This brings tears to my eyes... Both of my grandparents on my mum's side both have severe Alzheimer and to know what they once were and to see how deteriorated they are is devastating.. I look at my parents now and pray that this horrible condition doesn't ever effect them.
i dono wt to say guys....there are a lot of things to be sad about human body.... diseases..accidents...organ failure...ageing...memory issues...we really don't have very much of everything to njoy...but yet when looked in detail wt we have seems so enormous like everything
I'm learning about Alzheimer's disease also I'm a junior in highschool and I'm taking basic training for my medical career this is a great video really showed me what its about.... sad
We watched this today in my medical surgical class (I'm an RN student). It impacted me so much. We all hear about Alzheimer's but some never realize how serious and debilitating it can be. I am glad to see that he helped make the most of his father's life and never gave up on him. I have worked with Alzheimer's patients before and I am forever changed now, after watching this. I am thankful this documentary was created, and hopefully we will one day have a cure. Thank you, Chris.
@adewitt06 Thanks!!!! This film has changed my life I have been traveling around screening it for the past two years! I am glad you had a chance to watch it!
Chris we watched the full length dvd in my cna class!!! Amazing job! I'm pretty sure everybody was wiping tears by the end!! ...Oh and by the way i love the song "love won't end"
Very good doc~ I have 2 family members with this rt now my mom & my cousin i just put my mom in a hm & now i have my cousin who is 70 : / she is declining rapidly. It is so devasting. The NH is just a housing facility, not enough staff to watch or care for them. The 1st wk there was horrific. My sis & i go at meal times to make sure she gets fed. Many times they just leave her sitting with no one around' or caring that her food was still on her plate, or that her dentures were not in her mouth..
I have a family history of this, and seen my grandfather suffer with it for a number of years until he passed away. I couldnt watch the whole thing because it's too painful :*(
My Grandfather also passed from Alzheimer's . Not until watching this documentary did I understand the disease in it entirety. You've done a wonderful job on this project, and have done Canadian television a great justice.
AMAZING!! Made me cry! My grandma is battling alzheimer's right now and I am only hoping for the best! I am very sorry about your loss and only hope for the best.
That was the most touching video I have ever seen. To think I am 32 year old man sitting here with tears streaming down my face. You Chris are amazing. Your dad seemed awesome. My mother was just diagnosed with MS yesterday and I can't help but to think what is down the road for the two of us. May god bless you Chris. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video of a wonderful man!
my god chris, great job my friend. My mom has had alzheimers for 15 years now. She just turned 74. Thanks for the film. And thanks for allowing me to get a good cry in. Just to let you know this will be the 5th year for my brother and I to hold our Making Memories golf tourney benefiting the south east Michigan Chapter. We must end Alzheimers
I just discovered this now, as my Dad is in the end stages of early onset dementia (he's 64 years old now).
Society is still too unaware of this disease. Employers, family members, churches, community organizations... so many of them didn't know how to respond to my family's challenges and needs, which made us feel incredibly alone at times.
I've posted this on FB and my blog. How else can we help spread word about your film? Could people who buy the DVD organize a screening?
Thanks for sharing. I know the pain of watching a loved one suffer through a degenarative brain disease. Videos like this are a great teaching tool, and help us all realize that are not- or were not- in this alone.
Thank you for this beautyfull film!my father is for researches at the hospital and we think he has also alzheimer and when i saw your documantarie i cried my eyes out!
I am simply grateful that you decided to tutilize your courage to give us all pause to cherish those moments we have. It sounds trite of course, but the gift you gave us with a glimpse of your wonderful family is one of the most powerful reminders about not only the fragility but the glory of life.
heartbraking..im so sorry for you loss.your Father seemed like such a gentle sweet man.I ts so unfair that he got Alzheimers.. a good man a father. And you seem like such a wonderfull son i cant imagine how hard this was for you..along with his wife as well.My mother has end of stage Alzheimers she is in a nursing home cummer lodge in toronto..she is 75.She is my whole world i love her so much ..i visit her almost everyday.god bless
This is so heartbreaking my mother has end of stage Alzheimers she is in a nursing home in toronto she recentley became very ill..she is 76 the sweetest mother she is my whole world.... she now has to have a g tube feeding she can no longer able to swallow.. this video is so heartbreaking my thoughts and prayers are with you...im soo very sorry your father seemed so gentle god bless
What a beautiful tribute to your father. I am taking my nursing students to practice in an Alzheimer's facility and I will play this clip first. There are lives attached to these people and you have showed the humanity in those that suffer. Thank you for sharing. God bless.
This is such a powerful video. Your dad was a great family man throughout his life until the disease took more away from him. When I was a kid, my grandmother on my mom's side had Alzheimers' disease and it incapacitated her. She became limited both intellectually and physically, unable to speak, walk, feed herself, dress herself, do anything. She lived with my aunt and uncle under intense care until she died in March 1998 at the age of 83. Losing both her parents tore my mother apart.
my heart is with you and your family. your dad sure is a special wonderful man. My mom is in a nursing home now and it sure is a hard road for her. bless you and yours. .... rick
I lost my favorite great aunt this past June from this disease. It sucks :( God Bless everyone and their families going through this tragitiy...RIP Aunt Lenore till we meet again <3 :(
Aw. this made me cry! My grandfather was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease..his mother had it and passed away in 2000. He is like a father to me though cause my dad was never there when I was younger... :/
i just lost both of my grandfathers within 24 hrs due to the alzheimers disease i knw exactly how you all feel im just glad that they arent suffering anymore....
I'm so sorry for your loss. Your father seems to have been a great man. My grandfather passed away this last week after suffering through Alzheimer's and my great grandmother (his mother) is still living in a nursing home with the same disease. Even through the end I knew my grandpa was aware of things in his own way despite how demeaning and hard it got towards the end. Thank you for sharing your family's story. I wish you the best.
My grandmother is suffering from a similar disorder. Each time I see her she has a little more trouble. As I approach middle-age I wonder how many people may be so afflicted by degeneritive disorders, She will always be my SUPER GRANNY (storries she used to tell us grand-kids). Thank you so much for the film. Your Pop seemed like a really cool guy, and I bet he made you, me and the rest of the world a better global community, due to this film. Thank you Chris.
thanks so much for posting this! for years i have tried to explain what to my friends what exactly is happening to my grandpa and you just painted a perfect picture.
Thank you for posting this. I was fourteen years old when my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in his early 50's. This video is touching and shows how valuable every memory is. Thank you again.
If you can, please buy the DVD of this film. It is THE most powerful and true story of the course of dementia I have ever seen, plus its effect on the family.
so very sad ive just lost my uncle his funeral is on monday the 7th miss him so much already i was with him for the last few months of this horrible illness.RIP..
This is an amazing video! Thanks for posting it. I am a cna in a facility for Alzheimer patients for a couple years now. It's truly sad what the disease can do but it's also a blessing to see them come around from time to time. He is a wonderful man and reminds me of some of those I have cared for. May he rest in peace. God bless.
Rest In Peace John. My husband is in middle stages and although sad, the love I felt in your video and the love I try to keep in our lives is what sustains us.
the best video i ever seen! im so sorry about ur dad... i can relate with u cuz my dad walked out and having no father is a terrible feeeling... my great grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's as well and still living with her forgetfulness... this really touched me and i saw same things that my great grandma did aswell.. u hav enspired me 2 make a video..... god bless!
This is an amazing story. I have had the opportunity to work with Alzheimers patients in my healthcare job as a Home Health Aide and a Hospice aide. I met amazing families and patients who like your father has touched my heart . A special man and his family has a place within and I will never forget the time I had been allowed to know, learn and have them in my life. To me they were a special family , He often called me "Mia." His wife explained "In spanis, it is daughter." Sad DZ. Never forget
That was a touching video, my grandfather recently lost his battle to the disease. As with your father we watched him dwindle from an outstanding manto shell of what he once was, but like you said in the ending I knew he was still there and i felt him everytime i saw him until those last days in the hospital. thank you for sharing this story.
Thank you so much for this video. I am a geri-psych nurse and although I say everyday how horrible of a disease Alzheimer's is, I often forget and separate myself. Thank you!
Thank you for your video, my grandma is having the early stage of Alzheimers, this kinda help me to prepare myself. Your dad is such a lovely old man! wish him all the best in the heaven.
Thank you for this. I am doing a performance based on alzheimers, my own personal expeience of watching my grandfather vanish. I am using your video to introduce to the company the face of the illness so they understand. Your video says so much more than anything else I have read and seen.
I know that making this video and showing it to the world must have been hard. Do know that through this video, you have educated others to a better understanding this horrible disease that robs individuals and families.
this is a great video illustrating exactly what a person that has alzheimer feels, but mostly what the family goes through...a teacher of mine has alzheimer...he was an architect...now he can't go out by himself...:(
This disease is becoming a social epidemic. With our average lifespans exceeding our late 70's, it will only get worse. Awareness is crucial, thank you for sharing this with us.
My grandpa is showing early signs...I this is a great way to share your loving memories of your father with the rest of the world so his memory will touch and live on with others.
i have watched this movie about 30 times now, And this is by far the best "mini" ducumentary on youtube. Your father seems like the best dad you can ever have. I wish my dad was like him. god bless you. //A Swedish Fan
thanks for your replye Chris. Well if i wont be able to see it here in Europe you must promise me that i can buy a copy of it from Canada. now you see. i am here again. this is like the 40th time i have watched this, and i still love it. i cant stop crying when i see your dad gives you a hug when he is in that bed in the end. God bless
Dear Chris, your video brought me to tears. I thank you for such a personal and honest potrait of Alzheimer's. Your father seemed like an amazing person, and I have great respect for you and your family. Take care.
Magnetrition, like nutrition, a collection of learned responses to poor or inadequate health conditions due to a deficiency of biological requirements Osteoporosis menopause and cancer are the result of inadequate movement in a magnetic field, and recognize as a symptom of inadequate circulation within the cells of our body, which occurs due to the immobility of magnetically migrating organelles Observed as poor health and even death in the bird egg, infant, average person of 70, and astronaut.
This video is truly heartwrenching. My grandmother has the disease and I work with Alzheimer's patients. It is so hard to watch a person regress so much in a short time
This video is so hard to watch, my mom is going through this disease and has been for 9 years...she was diagnosed at age 58. Thanks for sharing this video.
My mother died in October 2006 from Alzheimer's. I was her primary caregiver for 7 years. This video has brought back so many memories to me. Things that I had thought I would forget. We need to stop this disease, not only for them, but for the caregivers. It's taken me this long to finally start to recover. Thanks for this video.
This documentary could not have been more perfect! I just recently did a presentation about Alzheimer's disease and showed this video to help students understand the effects of Alzheimer's! Thank you for sharing!
thank you thank you thank you for this documentary... i cant stop crying watching this video. you are an amazing person, and so was your father. god bless you all!!
Hi I lost my mum to this disease in March this year 2008. She battled with it for 8 years..She lost her power of speech but I knew she knew me.
This disease robbed me of my Mum turning her into a woman I didn't know, watching her fade slowly from everyone's life was heart breaking, watching her trying to cope with the disease was also heart breaking. I miss her so much...
this video touched me so much, it was nice to see someone else going through what we are. what really amazed me is the music, my father in law doesn't remember the women he was married to for over 50 years but he can remember every song he has ever heard. And claps to the beat of songs he has never heard. A friend of mine named Matt Jenkins wrote a beautiful song called "I'll remember for you" I did a slide show of dad with it and recorded Matt singing it. Check them out. Thank you again.
Thank you for sharing this video. I just lost my Dad to early onset Alzheimer's one month ago (he was 61 when he passed) and your documentary couldn't depict the wretched journey Alzheimer's takes people on; not only the person suffering from it, but their family as well. This video brought tears to my eyes because I know EXACTLY what you went through. My deepest sympathy to you and your family--your Dad was clearly loved and for that, he must have been an amazing person. Thank you again
Thanks for the message, I am really sorry about your loss, this is a shorter version of a feature Documentary i am making right now and have sold it to a Canadian broadcaster, but I am trying to sell it to PBS. I will iet you know.
My grandmother has Alzheimer's, and this was a really...detailed, gentle way to help her understand the disease after she forgot what it was. This video also helped me show my eleventh grade class the effects of Alzheimer's. This is an amazingly sweet, thoughtful documentary- thank you so much for sharing it with the world.
Wonderful, wonderful job on this! You truly captured it all from beginning to end, and I can tell your father was a great man. It is so unfortunate that such kind and life-loving people get this disease, and it is really hard to understand this disease until your loved one is affected by it, but you have given everyone a little more insight.
This was outstanding. It's what I've been looking for. Your documentation of his progress is amazing. My husband's been early stage but he's progressing. He begs me to stop it, and I think I thought I could. I know I cant now, and I've imagined ways out for both of us. At least you've shown that you all are still alive in spite of it all. My husband swears he'll never forget me. So now I've seen the picture of what happens when he does.
So sorry for your loss. My sincere condolances. Thank you for the insight to what a family goes through during the stages of this dibilatating disease. God Bless!
thank for this video...it really touched me. I have recently become a caregiver for Alzheimer's in a residence. I have been reading about a lot of experiences...you're definitely stood out.
Thank you for sharing this most personal event in your life. My father was diagnosed with AD 2 years ago and we placed him in a home May 07. He walked in, but is now in a wheel chair- He just had his 84th birthday. My heart goes out to you. Next week I'm consulting with his Dr to use marijuana for treatment, and I would encourage anyone who's family member is suffering with this disease to do some research. I will be posting about it's effects and how he fares, so long as we're able to get *it*
I also wanted to mention that I can understand just how difficult it is for you to even watch this video, let alone sharing it with the world. I commend your efforts and I'd like to add that your father seemed like such a great man, I'm sure he was. Sometimes the sadness I feel for my own father overwhelms me at 45, but I wanted you to know that this is about your father and that my comment above with regard to marijuana treatment was meant to give hope for a nearly hopeless disease.
thank you for sharing your story of your dad,.our family is dealing witht the same thing but with our mother.we had to put her in a facility yesterday, as her legs gave out,and she went down and broke her ankle,, its hardest on dad, not having his partner of almost 60 yrs, next to him in bed at night,he's 84,,its not easy.
I worked with them for years and it would anger me so much children would give up. Good for your family, it's becoming a stage in many people's lives and we need awareness.
wow.. that was really tough. You managed to get some tears from me. That was a great documentary. Keep it up. You did such a great job and you have an amazing father who raised his son right.
That brought back some frighting memories.. I remember my grandmother doing the exact same thing with the fork, picking up no food, and freaking out and going stiff, and also the depression....
Amazing video, thanks for sharing the whole experience.. it really made me cry... wonderful for you to have the complete progression of the disease...great way to remember him and to show his grandsons how was grandpa....
Your dad is a remarkable man. I fell in love with him with your video. One thing is for sure too, he raised a remarkable son. You are awesome for making that video about your dad.
I believe that my grandmother is starting to develop "early" stages of Alzheimer's and this video has defenitaly given me some great eye openers for what is yet to come. Thank you every so much! Annabel
You have shared a precious and private memory which has helped me see what I am about to go through. My Dad has just been diagnosed. It gave me clarity and peace to know how to help, love and go on. May his memory and honor live on thorugh you and his beautiful granddaughter! Lynn - North Carolina USA
This brings tears to my eyes... Both of my grandparents on my mum's side both have severe Alzheimer and to know what they once were and to see how deteriorated they are is devastating.. I look at my parents now and pray that this horrible condition doesn't ever effect them.

As with your father we watched him dwindle from an outstanding manto shell of what he once was, but like you said in the ending I knew he was still there and i felt him everytime i saw him until those last days in the hospital. thank you for sharing this story.

this is a great video illustrating exactly what a person that has alzheimer feels, but mostly what the family goes through...a teacher of mine has alzheimer...he was an architect...now he can't go out by himself...:(

This disease is becoming a social epidemic. With our average lifespans exceeding our late 70's, it will only get worse. Awareness is crucial, thank you for sharing this with us.

Thank you again

wow, excuse my typo--I meant to say couldn't depict the journey BETTER than you did with this video--sorry about that.

You are very kind to share this with everyone.

Thanks :)
