Hi, someone asked sometime ago about the meaning of this song.
I think that it refers to the lack and the necessity of look for an identity by african-descedent people, after the experience of slavery in Brazil. São Vicente is the very first brazilian city (early XVI century). I think that the song may also, in a simbolic way, show the terrible experience of an african man just in the moment that he arrives in Brazil, as a slave, coming out from a ship in the São Vicente Harbour, in the past.
Can someone help me?? I really want to understand the MEANING and the TRUE MESSAGE of this song!!..I have the literal translation of the lyrics, but they do not convey the heart or the sentiment of this obviously powerful song...
