i remember waking up that sunday morning to just a black sky and sirens, i was living in scripps ranch at the time and i had to evacuate along with my mom and sister and my aunt and cosins to my brothers little apartment in allied gardens. when we were finally able to go back home i looked over the fence in my backyard that leads down to pomerado road and saw that he fire had stopped about 7 houses away from mine
@proceedapathy yeah it definitely was i remember about a week or so after the whole thing was over i went with my brother and a few of his friends on a drive around scripps ranch and poway and there was just so many homes gone and the canyons were completely black
was certainly a scary day and series of events for us all...I remember walking down the street and urrounded by grey and green fog... it was like armageddon for real.
And here I am moving to poway to work for GEICO... and they wonder why I didn't want to live closer to the office, its cause it's in the mountains and I'm totally afraid of fire!
I remember that day like it was yesterday. Waking up to that awful smell. The sky bright orange. Ash everywhere. Turned on the TV to see what looked like a mushroom cloud in Scripps Ranch. I really thought the world was ending that day. Granted I lived in Clairemont Mesa at that time, but when the fire hit Tierresanta, we hit crisis mode. That week was one of the scariest of my life. Not knowing if we would evacuate at any moment. Thanks for putting this up.
@RapeYoFace No problem. Yeah I woke up that morning and first noticed a huge cloud, later realizing it was a cloud of smoke. Took a drive and noticed a fire had started. As the day went on it felt like chaos in the city as we found out it was going to take a while to be put out!
@RapeYoFace Thanks for your response, I live in Poway and I had the feeling of the world was ending.. at least for all who were affected by the situation.
I lived in Ramona when it started and I seem to be a liitle confused on how u r saying things like gardern road fire, did u mean as in where they were? Cause that fire started at cedar creek but I was just a little confused is all
The cedar fire was the largest of the 15 fires that burned in San diego county in 2003. It remained the largest until the witch creek fire in 2007 surpassed it. But the old fire was a firestorm, and it wasn't put out until rain started pouring down on the fire.
I guarantee you guys that there will be another series of fires like that, and it might have one that is bigger that the witch creek fire.
I lived in Scripps Ranch when it happened. I didnt know what was going on at first I thought a regular car accident happened but then I saw my neighbors leaving their houses...that's when I knew something was wrong and then we had to leave too. I saw the fire literally jump the highway with the winds....really scary
I TRULY REMEMBER THAT WEEK the ashes burn down on my niece,. i got my leg stuck between car door when i got in to save someone from thier car crash that week ,. but i went back to get my niece out from the cedar we were have a picnic ,. while ashes when trough our eyes i can only think of getting my niece out of thier alive
@Hawaii2DaRanch dude i totally know what you mean. I was only in the 6th grade when that happened and that whole week, including Halloween, there was just this huge sense of looming danger, it was really scary
@sdkicks i was too dude i lived in ramona at the time. i left my bedroom window open because i heard people outside and the smell in my room afterward made me sick for months after that.i so much as smell it in the air and im looking everywhere. where did you live?
@Hawaii2DaRanch this fire started 5 miles from my house(ramona estates) it came around our mountain like a howling furnace. ill never be the same, this is not what you want to grow up with.
It started two days before my birthday and my mom spent the hundred dollar bill she was going to give to me on food and stuff because the banks were down. I never got it back and I never cared. No one was protecting the Lake Jennings area and the only reason why every house is still standing is because one single helicopter flew over my neighbors who were fighting the blaze with a garden hose and dumped water on the fire. The helicopter was lost.
and here we are almost exactly 4 years later....same thing happenin again, but this time it's worse and even more outta control. what didn't we learn from last time?
I survived that fire. Missed my house by 7 miles. Afterwards, I sold my house and moved to Ohio. And now, another fire, even bigger and more devestating. I'll take my chances dealing with a tornado.

i remember this well, this made me cry, to remember what we lost and mad me thankful for what we still have. i was a Garen road elementry school and we had to have a week off because it was 20 ft from our school! many of my fiends lost their houses, including my best frined!!! Thanks, we needed to remember this
omg i remember this fire... i was only in elementary school and it wiped out the whole community! soo scary! we did get a whole week of school off tho...
I remember it too, I don't think I'll ever forget it. I live on the south end of Mission Trails Park (in San Carlos) and we were evacuated (on the 26th). Luckily the neighborhood didn't burn and we were allowed back on monday the 27th around 3pm.
Yup. I had to evacuate to Yuma Arizona. The fire took out east county. Many people lost there houses. I saw the fire the night before all this happened. It was so far away then the next morning...BAAM!!!!

@gdoggiedizzle It was crazy, luckily it didn't reach your house! It's unfortunate for those who lost their house and belongings.

@irishjock117 The titles that are shown are to reflect what's being seen in the video and where the fire traveled to throughout the area.
