  • Anyone else notice Albert don't know the words to the song in church? LOL Shame

  • kinda reminds me of when dobby hid the letters in Harry potter....

  • How many of you would have taken that money AND those letters? lol

  • Ooh wow i love this part so much! Probably my fave in the movie. Terrible husband of Celie hid all those letters from her! Oh well, worse case scenario, those letters could've been burned. Love the way the letters send chills on me. :D

  • @TomboyCactus101 Yeah people always wondered why didn't he just burn them or get rid of them instead of hiding them. And I always thought, maybe deep down was because it was guilt. That he knew he was wrong for taking Nettie away from Celie. Like she points out to him later, that he knew she was the only somebody in the whole world who loved her, so he hid those letters to hurt her more, when really, he was just hurting himself until he did right by her.

  • @ChicagoTyme2 Yes! or.... maybe since Mister was just a lazy slob, maybe he just didn't know how to light a fire lol. Since he can't even shave on his own hehe. But then again, Celie needs those letters so i take that back. XD

  • I just realized something. Since Nettie and the adopted father of Celie's kids got married, wouldn't that make Nettie their auntie/mama? SMH There was A LOT of incest going on in this movie!!! LMAOOOOOO I still love it, though!

  • It was like Celie had won the lottery when she found all those letters/

  • @myuhdidas yea escpically since the woman looks white lolol.

  • Does anybody know what is in those little bottles @ 3:44?

  • @ZachEJT24 I think maybe paint, nothing important though.

  • i love how she shoves the manikin lol Miss Celie's growing a back bone :)

  • "this dont look nothing like me. d-mn him!" LOL!!

  • I am actually surprised he even bothered to save the letters. Why did he do that? Not that I am on his side, but putting myself in his shoes, I would have just burned them.

  • @BreezesofConey i think it shows that he kinda has a heart or is somewhat considerate but was raised to be the way he is (look at his pops). idk. good ? tho.

  • Why did they put that cat there?

  • Someone knows the title of the song the old man sings at 7:50?

  • Ayo, those giraffes running look like a lion king scene, :)

  • She saw the spider and lifted up the floor board where it was...........i would have ran

  • Ahs gettin real tired of this cat!! lol

  • So if you saw a scary spider coming out of the floor, you would open it? I WOULDN'T!

  • LOL at the old porn pictures!

  • It may just be me, but if a spider as big as my face jumped out of a hole, i would most likely hesitate to stick my fingers in it.

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh spider

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh spider omg that is so scary

  • Lol @ albert's nude pics of white girls. and shug's response: "they don't look nothing like me... damn him."Lmao

  • I love that Nettie taught Celie how to read... It has kept that bond between them even stronger!

  • ;)

  • That spider would have scared the shit out of me....

  • The scene between Celie and Shug is so powerful and sweet. She basically gave Celie the best gift you can ever give a person -Hope.

  • @Duma39 yes she did.

  • (continued from previous post) Celie being brought that first letter, and reading it with Shug, and the two of them subsequently finding all the other letters always makes me weep like a schoolgirl (despite being a 48-year-old man). A sequence of directorial beauty by Spielberg, stellar performances by Mmes. Avery and Goldberg, and gorgeous scoring by Quincy Jones.

  • Suge: I's gettin real tired of this cat.

    Cat: Yarrrrrroooww!!!!!

    LMFAO!!

  • One thing I do wonder about this film is how come Celie was so concentrated on her two kids with Pa but never speaks of or appears to care for all the kids she had with Mr.

  • @DevilShroom Well I don't believe those were biological kids. Remember at the very beginning of the movie, Mr says to the children this here is your new mammy and one of the kids yells out she ain't none of my mammy. That's why at the dinner she told the kids they were rotten and they made her life a hell.

  • Yea that's right because in the book after Celie bears her pa's two kids, she wasn't able to have any more

  • @DevilShroom That's true, I just assumed she never had kids with him, but then, that doesn't explain of the appearance of all the random little kids always running around....

  • @DevilShroom Probably because as she put it, "they was rotten kids"... I wouldnt care for them or speak of Mister's kids either if he beat me, they weren't my biological kids, and I had kids of my own...... Remember, the first day Celie arrived, Harpo hit her in the head with a rock......

  • I wonder why Mister kept those letters. He could just thrown them away or burned them if he really wanted to prevent them from ever hearing from each other again.

  • @cocoapeach Well maybe all the time there was an ounce of heart inside of him, that could be why he sent for Netty and Celie's children. The small ounce of heart turned into something big.

  • @honeegrrl or it was about power... and being able to hold something over her ... hope just out of reach.

  • @cocoapeach Yeah, I wondered the same thing. I'm surprised he kept them.

  • I LOVE the part where Celie & Shug find all the letters from Nettie!!! <3

  • Thank God her sister had a good life..plus her kids are with her

  • i have been watching this movie for as long as i can remember, and it is by far one of my favorites. BUT, i just read the book, and WOW its uhhhh pretty graphic....

  • Where the hell did that cat come from 0-o

  • Those letters have Salisbury Rhodesia stamp on them...that's Zimbabwe!

  • THIS IS SO DAMM SAD

  • I thought she left wen she found out he took her letter?? although it has been a while since i last read the book.

  • Nettie is alive with her children!!! Ohh I cried...

  • funny her sister was always in the same dress cand nevr loked a day older.....

  • fucken white ppl!(nd im a qaurter white!!)

    :P

  • After reading the letters it's almost like she found strength. And the fear was no longer there because she knew that there was someone out there who still loved her unconditionally...

  • lmfao! @ the 1900's porn

  • @MsTruthseeker2009

    lol!!!!

  • i wish i had shug as my friend ♥ her!!!

  • Albert's hope chest at 2:46- Porn, porn, Bible, porn, porn, porn, empty box, porn, porn...

  • @ExplorerDS6789 And more porn at 3:38. What a sick bastard.

  • @delirous8 because it said in the letter that shug got out of the mail box that she had been writing for years so they just assumed he had them hidden

  • The chain gang scene @ 7:46 is very moving to me...

  • 8:23

ha ha their hats are funny

  • @Smael64 the are called fez

  • someone please catch me on but how did Celie and Shug knew that Mister was hiding the letters,i watched this movie a lot and still could not figure it out

  • The stamp is a Mangbetu Chief stamp. YouTube won't let me post a link to it, but the website I saw this on is: "Linns dot com" . Then type in "Belgian Congo 148" in the search bar top right of the screen, hit search and click on the first link "Finding history in the affordable stamps of Belgian Congo". The stamp should be the 6th one down on the left side of the screen

  • @DorkTheNerdInvader1

The stamp that is shown @ 4:01 is what I'm referring to.

  • i'm currently reading possessing the secret of joy by alice walker, it about Tashi, has anyone else read it?

its good, and interesting to know more about tashi :)

  • is it jus me or was Shug dress badd as hell.. (in a good way)..

  • why doesn't shug's father dosnt speak to her???

    would appreciate a response.

  • @joeyyo5 He was a minister .She had sex with different men, sang at nightclubs, wore sexy outfits and cosmetics. He also taught her music and song. She was in his chuch choir. He still loved her but he felt she had disgraced and betrayed him

  • @3piper Thank you

  • @3piper how'd u know that he wasn't even in the book

  • @Smael64 I know Shug was married, and he didn't seem part of the family,he seemed out of place,so I thought that was him

  • @Smael64 Sorry,i got mixed up on another character. He was her father. She called him daddy and later on they reunited in his church

  • @joeyyo5 her lifestyle choices... becoming a singer, having children out of wedlock...

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone know who are the black women on the stamps?

  • ewww did you see that spider at 3:10

  • ok. celie's children are not in bred.. he daddy ,not her daddy! he daddy turns out to be her step daddy they say towards the end of the movie..

  • "I'ze getting real tired of this cat"

    LMAO

  • Thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • take the money and move north of the Ohio River

  • what's the songs name at 8.33?

  • @perezjdesi you racist asshole get a fucking life you LOSER!!!!!!

  • Was that drugs she pulled up outta the floor? The little vials of stuff. Hmmmm.

  • nettie is her sister and yes its her kids and sister at end

  • i am such a retard, is nettie her sister or daughter??????????. are the people at the end her kids and her sister ?? or is it just her kids??????

  • Omg I was SO SCARED when I saw the coat and the hat I just cannot stand those scenes where someone is doing something secretive and the other person might find out and catch them anytime IT KILLS ME! What an awesome movie. :)

  • oh this beginning part made me cry...

  • im srry i wasn't really paying much attention but who is "sweet Correen"?

  • Corrine is the adopted mother of Celie's children. Celie had the children in her teens by her father(in the book it is discovered this is her step father.) At first Celie thinks her father killed the the children at birth, but he sold them to Reverend Samuel and his wife Corrine(They couldn't have children of their own).

  • I would've took the money as well as the letters.

  • Lol, I was thinking that too!

  • @holywomen lol, hell why not after all that abuse and rape everynight, it wouldn't be near half of what he'd owe me.

  • @PrincessofCheap I think it is symbolizing how the letters are worth more to her than money.

  • @PrincessofCheap but celie never would've done that

  • @PrincessofCheap I would've too :) ...unless it was MY little sister the letters were from... in comparison to what those letters mean to her, the money is worth absolutely nothing... I think that's why they put the money there, to show how her love for her sister is beyond anything material... all the money in the world is irrelevant, the only thing she has eyes for are those letters :) (merry christmas!)

  • I don't understand how Celie all of a sudden has all this free time to read Nettie's old letters...

  • @MissLeigh78

watch the movie. you didn't see her, reading in church, reading in the fields. reading everywhere.

  • it's crazy cuz the woman who plays nettie is actually a native ghanan-ashanti princess! that's crazy!

  • @7:50. what type of music is this?

  • @ebonyrose316266 i think it's just to keep them in rhythm to have the workers operate in unison, sort of like how the military have their men sing "songs" to keep them in unison step when marching and jogging

  • it's not music, it's more of a way they would sing along with their work to keep a synchronized rhythm; kind of traditional, in a sense, and it helped get the job done more enjoyably, lol

  • you all must read the people who could fly its sssooo sad

  • celie's kids adam and olivia were inbred

  • Comment removed

  • No, she also finds out the man she thought was her Dad was not. Her real Dad was lynched. So at least she doesn't have that worry, but its still as traumatic as genetic incest becuase as a child she didn't know.

  • No in the book the father of Cellie's children was her step-father

  • even if they are, they deserve the right to live as long as they were born into this world

we are all inbreeds in someway because all humans share 99.9999....% of our DNA

  • you are very all right "1989DaVinci",you are very all right. For instance,I am a white person, with a very white skin, light brown hair and green eyes, but,at the same time,I have among my ancestors black persons, like the majority of the white people of my native country (Cuba)

    Greetings and good luck....

  • @ChloeRocks11 actually Cellie finds out later that it wasn't her real dad. Thus, they wern't inbred.

  • @ChloeRocks11 no they wasn't their father was Celie's step dad that doesn't make Celie and him related!!!!!!

  • ♥sooo sad♥

  • The letters said more in the Book.......

  • I <3 this scene with all my heart but i get real creeped out when the spider comes out. Arachnophobic...I know :)

  • This

  • I love the way Nettie's letters take Celie away from her world...the scene with the pots and falling rain turning into the children playing the xylophone, for example...it was great!

And the way Mr.___hid the letters underneath a loose panel...it was hidden from sight. I might be reading into this too much, but I felt like it was symbolic of the bond Nettie and Celie had as sisters...that nothing could ever separate them or the love they had for each other.

  • @bookiee8 You're definitely not reading into that too much.

  • @bookiee8 Don't worry, it's a very good point.

  • @bookiee8 agree.

  • remember the person she has kids with isnt her biological father...its her step father. Her real father is dead.

  • that hymn is Boss.

  • This scene is very touching, the words from Nettie's letter are so moving. This scene always makes my cry, actually I am crying right now, while I am writing this message. Every now and then, a great movie comes along, that really stands for something, and this one surely does and then some, it such a great work of the black and also human experience. I need more tissues, my nose is running! Whoopi and OPrah sure acted their asses off in this!Great job girls!

  • 3:09 is that real?

  • so after olivia and adam, she still have more kids with albert right?

doesn't she love her children come after the first 2?

  • no she didn't have more kids

  • @eViL1686 sadly no. Her last birth tore her up too bad inside so she can't bear children. That's why Albert so freely rapes her without worry of pregnancy

  • She never had any children with him, they were from a previous relationship

  • They were from her step-father who repeatedly raped her as a child

  • @eViL1686

no olivia and adam are the kids from celie and her father!!!!

he took the kids away and celie never saw them again!

    after that, she married albert!!!!

    I think I am right... Sorry if there's a mistake :)

  • no it was her father, you must read the book!

  • Danny Glover plays such a great sonofabitch in this movie. That is the quality of a good actor.

  • lmfao i SOOO agree!!! funny way of putting it but right on point!

  • it wasn't her father it was her step father that raped her it tells u when her step father dies

  • Thats so sad all those years and earlier in the movie when Harpos wife hadnt seen her children in 8 years that woman said I dont know him or her and made her go and not spend the day with her children. Those times were crazy

    2K

  • ok so she had 2 kids...who was their father...

  • her father was the father of the 2 kids...remember in the opening scene of the movie?

  • her dad rapes her, she says so herself that she had two kids by her father in part 1

  • her father

  • @yasmeenxox celies dad raped her, so its her dads kids too

  • @maeesther1 turned out not her dad..her real daddy died in battle.

  • black spiders always a sign of good luck

  • @queenlikeme103 I've never heard that before!!!!!!

  • the letter is sooooo emotional. its making me cry! :) so beautiful!

  • No. You just have to have a heart.

  • no you just have to be ignorant to write dumb shit on youtube. its rare that black people are portrayed in films as human beings who love, cry hurt, and feel. usually were playing some stereotypical role limited to dancing singing, or being b bafoons. this movie causes you to stretch your perception of black people. thats the real reason you cant cry. your mind is too small.

movies in general these days arent as good as this one. and seeing blacks loving on screen is like beyond rare.

  • And drug dealers, pimps, hip hop stars, thugs, gangsters, basketball players, arrogant sex crazed soprts players, crackheads, abusers, robbers of all things.

  • amen!

  • you are right blksophisticado1!

  • @mistahjoey no you don't have to be black to cry watching a movie you just have to have a heart!!!!!!!!

  • @mistahjoey ignorant-ass fool

  • poor cat...lol

  • I's gettin' real tired of this cat. LOL!

  • did you watch the movie part by part?

    O.O

i felt the same way -_-

  • i luv this movie with all my good heart! it makes me cry everytime i watch it, whether on here or on BET.

  • 7:50-8:17 thats one of my favorite parts in this film
