  • I was in Lahaina....doors started banging, and I said, "It's an earthquake." And it was. The ground was moving outside, hard to stand stably.

  • I will never forget this day, this is the same day when I found out that I was pregnant to our first child.

  • omg i was getting ready for church that morninnng ,

  • thats just two hawaiians jumpin on da bed.

  • ....FANTASTIC LUCKY CAMERAMAN...!!!

  • I remember this earthquake. I was in 5th grade. It was first one.

  • I was at this same place before this....would love to go back again....

  • i feel so sad of this to happen i wish it never happened but life is life. :(

  • that was originated off coast of kona i was on the big island and we got messed up too...i had no idea maui was that bad too damn earthquakes are scary shiit

  • LoL Ive been in the major earthquake in San Francisco 89 and in Mexico City.....that is a not even close to calling it an earthquake lol.....most likely it was taped far away from the epicenter cuz a 6.7 is a lot stronger than what the video shows

  • seriously? do your research and you WILL see there was a earthquake on this date. ask ANYONE in hawaii.

  • hard to tell if it's even real, the trees aren't even moving, I would know I've been through 2 major quakes in Los Angeles, and trees do move, besides that you don't even see one spec of dust rise from the ground, which also happens

  • @drakeneyez It depends from where you are filming from. This was filmed from where the dirt is mostly compacted (probably moist too). For the trees, Hana was about 100 miles away from the 6.7 earthquake epicenter. By that distance, the amount of energy that would have swayed the trees enough to be viewed through this video camera would've have been subsided. Items that are very sensitive to seismic waves (such as the plates and pots) indeed could be heard from the background.

  • @drakeneyez If you are still in doubt about this event taking place, you have my full verification that the earthquake did occur. I was awoken from the seismic waves arriving at my house at about 7:00 am, 10 miles away from the epicenter.

EDIT: Hana is 50 miles away from the epicenter. The records are saved in the USGS database.

  • I was in it, it did happen, and lasted about that long. We got nearly shaken out of bed, and then it was days before electricity came back to everybody. Bridges were damaged, roads were closed, etc., and stayed that way for a long time. But, it's part of living in Hawaii, and everybody takes it in stride. The only ones wearing the "I survived the earthquake" t-shirts were the tourists.

  • @hollyinhawaii oh my god dude you're making it sound like living in hawaii is dangerous, its probably safer than most places in the US

  • @HiMinds What?? You read it wrong. I was just trying to tell the ones saying the film was fake that it really did happen. I lived there for years until the economy forced a move...would go back in a heartbeat if I could. We loved it there, and yes, Maui is probably way safer than most any other places in the US.

  • Fake.

  • @liOVERLOADil agreed

  • I was just getting home from partying the night before and had just gotten home and fired up a doobie when this bad boy hit and it was WAY more intense than the quakes Maui usually gets. My fuckin roommate came flying out of his room thinking the house was gonna come down on us or that haleakala was erupting or some shit, I can't remember but it was hilarious. I think I wasn't scared because I was so tired/hung over/stoned so nothing short of a gun to the dome was gonna faze me.

  • great camerawork!

  • i thinks the palms had moved at least a bit if there had been a major earth quake

    dont wanna at anything....

  • I can verify that this is real.......I SHOT IT.

  • @nahokufestival Liar. You're just saying that to make people believe this crap.

  • All you idiots who think its a fake……check the news…it happened and this video is real. Get a life.

  • Was sleeping in Kihei when it hit. Scared the shee-aaat outta me.

  • I was on Maui for the second week of my honeyomoon during this earthquake. It was right around 7 AM our first morning and we had just made coffee....we had the mugs on the balcony table and then all of a sudden the sound was almost like a traing coming toward us and the shaking started it was pretty intense for a few seconds, enough to shake my coffee mug onto the floor. Unfortunatley this event closed the Hana Highway for several days and we were unable to experinece that. Oh well....

  • Wow. I just got back from Maui and passed those houses on the Road to Hana. My dad pointed them out saying Look at those houses. Theyre on stilts, do they have flash floods here?

  • the trees and tree limbs would be swaying, if it was real.

  • @conchman trees move only on "out of no where" quakes or massive 6.0+ you should watch /watch?v=J99VjkKaunA at about 0:45 seconds

this earthquake in Hawaii was at most a 5.0

  • @conchman It was real. I live here and felt it.

  • didnt seem like 47 seconds

  • Maui No Ka Oi - except maybe when theres an earthquake :) lol

The Friends at EUROTECH Stone & Tile Care

  • i was sleeping when this happened and i thought it was just a big long truck passing by my house. hahaha xD

  • Comment removed

  • thats not true you know

  • i live both in hawaii and thailand when the earthquakes happen

  • I think it is from the sun effect!

All this earthquakes that happened in Haiti, Chile, Turkey, Greece, Kosovo, Thailand, Hawai etc.

  • why trees NOT shaking?

  • I was there, it happened, so probly not fake.

  • i rember this..... i was sleeping.. nd its not fake where u there no so shut up!!!

  • Comment removed

  • oh i remember this quake! my closet was shaking and i thought my sister was kicking it cuz she was speeling by the closet. then my electricity went out lol

    ....then i vometed XD

  • haha, i remember that day. it was real. haha, had da hawaiian style, all relaxed and stuff. earthquake brah, take ya time. i no scared conflict. lol.

  • You can conspiracy theory all ya want about this but it happened. Why would a tourist (paying big $ for their room in Hana) make this up? I lived on the dry side of Waimea and will testify that at ~7AM it hit. I was ~2 miles from the epicenter, you feel that!! To the guy who said Hawaii shouldn't be having EQ's and that the volcano (really only one) would erupt first needs to go back to Geology 101.

  • Ah bullshit, a REAL 6.7 would've done more than that, a lot more!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i livin in hawaii when it happend

  • With that spelling they should expel you from the state

  • That seems real to me.. the rumbles of the quake match the camera shaking perfectly.. to match sounds with the shaking of the camera would take a very long time. I'll be visiting Hawaii this summer, cant wait!

  • damn i still remember that i shit mah pants during that...

  • cherry cherry boom boom

  • I remember that day. I was up in Paauilo when it happened. Took a few sliding glass doors off their tracks and knocked a bunch of things over, but no serious damage to the house. It was a hell of a way to wake up!

  • lol its fake dumbass...first look and i know its fake^^

first things first, why does the camera guy did not run?second,y is everything relax?

and the last..i dont see people going out from the house outside^^,

and also i cant see birds flying from the air..LOLxd

    ns try though:D

  • Back to the 2012 theory ...

Obviously u guys are going first ...

Cuz you shouldnt be having earthquakes ..

Your volcanos should errupt before that ...

  • i woke up like 10 sec. before the earthquake no joke

  • I was sleeping when that happened. Haha

  • FAKE! the palm fronds don't move and the surf (wave patterns) remain the same. nice try

  • well it wasnt a 9.0 lmao.

  • fake as hell.

  • Doesn't look fake to me.

  • O_O SCARY

  • This earthquake was huge! This video is clearly a fake. I was on the Big Island near the epicenter and the shaking was so violent I couldn't even stand.

On Maui, where this was supposedly filmed, the shaking was still pretty strong.

How anyone believes this is real is beyond me. There's no shaking in the footage. And the intro - where the newspaper is shaken back and forth - preludes the rest of the video. Fake, Fake, Fake.

  • Is'nt it funny the trees never shook?

  • Think its fake? my cousin called me 10 minutes after it happend, he was freaking out. i still remember that day.

  • me and ma granddad were on a golf course and first he noticed his ball fell off the tee and then the main wave hit and we just sat in the cart as it passed

  • You can see how the surface of the water changes when quake hits, I wish you didnt had changed the angle of teh camera!!, great vid.

  • My gosh! I had felt a little earthquake in Oahu! And yes, since it happened during morning... it scared the crap outta all of us... ):

  • no movement

  • because of all these shitty videos on youtube, you don't know what's real and what's fake anymore..

  • kinda felt it to lol. almost died from knife fall

  • i remeber that day. i was on Oahu and i was in my room and for some reason i woke up about 30 seconds before the earthquake hit. it was the first time i had ever felt an earthquake

  • what was your felling during the earthquake???

I feel really interested in your psycological adventure during it.

  • considering i was barely awake when it hit i it scared the crap out of me! it wasnt untill it was over when i realized it was an eathquake. everything in my room was shaking including the posters on my wall! but we didnt get it as bad as the big island cause thats were the epicenter was.

  • i remember that day like it was yesterday!! I remember the very moment i started my jeep, we started shaking bad. I thought my jeep was messed up to I shut it off real quick and we were still shaking! when it stopped I took off to pick up my husband the ground started shaking again. then the power went out and didn't come back on for TWO days!!!! no cellular service either.

  • the palm trees and its leaves are not moving,,,nextime you must do it well making fake earthquake videos,,,!!! think about it!!!

  • Structures are normally the only way of telling whether there's an earthquake, that and you feel the ground moving beneath you. Palm trees dont necessarily have to move in order to prove an earthquake.

  • that audio reminds me of "paranormal activity" -very cool vid -go Hana Maui!! _Kihei Boyz '87

  • I thought is was my neighbor starting up his Harley for his Sunday ride until my g/f started yelling earthquake from downstairs. then the after shocks hit.

  • icciiciciciciciicicicici neje dobro

  • I was in Oahu on October 15, 2006... I am from California so I am used to earthquakes. But this was different...we were on the 14th floor when it struck....all electricity went out, no water, the city went dark. We had to climb down fourteen floors all the while being afraid another one would hit again. It was real and I'll always remember that day.

  • la ilaha illa lahh

  • haha i was skating around that place last week, no one noticed we werent hotel guests lol, its a super fun skate.

  • I remember this day. It was the FIRST TIME EVER I've felt an earthquake.

I still remember EVERYTHING that happened to me and my friends.

My friends story was actually funny cuz then yeah... Hard to explain.

This was on a Sunday morning. I was getting ready for Church.

  • "should we get out side" "no!" lol

  • You can hear the roaring sound of this earthquake, wow. 6.7!

  • the clouds? lol

  • i was pretty heavy eveyone ran outside... maui is not used to feeling earthquakes

  • Yes, this is real. I live on Maui and this video is mild compared to what my family and i felt in our home in Haiku.

  • hello, i live in hawaii, that actually happened and we were there in hana camping for someone's birthday. it was scary, but we were the first ones out to leave hana after that....and that was scary...if you dont think it's real, then look it up on google...dumbasses

  • the trees arent moving >>

  • Relative to what? the earth? Of course they wouldn't "move"

  • its fake who doess the tress not move

  • Stop trolling, this was an actual quake. This is what real quakes are like

  • damn

  • It was real guys. The road around Hana was reopened in 2008. I live in Kihei Hi. This is an amazing place.

  • i can't say on this video. but there was an earthquake there a few yrs back. I live in Kodiak, Alaska and i watched the news for a tsunami. we even have warning sirens for such shit...

  • Oh my god I thought it was real!

  • it was real!

  • FAKE!!!!!!!!! how dare u!

  • Since there seems to be a debate going I'll throw my two cents in. This seems real to me, and I live in Alaska where quakes are the norm. I have similar footage from here and if I had to guess I'd say it's real. You never know though...

  • fAake

  • so stuped and not funny bitch

  • Right on. Well done. I've been in four major quakes including San Francisco and Los Angeles. I'd say this is real.

  • @teejate Dude, how stupid are you? This video is 100% fake. I know for two reasons. One: the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.6, not 6.7. Two: the palm trees and houses didn't move at all. If you're really buying this then you're dumber than a sack of hammers.

  • @LouisRandy First of all I'm a college professor. Might have a touch more intellect than a sack of hammers.

Secondly, you're popping off to me a YEAR after I made a comment on a You Tube post? Nice timing.

Question. If the houses and trees were moving in concert with the camera how would you expect to see them visibly shake?

Finally, magnitudes are ALWAYS off after the initial quake.

"Life" just called. It's wondering when you're going to pick it up. It misses you.

  • Why would someone fake this?... There *WAS* a 6.7 quake on the exact date specified in the video, and this is the kind of footage that you will get from a quake.

  • fake trees move in earthquakes IM a CALifornian !

  • Im sorry but I agree with the ppl that say its fake... Im on their side with this one. Sorry.. Nice attempt though on the vid.

  • Do you have access to the internet? ;-[ ... What is amazing is that these people staged this on the very day we had an earthquake. Now, that took planing... There are still roads that are unusable and dangerous parts of the Hana Highway as a result of this alleged quake. We have no Idea how they managed that. What is astounding is the film matches the seismic charts perfectly, and you thought "Industrial light and Magic" was good, ha amateurs...

  • Um the trees didnt move its fake and the dishes thing was home recorded to loud O.O

  • yea i think so too öÖ

  • There was an earthquake on maui last night. 3.4 it was small but scared me so bad!!

  • My friends old flat screen tv that wiehgt like 600 lbs moved to the other side of the room. Were on the BIg Island though.

  • I survived the road to Hana, now I survived the Earthquake in Hana! LOL

  • I dunno, I live in Maui and where I live the shit was mad rockin' - not sure if this vid is real.

  • Ho bruh you think it rocked on maui bu if you lived big isle you would of s.hit your pants

  • I lived in California for 10 years and know what an earthquake feels looks, and sounds like -- even on video. That one was for real, my friends.

  • if the ground is moving the camera is gonna be moving so the trees r still gona be level with the camera so its not gonn alook like the trees r moving but they r.

  • I'm super scared of earth quake's =/

  • me too :(

  • the hawaii islands are on the pacific plate.

  • Where I was at on The Big Island, it was WAY crazier! This was nothing..

  • Even if it is real, it's a worthless video. Nothing happens. not worth watching.

  • maybe the video is fake, but the earthquake was real.

  • I was there for that one, yes it shake here in Hawaii too.

  • wow! i remember this! i was at war memorial with my football team in the locker rooms. we were scared out of our minds!

  • Sorry folks, this is real. I live on the other side of Maui and will never forget it. I lived in CA for 12 years and never felt a quake that lasted this long, and got stronger as it progressed. This vid (obviously from visitors who set up their camera to catch the Hana sunrise) clearly shows exactly what I felt, and how long it lasted. Dishes started rattling and falling in my house just like you hear in this vid, and at the same time.

  • i thing proven that it is not real... the way he shakes his cam is beyond the magnitude of 6.. halllerrr

  • @cindyglobal: Maybe he had his camera zoomed in pretty far... than, movements always are always more clear to see than in a wide-angle shot.

  • you've proved you can jump up and down with a camera.

  • This is real! ...A earthquake hit all over the islands. This even happen on the island of Oahu of where I'm from. I was sleeping, when I felt my bed shook. Then after that, the power went out.

  • ...

    Seriously.

Most people are saying that this video itself is fake but most should know that the earthquake was real.

  • this is SO NOT real

  • Pele must have been angry for someone taking home lava rock. ;)

  • i heard a cash register when he turns the camera out of the sunrise picture.

and the news is true but how come the trees arent shaking?

  • its real. how you pricks turned real-life hawaii into a debate, i will never know. bt anyways, its real. i remember it, and we're used toi earthquakes. and vog. lol i remembe the time at kilauea i almost killed myself...

  • Yes fool, we know the earthquake actually happened (I was there), but this video is not real.

  • its real...you even see some things on the houses porch shaking

  • If this is fake than the person who put this together is an expert on earthquakes. This is exactly what a quake would look and feel like at that distance from the epicenter.

In addtion, this producer got some great actors as their comments were soft, subtle and obviously not directed at the camera, as so many amateur quake fakers do.

The shaking/vibrating is hard to see on the trees because of the distance from the camera, camera shake and YouTube's destruction of video quality.

  • This video is certainly a fake. I was there for the earthquake, and while this is a good fake only as a result of the subtle, un-directed voices in the background, the sky was completely clear that day. The shaking also was more intense and got more intense until it suddenly stopped. In this the shaking increases and then decreases. Plus you can't see ANY movement in this film, whereas in real life whole trees were shaking and dropping branches and leaves.

  • In addition, the same earthquake can feel very different depending on your location.

When you are close to the epicenter the shaking starts stronger, shakes harder, and ends quickly and abrubtly.

The farther away you are from the epicenter, the shaking starts slowly and builds. Rolling motions can be felt for quite awhile at a distance, yet are not felt at all close to the epicenter.

The condition of the sky is not an issue unless you were in the same location as the video.

  • This area is, in fact, about 60 miles from the epicenter. And I was, in fact, much closer to the epicenter. I was in South Kohala on the Big Island, which is the area that experienced the most extreme ground shaking (1g+ was recorded). However, I have a good view of Hana, being that it faces where I live. I have photos I took that day within a minute or so of the earthquake showing Hana and East Maui, and it was a completely cloudless day.

Maybe this is a good fake, but I think it's fabricated.

  • You are not taking into acount location. If the shaking was more intense for you, you were probably closer to the epicenter.

This video clearly shows the arrival of the P waves at :33, the arrival of the S waves at around :45. The 12 second difference indicates that this recording was about 60miles (96km) from the epicenter.

I have not looked up the distance from the Hana Hotel to the Epicenter, but this could be another way to confirm this as real, or a scientiffically accurate fake.

  • The strength of the ground motion can vary widely depending on soil conditions and distance from the epicenter....

It's my opinion that this is a real video.

  • But again, the shaking was violent in Hana. There was extensive damage and many landslides in the area. There is NO visible shaking in this video - not even the tiny little palm tree leaves infront of the camera when the shaking is strong enough to knock over objects. That is the hallmark of a fake earthquake video.

And again, someone in Hana who lived in the area shown in this video said there were no clouds that day.

  • 1979 by the SMASHING PUMPKINS

  • uh huh so people would throw plates ang glass cups on the ground to make a FAKE video of a FAKE earthquake...

    yea...

  • i'll get in trouble for saying this, but go screw yourself. i was in it. sure it didn't do like the mainland quakes but you try waking up with your house shaking and your neighbors yelling "earthquake........ya prick

  • this is NOT fake because i experienced this earthquake...i was still sleeping and my bed started shaking and i thought my cousin was shaking my bed but it was an earthquake

  • this is not fake?. we have tourists they film this shit, like the sunrise, but im not sure where this is filmed. and this did happen. it knocked out all the power in freaking hilo. for like a day and a half if i remember right. But im not totally sure, lol i was like wtf cuz it shook where lived. no tsunami though.

  • Comment removed

  • this is a fake, let me repeat, it is a fake.

  • why is it fake I was in Maui when it happened and it shook the same and lasted exactly as long as in the video. And also made the same noises. Trees don't always shake during earthquakes. It all depends on how it shakes, like this shake was side to side so the trees don't move as much. Also remember the camera was proped up and at 0:57 the window on the house is shaking and you can see something fall inside of the house and someone running before the camera zooms over.

  • it isnt fake, im from hawaii...plz research stuff before ripping on it. Hawaii has lots of earthquakes, and theyre all varied inn depth, which can decide how damaging an eq is...plus, its hawaii! we no care, we have active volcanoes, thats why everyone is so calm...im not from maui, but thats real cuz i remember...wasnt rlly felt that much in hilo, though i do remember the aftershock...

  • how fake is this...get a life

  • Your earthquake in the future are here. See more than 800 world earthquake prediction. The plate tectonic NOT makes the earthquakes. Volcano near Tokyo has been predicted.

  • Footage is probably real. You can see the gap between the P an S waves. Go read about it if you don't know what I'm talking about.

  • this is fake. notice the entire picture shake. the branches on the trees are too stiff and only the picture is shaking she sea was too calm all the leaves on the tree was stiff and shake in the same direction as the camera was shaking. The girl in the background was too calm for an earthquake. the noise was phony & why did she say get the camera. the camera was already set up for the phony 6.7 earthquake. A 6.7 would have cause major damage. fake, I can't believe people fell for this.

  • It amazes me how this was once a great video to watch and then it turned into a battle of how fake it is. Reasons it is real:

0:49-0:51: Notice The Trees Are Shaking, the camera is proped up causing it to shake on the windowsill.

0:56: The Trees are shaking again, no one wants to take a closer look at them

0:57: The window on the patio is vibrating.

  • I hate earthquakes!!

  • remember that. i was just woke up then once i steped on te carpet from my bed everything started shaking and that was my frist time experencing an earthquake. i screamed and went down stairs into my mom nd dads room!!

  • i live on oahu and i remember waking up and my mom putting on makeup like the earthquake was nothing. haha

  • For those who say this is fake, this event was real, unless a million people just imagined that the earth was moving. I my self had just woke up when it hit. As for this video it's most likely real.

  • the earthquake you felt was real, but this video is fake. the sea was too calm during the shake and look how the contents in the picture was shaking. the trees was not shaking. the camera was.

  • yup, it is a fake!

  • the branches on the palm trees are too stiff, they should have been moving more "violently" from all that "shaking", instead of going up and down the way a camera would shake. every thing seems to be moving in one direction. like you would take a tv set and shake it.

  • I just watched a video of a real earthquake, and the "items" in the video shook much differently. anway you people believe what you want I don't care!

  • yeah i remember this was kinda cool. hehe power was out for couple days..

  • hehe...it's funny cuz not much things happen like this on Mau'i compared to the mainland so it's kinda cool when it does.

  • it´s real. no fake, listen the saound!!!!

  • okay look it was on da dam newz papr and i was their i live on maui in kula and that fukcin earthquake was shakin my house

  • so fake.

  • u guyz are weird...it;s fake. stupid...FAKE

    FAKE

    FAKE

It's just this guy shaking the recording thing ao it LOOKS like it's an earthquake. IT'S NOT!!

    FAKE

  • It is real. Then the power was like out for a day and a half or something.

  • you even live in hawaii?? the earthquake was off of the big island and shook the island chain. read up before you make assumptions.

  • How big was this earthquake?

  • I dont understand why people think its fake, tourists film the sunrises in Hawaii all the damn time.

  • this is a bullshit
