Is there a pre-Youngbloods version of this song by Jesse Colin Young? I seem to recall a version with not much more than acoustic guitar and Young's vocals.
@tsg7950 I did read this. Sometime after Billrabatin's reply, I actually found a copy of "Soul of a City Boy" on vinyl at a used record store in NYC. I also think it's Jesse's best work
Almost cannot believe I've found this classic number by The Youngbloods. ( I ♥ youtube! ) Just popped into my head on a rainy day here in San Francisco. Lots of memories. Thanks for posting.
Very moving song. Written by George "Robin" Remailly, author too of Euphoria. Young sings it so coolly. Corbitt's guitar playing subtly colors the lyrics. Then the solo breaks out into controlled chaos, with Young's bass line building tension as the band climaxes into the mournful last verse. Banana's piano too, so tasteful. This is what it means to be a band. Awesome, understated, underrated, song!
What's up with the B&W pix of Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, Chris Hillman & Company?

At 1:00, this video shows a picture of the Byrds, did this band have former Byrds members in it? or was that just a mix-up?

Like this song very much - it is so dark.
Love Jerry's guitar on this, too. Such an underrated player.
