  • Having read all the comments here I laughed at how there seemed so many opinions abut what it is. I looked myself as I do like the piece and I was looking to know what it is. But I then found it and found a third Pathetique. But what I found was definetly correct. It is Beethoven Sonata no. 8 Pathetique - 1st Movement in C minor. I also found it in a snipet in the film "Judgement at Nurenberg". Thanks for your comments.

  • @Masbirreo the sheet music can be found in the 'Living in the Past' songbook but it's incomplete and likely simplified (if my aural memory is correct)

  • 7:50! HAHA AWESOME!!!!! piano and then BAM BAM BAM WOOOHOO

  • There are two "Pathetiques". This one is Beethoven's (first movement). Look them up and listen to them.

  • You are right, he does use extracts from the Pathetique. However, it was composed by Beethoven!

  • Wrong way round. The Pathetique Symphony was composed by Tchaikovsky. This is based on (amongst other things) the Pathetique Sonata, by Beethoven.

  • Great fun... This song...

  • Fun Song! I'm old now but in high school I bought the sheet music to this song and played it in a piano recital... It was so much fun to play and pretty close to this original.

  • This piece is know as "By Kind Permission Of" because Evans borrowed parts from classical composers who are not in a position to grant permission to perform them. He borrowed from Rachmaninov "Prelude in C sharp minor," Beethoven "Sonate no. 8" and Debussy's "Golliwog's Cakewalk." Thanks for posting this classic for classics!

  • Ian Anderson is a musical genius~~~I have an old LP of him performing with the Philharmonic orchestra. His music is so stunning and extraordinary....and with the orchestra.....simply dazzling. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece with me Mark. Bravisimo!

  • I always loved this one. It's so unique, you can't find something like that in the whole Tull catalogue. I'm glad they played stuff like that in the first years.

  • @marktull You are correct in naming all the pieces. My son has played them all. I would love to find the sheet music for this song!

P.S. This IS the Beethoven Pathetique 1st movement. (Not the Tchaikovsky.)
