If I feel down about the corruption and the stupidity in the world I always know I can turn to the Clash. They are an inspiration. I got politicised because of them and I'm know I'm not the only one. May their music and their legacy live on forever. All Hail The Clash!
I think they all look like they're having a good time & they really believe that they're in it for the long haul. It's crazy to think that this is the same year Topper would get sacked, followed by Mick the next year. It's like this was the calm before the storm. Really sad... They had so much left in them, especially Joe, who seemed to take it the hardest after the split. I'm still grateful for everything they did, however short-lived it was. It remains some of the greatest music of all time.
This is really fantastic. They are at such peace. In spite of any problems, they are just out in New Zealand, away from the rest of the world just relaxing. Just friends out in New Zealand, no need to put on anything for anybody. Thanks for this upload.
Awesome vid! Love it! Joe and Mick look inseperable. I can't help but notice how fed up and annoyed Topper looks. I do love the smirk on Paul's face. So cute. Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome! Thanks for the upload!
what's amazing when you think about it the clash were only really together for 7 years. that's 2004 if we're talking today... so much in such a small amount of time
I know alot of you feel it's sad that the clash split, including me but at the same time we've gotta' be grateful we had such a great band that not only created great music but that also inspire other great bands and spread a message, that up til then hadn't been spread. You've gotta' be thankful for that I feel :)
Surprisingly enough, Topper is doing quite well these days. He's been sober for about 8 years and lives in Dover. There's a video around of him starting a music scholarship. He looks really good too.
Then again, "Strummer later apologized for lambasting Jones and admitted he was mainly to blame for the break-up of a successful songwriting partnership: 'I stabbed him in the back', was his own honest account of proceedings."
also, in this video, Mick alludes exactly to the sort of 'bad behavior' that Joe had a problem with, which Joe talks about in that interviews on 'wolfgangsvault'. Interesting stuff :)
Sacking Topper, yes.. Partly, at least. I'd like to think the break up of the Clash isn't just 'one' person's fault. Kind of like The Beatles. The ignorant will pin it solely on Yoko as if they know what they're talking about, but it's more complicated than that. It's the same with the Clash. Mick's new outlook on music and the kind of music he'd like to write contributed as well. Not to mention his bad, pompous attitude and everything with Bernie.. Its complicated and sad
The part about The Clash keeping going and how they're the 'real mccoy' and how they'd be betraying/'fooling' the fans if the band 'splits up', and how they're not going to fold up in 'a couple of weeks time' and that they're going to 'be here and continue and get harder'... so sad considering sacking Topper two months later or so was the beginning of the end..
Fuck me,,,this is epic! Old red trains, Joes words are fuckin surreal man. Wise words, great guy, great band, gettin old doesn't change shit, 'still waitin for the change in this world, fuckin drongos. Change ain't happening, no mckoy here, Joe's gone an the rest turns to shit....
He didn't leave abruptly. He said, I'm gonna go sunbathing, and he left in quite a leisurely fashion.
