Gear, was much smaller, cheaper and had a longer battery life. Parents approved of this feature and so it was in many households at the time.

The Game Gear did, however, surpass the Gameboy with a color screen, higher resolution, and lots of peripherals to go along with it. However, a poor battery life and a rather hefty price tag is what caused it's commercial failure.

Not only was part of it what Nintendavin mentioned, but you also had brand loyalty.

I honestly never had any Sega products in my house until the Saturn. I was just never a fan of their games.

That, and the GameGear was already expensive enough without bankrupting me in batteries.
