the phantom...is my all-time favorite fighter jet......the only jet to be used by the thunderbirds and the blue angels at the same time......the only jet that was used by all branches of US services.......I was in the army during desert storm.....and it was the last real combat role they had.......mainly air national guard units were asigned them by that time.....long live the f-4!!!!!

@humbleradio Sorry I forgot to mention the Air Force. I even guarded their tank farm of JP4 fuel in Cam Rahn Bay. We also got to use their BX which was heaven to us in the Army. We would not have survived without the Air Force. The whole mess was a joint effort of all branches. Hats off to all who served.

I work in Memphis tn with an F4 pilot who shot down four over Vietnam and was shot down himself and lost his weapons officer who he went through flight with...Thomas Hurst is his name...he is the one who sparked my interest....thanks for the vid!!!!
As a kid, I used to watch these bad asses take off and land at Kelly AFB back in the early 70's. It was awesome to watch two take off side by side. This vid brings back nice memories., thanks!
@SpnOptimus2011 the method (launch bridle) used to attatch the Phantom to the catapult shuttle is shown from about 1:34-1:40. In common with quite a number of previous aircraft, a "Bridle" made of steel cable was run from two points inboard and aft of the intakes, forward to the shuttle.

@fidoshark Nope, both built by different companies. But I sorta see where you coming from. Lockheed built the F-104 (short range interceptor like the E.E Lightning and MiG-21) and McDonnell built the F-4. For the origins of the F-4 look up McDonnells previous fighters like the F3H Demon and F-101 Voodoo. Both are seen together along with the prototype F4H-1 at 1:24, the Demon on the left and the Voodoo to the right. Hope this helps.

The F-4 started had difficult against MIG-17, MIG-15, because fighter had cannons. Then were necessary put on cannon in the F-4. Nothing missiles the F-4 were easy tagert to MIg's
