  • omg tom was just skating switch like it was nothing. i shit bricks when i first saw that switch frontside 360.

  • hey.... maybe everyone was biting pennys baggy rags...

  • haha baggy pants era

  • yep- sk8'n got a bit too buisness like(because it is !) and i for 1 did want to get away from it,took a boring job -and did'nt do much else! . boards/ trucks /shoes!! went way up in price. still get the itch to sk8 tho!!! lol.. body's fucked and my mind is a mess..he he but i did'nt realy sk8 that long. late 86 to 93 ish

  • it seems like 20 years gone.... but i still remember wearing gardener pants and pressuring my flips.

    sick !

  • god damn i love skateboarding... a moment in time that should never be forgotten

  • Tom Penny has a g-style

  • Soggy underground car parks. Preposterously low denim and super glued shoes. Those were the fucking days!

  • Amazing footage. This was about a year or two before Tom hit his prime. The clothes are incredible - how on earth did we think that we looked good? I can't believe that I used to walk the streets of Nottingham like that for at least 3 years. The guys in the vid look like a gang of garden gnomes or something. Still....great memories.

  • @SwitchRich Looking back yeah those clown clothes were pretty ridiculous but back then it was awesome cause nobody else had started wearing baggy clothes yet, it was only a skateboarder thing. Only a year or two later did everyone else start doing it. Besides I dont think it looks any more ridiculous than today's skinny jeans.

  • Switch frontside ollie, not switch frontside air! You need to grab for it to be called an air!

  • What's the name of the song playing? It's fuckin dope :D

  • Simon Evans was the dude I was thinking about.

  • That was great! I skated around that period and saw these guys down Harrow skatepark a lot of the time.

I remember Matt Stewart doing 360 flips and landing switch stance on the bank/ quarter pipe at Harrow.

A notable absence from the video was that fellah who did a lot of the photos for R.A.D and wore a lot of baggy clothes as well. Can't remember his name.

  • timeless footage of penny. anyone notice his foot adjustment from the blunt to switch fs air? so dope

  • thats the sickest footage of tom penny ive ever seen. i could watch thos frontside airs all damn day

  • ahha just pause at 1:27 and look at how ridiculously all of those kids are dressed

  • shippo!!

  • In Canada we missed out on so much of the UK scene, there was so little coverage. My buddy's girlfriend had a cousin from England and he brought over some mags, that was the first time I ever saw Alex Moul. I was an instant fan.

  • @Royfokker73 Alex rips like crazy man!

  • ACRES of denim!

  • Ahhhh good to see the good ol' days.....you can see Penny stil working on those infamous fs flips on the quarters :D Havent seen Shipman or Luckhurst footage for a LONG time. [The golden era] thanks for posting this mate...... R.I.P Matt McMullen.

  • everyone used baggy clothes xD

  • R.I.P. Carl Shipman. Also, I don't think Alex's pants were orange enough =p

  • Carl Shipman's dead?

  • isn't he? for some reason I thought he was.

  • No he isn't dead at all! He's alive and well living in my hometown, riding for Stereo.

  • lol ya I got him mixed up with Phil Shao for some reason =p

  • Best years for skateboarding. early to mid 90's

  • Pennys switch tricks are amazing, even pushing switch, most pros push most of the older pros push mongo when there setting up for a switch trick.

  • @tsigr ya he pushed switch like a man

  • light up a blunt to this shit! i already got on my XXL

  • this is one of the best skate videos on here

  • I love old footages..., tom penny, forever...

  • Look at those 39mm wheels!!!!!

I started skating in 1992, I know the sport was a decade old at that point.... but I think 1991-1994 was the old school of the modern era for skating. fuckin rad.

  • @tylerpfreely looking back I liked '89-91 best. The style was much more solid during that short but sweet era. By '92 things got a bit ugly and the style was lost. Tricks were super tech but done sloppy, the boards so super skinny and the wheels were tiny yet the clothes were clownish. Took 'til around '96 or so for skating to become much more smooth again. I'm glad to have been a part of skateboarding's progression.

  • dude that shit was sick!!

  • i used to skate that ramp it was so steep

  • top video, brought back some memories in the fashion department! never went to radlands but skated with carl shipman a few times in notts. good times.

  • Comment removed

  • sw bs on the hip making it look so easy

  • so smooth

  • was that the guy from the RadioHead video?!?

  • Mind blowing board and body control in an era when just rolling away was good enough for a video part.

  • big pants-small wheels-era :D

  • frontnose in the miniramp was awesome

i liked his switch fs ollies too

  • shipmans nollie hardflip is sick or fakie whatever it was fat.

  • i am guessing penny won.

  • that baggy pants style man i was in 6th grade.. looking @ the this Vid those baggy pants n shit make ya look likea samuri warrior

  • RADLANDS RIP

  • they all dress like ali g haha

it's crazy to look back and see how far skating has come. it seems like everything was so tech back then it was a little ridiculous

  • Tom Penny is the Smoothest style

  • 2:10 wow. someone bring that back.

  • hah, baggy ass jeans and sk8-boards? seems liek that shit never happened. Rude fit is way more practical

  • when i first started back in like 97, it seemed like everybody wore a white tshirt and khaki dickies

  • back then, skateboarding wasn't as "squeaky clean" as it is nowadays...lets just say there weren't quite as many soccer moms who were willing to drop off their 8-year-olds at the skatepark ; )

  • so real roll up

  • you are a bitch

  • This is so sick. This was during the "recession-era" of skating - tons of people had quit and only the hardcore continued - this is probably some of the best UK footage I've ever seen of that time.

What kids these days don't appreciate is that we had like 3 indoor parks across the whole country and a deck cost £70!! Boards and wheels got skinnier, the wheel-base changed (remember re-drilling! LOL). Tricks got really tech. Clothes were massive. Cut off jeans, gazelles. Happy happy days :-)

  • good point man, puts it into perspective how much skateboarding has come back, with things like the berrics

  • my god i was at my peak then.shitty norfolk town had some real rippers,3 of us "all" worthy of sponsership and offered.

acme size 38 waist baggy as fuck and looking out very of place everywhere.i miss those times greatly

  • @jonnydigital666 U summed up perfectly how i remember this era. Skateboardings mainstream popularity had died completely, all the posers who only did it cuz it was trendy in the 80s had quit and only the real skateboarders still did it. We were looked at as freaks back then, being one of the only few left in our town wearing huge clown clothing nobody else was doing yet. It was almost a depressing time but also very exciting cuz things were just getting very tech. Everything was so new back then

  • tom penny had and has style by the mile and doing all those tricks whilst fucked up on drugs aswell...respect!

  • Tom penny was amazing. The high master of tech and switch. Dressed a bit like a ninja in pyjamas too.

  • nice , thx for those precious epic moment ! :)

  • man thanks for uploading this I used to go skate radlands back then and was there during this comp, brings back my absolute favourate skateboarding memories. i was just a spooty little kid then hah

  • footage is sick big up for posting this

what's the track? any info would be wicked

    cheers. lil mayo

  • thanks , this brings back good memories

    no skaters had tv shows

nobody was wearing $40 hats , hell we didnt have $40 in our whole thrift store outfit

nobody thought it was COOL to skate , so those of us who did skate were off the radar and could skate almost anywhere with no hassle

pro skaters werent on lifestyles of the rich and famous showing off their houses either

who would of EVER thought it would get so whored out ?

  • This looks like the year of the super baggy clothes.

I will admit skateboarding has been whored out, but from this video, it looks casual and just looks like child style in skating (not very clean and anything is acceptable). Even tho the tricks are amazing.

Nowadays skateboarding is very percised on how each trick has to look like. Very rarely you'll see someone walk away with a sloppy looking section.

It's a shame i started skating at the end of the undergound Era. =/

  • style was sketchier then cause the tricks were all still new and people were trying to progress more than dial a trick in..its also a comp where first place was prob $500 , not $50,000 like today..its alot easier to make tricks look good when you have been doing them for 10-20 years..back then nobody had been doing these tricks for years..though skating hasnt really progressed a whole lot since then as far as tech tricks , they just do them on bigger rails and gaps , and yes they look better now

  • Nowadays everything is reversed...People wear skinny trousers/pants and close fitting shirts.

    IMO..

    BAGGY = FTW

    SKINNY = For fags.

  • tom the master

  • damn penny's skating just was probably so futuristic looking then... nobody was doing everything switch like that... all those switch frontside ollies and whatnot... nuts.

  • it still looks futuristic ha

  • i like the pants and wheels

  • everyone looks like garden gnomes.

    good times

  • true dat, acid dropping garden gnomes. they look like they're going to a dance party. rave or die.

  • golden years for skating

  • kickflip at 3:35 so sick

  • damn... this video is old as hell!!!! i remember those days! i remembering skating with pants like those hahaha.

  • song

is the brotherhood - alphabetical response

  • Wow, thanks so much for posting this! We were all in it together back then.

  • i can't believe those pants were in style.

  • that was siiick

  • whats the song?

  • rip radlands, n-town represent.

  • thanks for putting that up, brings back a lot of good memories!

  • Gotta be one of the best lines i've ever seen, the only i can think of thats better is Pennys contest mini ramp run in menikmati extras section. Everything before is just Penny warming up!

  • the last line penny did in the mini was sooo sik. I wish skateboarding was still like it was back then. hella baggy. n crazy clorors n shit. hella dope compaired to gay ass tight pants and emo gear today.........

  • penny was and still is the king!!!

can any1 give a name of the song please

  • So so good, penny doesnt even look like hes trying.

Should be a compilation of old radlands/sb footage for the cover dvd..that stuff is like hens teeth!

  • This is gold!!

    Thanks for share!

  • Alex Moul? No way..... that is like the only footage of him I have ever seen. I had some Euro mag with pics of him doing trick tips, I always thought he was sick, just never saw any video. Thanks for that.

  • I'll tell you what as much of a ledgend Penny is, Nowick will still give him a good run for his money Kick flip blunt late flip out to fakie just off the top of my head,,,,and I think he's doing blunt 360s to fakie now on 7 foot ramps too soutampton boyz gotta rep greg mate!......penny still rules though

  • Nowicks tricks are incredible, but Penny has the style and can skate absolutely anything...

  • way ahead of his time

  • the others are legends but then penny comes on and just makes it all look ridiculously easy

  • That was really nostalgic viewing. I used to skate with some of those guys. Both Penny and Shipman were incredible back then. It's a shame that you don't see much of Shipman nowdays - such an incredible talent.

hahaha, I'm trying to feel nostalgic about the baggy clothing, but there's no denying it, we all looked absolutely ridiculous.

  • Yeah your right,

Man we brought the whole baggy jeans and addidas gazelles/puma clydes into fashion!

    We were the innovators!

  • Timeless footage, can't believe that footage is 16 years old - funny how skateboarders used to all dress like ravers tho!! haha!!

  • ya really its better back then , then now, skateboarding to mainstream now, i remember when skateboarding along was its own style

  • tom penny has such flow

  • ya pennys the man, anytime me or one of my friends does something smooth, were like, oh shit that shit was penny. haha

  • brilliant posting, thanks for that.

it was all about the baggy trousers in those days kickflippy

  • tom penney will shut down any spot/session . 10 years ago. present day.

  • didnt feel like ten years penny must skate real fast why do th really good ones dissapear for a long time? vs vs

  • pennys as real as it gets

  • absolutely amazing.

  • absolutely amazing.

  • It was 1992.

  • wats with the baggy clothes

  • paah some kiddy from the 90s that is probs in his teens now

  • R.I.P Radlands, I loved that park, every setup was a classic...Great early penny footage dude!

  • Amazing

  • used to be big pants, small wheels. now its the opposite

  • wow. solid unseen penny footy. five stars. this shit holds up today.. ive never seen penny rock a switch frontside air and he does so many in this cllip. oh and by the way this is not at all dated by their clothing.

  • it was cold. it always was cold!

  • i dont know if it was cold, but maybe beanies were mandatory.

  • This is amazing... not only Manzoori, Penny and Moul, but also Radlands!

  • Big pants, small wheels, pressure flips and late flips. Those were the days! I will always love skateboarding.

  • very nice :D thanks.

  • 'alphabetical response(instrumental)' by the brotherhood (early 90s uk hip hop crew)

  • Song?

  • I always liked wearing Cargo shorts for skating, but the thing that sucks about wearing cargo shorts, is that it shows the wet parts and my ass sweats horribly :P

  • Wearing baggy pants while skating is hard.

  • actually it makes skating a lot easier. tight pants are for fashion and fitting in only they make skating harder and restrict your movement.

  • Mike Manzoori is classic. illest dude ever.

    penny...you already know.

  • I think I'll watch this another couple of times now...

  • Thanks a lot for that call mktanner , that didn't come up when I searched for Penny before.

  • super quality, never seen this before..!god i should be born in england..:)

  • nope this footage wasn't in any rollersnakes video. i think in the first videologue it had some footage from the following year but as far as i know there was very little filmed that first comp

  • This footage is in the Rollersnakes video... were you the original cameraman?

  • 4:49

penny has the best tail slaps in the world...especially switch ones that are effortless...god I miss radlands.

  • I was unsure of the spelling at the time so i checked his part in an old birdhouse video, turns ot they spelt it wrong and i copied the mistake! ah well

  • no prob. and by the way, sickest vid ever!

  • it´s sami harithi, not hirithi

  • f*ck with a capital F!!! Shit hot!!! Never seen this before!!!

  • change the name of the title into "Tom Penny Old Footage" so more people can see this wonderful era of english skateboarding. I know it's got many other amazing skaters like Shipman but Tom Penny footage is so sort after these days.

    Peace
