when i listen to this song, i feel transported to anther dimension ,feel weightless floating in the atmosphere above you all , detached from all my problems and daily routine ,relaxed ahhh! only the cocteau twins can make feel this way.
When we listen to Cocteau Twins , every fiber of our being is being nurished. It's like my insides are swaying back and forth to the music . Listening is similar to witnessing or experiencing the beauty of nature at it's finest moments. The melodies are gorgeous and Liz's voice goes right through me, and I feel it, phisically.I can't imagine a world, void of Cocteau Twins! If these songs were paintings, they would be worth millions and hung in the greatest museums on the planet! The Sound of love.
Thought I would never find this song again. I remember hearing this years ago on a friend of mine's cassette of the album. Of course I didn't remember the name of song. I been a fan of CT since Heaven or Las Vegas. One of the most beautiful sounding bands of all time. Also this is Prince's favorite CT song.
@halation777 Equating the music with sex is the easy reaction. Sex is powerful and one of the great joys of life, sure, but I think this art transcends that.
I feel this album directly influenced MBV's "Loveless" album. That record certainly has its own merits, but it doesn't come close to the brilliance and euphoria of Blue Bell Knoll. This song exemplifies everything I love about the Cocteau Twins.
Tame your fall sawmill. You see you sitting strong all day. We stay your long sawmill. We flick a flick all by a spa. Soon as the stars get copied, lay down the law. All run to run run run run run.
the thing i really appreciate about liz is that she's not really white-bread at all, she doesn't sound like a girl group singer in her phrasing, she has a very soulful delivery... i'm a major R&B fan and she fits in with that in my mind somehow..
The songt is great. The band is great. This video sucks. Too bad talented people have to impose their political beliefs on the art they share. Love the Cocteau Twins. Hate snooty artist types.
@FeFe3O4 I like the video. Fuzzy images of the band, blurry, out of focus, into focus, soft focus. I think it suits the song perfectly. A little more color would have been good though.
Their music will be immortalized when they already on the other side of life... Shit... Feels like my soul is departing from my body whenever i listen to their music... i hope they will reunite and collab with also one of heaven's send musicians Thom Yorke. if that happens, its the end of the world for all of us...
showing my age, but remember the first showing of this video in July 1988 on a Channel 4 music programe late one Friday evening, seeing the Cocteau Twins on tv was a rare treat, still rate this as one of thier best songs!
Incredible sound! Amazing, magical & comforting! The whole band was fabulous, but the multi-octave incorporation of Liz' voice in this song remains spelling!
It is very hard to find the right words to describe how amazing and unique this band is. I am a big fan of CT for 20+ years. I felt priviliged being from Venezuela that they fell in my hands. Many of their songs are especial to me. This one in particular has to me the BEST voice/guitar combination EVER right from 2:25 to 2:40 Those 15 seconds, preluded by the majestic/superb guitar from 2:03, are just pure Gold. That combination will never be heard again... Thx bluebelljp from Venezuela.
Thanks be to John Peel i think, i saw Pink Orange Red on tv and just got blown away, been a fan ever since, i have to say this is one of my favs just beautiful, makes you forget all the hardship
First song I ever heard by Cocteau Twins was "Carolyn's Fingers." Heard it on the radio, wrote down the name of the band ("Cockatoo Twins"), bought the CD a few weeks later during a trip home from college. Listened to it on my dad's awesome sound system and my jaw hit the floor. After five life-changing tracks, I figured it couldn't get any better -- then "Cico Buff" came on, followed by "Suckling the Mender," and I just about lost my mind. This band is nothing less than a gift from God.
Found them by accident in a musicians' magazine here in L.A. back in 1987. Liked the name so decided to go buy their tape cassette or CD......imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when I put that thing in the tape player....sends me....absolutely sends me... :o
I saw this video on Channel 4's 'Wired' in 1988 and a twenty-year love affair began. Mark Cooper, in his review that year of Blue Bell Knoll for Q Magazine summed it up best: This warm bath of a record is a sensual invitation to wallow in an opiate haze of drifting melody, echoed voices and a slowed, almost processional, beat... When you die and then open your eyes, if there isnt music something like playing in the distance, youre probably on your way to the wrong place.
In my dreams Liz comes walking towards me on the street,& when it suddenly hits me that it is HER walking towards me, i get locked up in her eyes..& suddenly it's so hard for me to figure out which side of her i should walk by,& as expected i completely freeze in front of her& she bursts into a laugh,& in my total awkwardness i say "Thank you"..next scene i'm phucking her like a freak that's just been released from a Siberian prison! (1st Scene:authentic dream)
i actually understand your reaction Hirsute63. I guess if i'd used the word "shagged" instead of that unpleasant F-word,your reaction would've been somewhat different. My bad! Next time i will know better.Doesn't mean that i won't have naughty fantasies about Liz Fraser though! And NO ma'am i don't believe i am a "dirty" man..i WISH i was but the truth is that i'm NOT. Perhaps someone in here should get used to the fact that even "nice" individuals can have "dirty" fantasies..for your own good!
Hey sorry if you took my comment the wrong way. I thought you were British, the comment "you dirrty ol maahhn" is from a famous comedy show called Steptoe and Son. I didn't mean to imply you were dirty as in pervy. I'm envious of you having had a dream where you had sex with Liz! "You LUCKY man" more like :O)
Thanks for the explanation. Yeah, misunderstanding do occur rather often on these online communities, and they can sometimes turn into annoying factors. Peace out. : )
It seems that many would love to ravage the being that is Liz Fraser. I'm a man of color and I dig her big time. After intense lovemaking she could serenade me. Heck! In the passionate moments she'd be singing and creating soundscapes unimaginable.
Sweet melancholy. Oh i adore Cocteau Twins, still have most of their albums and those beautiful 12" on vinyl.... 23 envelope,4AD,Cocteau Twins. Will be with me forever.
I didn't "get" this album for the longest time. Then one day I played it again and this song in particular reduced me to tears, out of the blue, for no apparent reason other than it just hit me somewhere between the brain and the heart.
Space and time and infinite quantum physics cant measure beauty in all of its forms. Human voice and melody. Simple. Seductive. Engaging. Otherworldly. Time travel beyond our imaginations. The power of music.
