Oh my! Info according to wikki: These candiru are tiny translucent catfish that are indeed blood eaters. They're not attracted by urine, but evidently, the concern is the urethra expands during urination, hence easier access. These fish are native to the Amazon River. Chopping the wily off )!!) was never a "cure" but use of local botanicals. Modern remedy is surgery. Stay out of the bloody water is what I say, plenty of other places to take a swim!!

@imaof4 I've heard, i think, that it's the trace amounts of ammonia in urine that attracts the fish to your *ahem*. Apparently when a fish pushes water out of it's gills they also put out a trace amount of ammonia. So viola. Thats how it finds gills and willies alike.
