  • "I'm not much of a Crusader but at least I'm not a Mohammedan"

    Brilliant!

    Long live Chesterton!

    Long live the Crusades!

  • His voice distracts for a while from the significance of his presence, just as one becomes gradually aware of a very great weight coming through his light and sometimes intolerable style.

  • "If after all my Atheology turns out wrong and your Theology right I feel I shall always be able to pass into Heaven (if I want to) as a friend of G.K.C.'s. Bless you."

    - HG Well's in a letter to GK Chesterton

  • everyone should read his books

  • He's buried a few miles from where I live, and I've been to his grave before.

  • I just noticed he is carrying two walking sticks, as he points out in his book WHAT I SAW IN AMERICA

  • Woah! Woah! Woah! FOOTAGE OF CHESTERTON?!?!?!?!

  • also read an author heavily influenced by Chesterton, J.R.R. Tolkien. Read Lord of the Rings, then read Tolkien's essays, and understand the term 'eucatastrophe'

  • yes, read ORTHODOXY, and/or HERETICS, and THE EVERLASTING MAN.

  • Absolutely! Start with Joseph Pearce's excellent biography of Chesterton called "Wisdom & Innocence.

  • Hi all,

I just thought that you might like to know that the college that G K. Chesterton is visiting in this video happens to be the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA . He was here 80 years ago on December 9, 1930. If you look to the right of the stage you can see a man in a white toga- he is portraying Virgil or Homer. During Chesterton's visit a few students dressed as important authors. They included Virgil, Homer, Shakespeare and Cervantes

  • I just finished Chesterton's masterpiece Orthodoxy, and recently read another one of his masterpieces, The Everlasting Man. What a profound and insightful thinker and outstanding apologist for the Christian faith. I cannot wait to meet him in Heaven! Happy New Year, everyone :)

  • Thats funny, he doesn't sound quite like I had imagined.

  • same, i thought his voice would have been scruffier, if you know what i mean

  • Just read"The Everlasting Man."He makes things so obvious and simple.

  • Interesting. Got to know more about GKC on EWTN 's "Disciple of Common Sense" as a Catholic apologist.

    thx for posting

  • That´s the man who was sunday.

  • ha ha ha

  • Is the newsreel of GKC available for purchase?

  • Pathe Films has it. It costs around $500 to get a high quality copy, and I don't think it comes with sound. I got the sound from a guy in Canada who got it from a different news agency in GB (I don't know which one).

I think it may also appear in Dale Alquist's GKC film which you can buy at his website. Google him.

  • Chesterton has gotten me through my life if, via nothing else, his lucid comment, "I think I shall not hang myself today." And amazing and amusing man.

  • Have you put out the CD?

  • Yep, it's available now not only on CD, but it's already starting to show up as MP3 downloads at various online distributers such as iTunes where you can get each of the four tracks for a dollar each. And I want to make it clear to everybody that I'm keeping these tracks in the public domain, so you can copy the CD for friends or use the tracks in documentaries or whatever for free.

  • What year was this?

  • May 1st, 1931.

  • So that's what he sounded like. Thank you for the upload!

  • Due to popular demand, I'm planning on coming out with a CD containing all four of the Chesterton recordings in their entirety. This will likely be in about 2-weeks. Thanks for your comment.

  • "...but at least I am not a Muhammadan"

    Chesterton should be beatified.

  • Well at least he was given the official designation of "Defender of the Faith", and from what I understand there are very few people the Catholic Church has ever bestowed that upon.

  • Great comment!

  • what a joy to find a recording of his voice so find me now before its too late

  • Glad you enjoyed it.

I'll also be uploading four recordings of his friend Hilaire Belloc within the next hour.

  • Es en extremo agradable escuchar su voz después de leerlo por 6 años. Ojalá hubieran más grabaciones en internet. Gracias

  • wow! ..amazing, thanks :)

  • OUTSTANDING! Just a gem of a find (especially to hear his voice!)

    THANK YOU!

  • Thank you for posting this video. I love the author and specially the book "The "Man who was thursday". Do you know if there is any movie adaptation of the book? Thank you.

  • I think there have been a couple of stage plays but no movies that I recall. Some of his other stories have been shot for film though.

  • The Man Who Was Thursday was dramatized by Orson Welles for the radio. You can get it for free on the Orson Welles radio podcast on iTunes!

  • You can listen to it for free here too.

  • I believe that G.K. Chesterton is my favorite Author of all time---I was introduced to him through Larry Norman (known as the Father of Christian Rock)---

I love "The Man Who Was Thursday"---and "MANALIVE"..plus "Father Brown" was good also----oh and there are just so many more!!

It was so cool to be able to see this video---thank you for posting it!! :0)

  • Outstanding!

  • Love his writing! I wish common sense was still popular.

  • He is just as witty in person as in his writing. The two don't always coincide. A genius, and a breathtakingly gorgeous writer. He makes the English language sound like music!

  • This is fantastic! Thank you! What a brilliant and inspiring man.

  • Gracias por el video, Chesterton es lo máximo.

  • Gracias por el video, Chesterton es lo máximo.

  • Thank you so much for putting this up! :) G.K.C. is absolutely brilliant.

  • Wonderful. This little clip has made my day! Thanks.

  • I have to thank you (dear 'dmginformation') for this very great honour (of seeing G.K.C), and I do it with all my heart (and I'm not crusader, also):)

  • Grazie! Grazie mille!

  • Le vostre migliaia benvenute!
