did anyone else notice that when you built your city so big that it wouldnt develop no more. I probably only used less than half of the map and had a population of around 15,000, then everything fucked up, like pottery worksops would be producing pottery but wouldnt take it anywhere, and there was plenty of places to take it, and because of that everything seem to de-evolve. That was the same for all workshop and raw materials.
@allscreennameshavebe There is a sprite limit in Caesar 3. The number of buildings are limited at 2000, the number of walkers are limited at 1000. In order to get a very high population, you need to increase the efficiency of your utilities. (So every building can serve more population each). You can design a more compact block, or use some advanced techniques, like gatehouse roadblocks, forced walker, etc.
Interestingly you are the second one I've answered this question in another video.
2011 and still one of the most fun games I've ever played. This game stayed on my computer for the longest of any I've ever played. Probably 10 years now.
just for everyone's clarity on the game and how to build a city wihtout it A:burning down B: collapsing or falling down C: people leaving the city IE emmigration, then simply play the campaign it teaches you everything you need to know, step by step. :)
thanks but not needed. i found a way to make the origional disk work again :) stupid mistake i just had to rightklick it instead of double klick to install for some reason.
whenever i choose a prosperous city on my game, i think its around mission 4 or so it goes ok for a while but then i get attacked, and as it is a peaceful area I cannot build a barracks/ create defense. . . . what do i do ?? :( i love this game but get stuck !
@tropicana189 if you get attacked in first missions were building army is not allowed, then most likely you have angered either Caesar or Mars. If you anger Caesar it's a game over, so probably you got on the wrong side of Mars. Just build plenty of temples through couple of festivals and it's gonna be ok.
@soldier4670 hahahahaha! you must build prefects like all over the place.... i wish you could set their routes, but they just kind of wonder around freely
Try seperating industrial areas and populated areas. Also less experienced builders find it easier to build sort of "Jobbers quarters" to populate the city, and creating areas of wealth with preplanned spots. After that you can slowly hammer down the poorer areas and turn them into fancy roman buildings as time and money allows.
i always do that lol, never knew others did as well. i build like basic slums with water etc, no food then have all the industry like raw materials and production centres there
With Caesar 3 comes two advantages. Ability to "pause" the game, and ability to populate jobs worth 2000 population with a 2x2 tent. You should always pause in the start of the game, and pretty much create a city of 1000 people the least with everything, water, food, medicine up to schools. Also senate and forums. And since game is paused you can make this really preplanned and good place to live. Building exporting goods on the far side of the city is the oldest trick in the book :)
Just 1 2x2 two tent covers all your productions needs. Basicly it goes like this : Food as near as possible, Pottery and furniture to medium distance(Each large citypart requires own stable production) Oil, wine, weapons, iron far where it doesn't matter. On paper your city spends least oil and wine, and those are often the goods you'll be trading. About the tent, if all your farmland is on an island, 1 2x2 tent centralized on the middle of the island will cover jobs for all farms.
Especially in the end, with 2 final missions as you have to reach 75 and 85 prosperity. You simply cant have but perhaps 1, maxium of 2 deadbeat 2x2 housings, otherwise you're stuck around 60-70. Caesar 3 is really, really tricky game in the end. You soon realize in order to pop your prosperity up you have to sort of "Test" all areas of your city. Do they produce enough EVERYTHING to keep them constantly upgraded, or does part of the city die as others require more food and goods.
From tent leaves a citizen walking into different directions. This citizen represents the whole population of your city. 2x2 building block will produce a citizen often enough to cover the entire block of a hundred farms.
Obviously more citizen will evolve from large cities. Every job needs a citizen to walk past them regularly to keep them up, thats why you often get "Employees have poor access" on industrial areas that are too large & because citizen evaded them.
Caesar is extremely easy game if you know what you are doing. The first mission I encountered problem was the 2nd last mission on peaceful side. With nothing but import of oil and wine. And no place for Docks. Later on I understood it required too much preplanning and nearly cheating to complete, which I wasn't willing to do. But missions when you're able to produce your own pottery, furniture and oil is childsplay.
Just remember the rule of tax. Increase when need more works. Lower if too much
The taxes pay for your Imports, which are vital to a rich city. There is a huge difference in a speedy boost and upkeeping a wealthy city.
Let me give you an exmaple. You oil up all your houses. Suddenly your food requirement and pottery/furniture requirements raise up by another 100 to 200%. Your city dies. Imports keep you alive. You need to avoid slums to be able to raise taxes accoding to your level of housing.
Also, when you talk about a senate. There is a "Layout" called "Desirability". It's basicly like adding more garden near your housings or adding a fort next to it. Result is Desirability either drops like hell or increases like never before.
There are three major increases : The Senate, Governors Palace and the Arch of Triumph you receive from sending troops to help caesar.
Also note that largest palaces(Houses) can house up to 250 aristocrats.
Definitely. I must say that for gamers like u2ber87 who wish to play for sense of realism and building rather than tailing perfection I would always suggest playing only the war missions.
And to question, why?
-War missions nearly always provide your province with ability to produce the important consumer goods yourself among with relaxed trading and more "reasonable" winning requirements.
-Turn off the difficulty level 30 seconds before the enemies invade, this will shrink their army.
My point was Militaristic missions are more flexible to a player of any caliber. Players who seek intensive challenge fighting off AI armies will be granted that, while newcomers have the option of decimating any force without having to resort to trainers or cheats after bashing their head against the wall.
For me, I don't mind. Militaristic missions are too easy for any advanced players. It gets really old really fast slaughtering AI.

His city won't get high prosperity,
the fact that he builds his colossium, workshops or blabla near his houses will reduce the desirability.

well i usually pause and make "slums" near the waters for pottery to export, sit on some money for a bit...
thanks for your advice sounds good. and do you mean just one 2x2 tent? or you mean rows of these?

thanks
ayjay90 2 years ago
That often happened to me.
When I build a new block - district. Previous devolve :/
Probably the walkers move to much.
Roadblock in Pharaoh is great idea.
How do you mean 1 2x2 tent is enough.
Let's say 6 farms and one engineer need 65 ppl.
How many ppl are in the tent?
u2ber87 2 years ago
In the tent? Unlimited.
From tent leaves a citizen walking into different directions. This citizen represents the whole population of your city. 2x2 building block will produce a citizen often enough to cover the entire block of a hundred farms.

Wow,
it feels like cheating knowing the game that much :).
I actually never saw anybody going from a house, except a bump or an emigrant.
I thought a new work building actually produces a work searcher (citizen) which disappear when he reaches the house.
But you probably know it better.
Thanks.

Hmm.. taxes, yeah. Smart.
I learned a lot just this 3rd time of playing c3.
This is not kids game. I like sandbox building no limit.
But I don't like it all perfect houses and those blocky patterns of housing.
I want it to look like a "real town" with slums, elite part. Coloseum on an expected place, Senate on an apropriate place.
I've seen people put Senate next to farms :0
Mansions near wharves and forts etc
u2ber87 2 years ago

But i admit military missions are far more easier than peaceful missions.
But you have to have a quick building skills in those mission in order to success.
bunker931 2 years ago
hey.does the governor's palace gives more prosperity?
mastardchief 2 years ago
Based on my very old game manual.
they both give level 4 prosperity.
But the palace does give more since it occupies more space.
Example: Oracle is 2x2, then 4x4=16units
Palace is 5x5, so it gives 25x4=100units
so your best choice is palace for the biggest boost, use oracle when you ran out of spaces.
Large temple is a good way to boost it too, and it makes god happy.
bunker931 2 years ago
wow nice ur a nerd in this game lol :)
