@kkdkk7 I'd say the comedy object of the whole movie is that they are in prison - a very grim setting - and yet manage to form this very romantic and happy relationship...the characters are comically out of step with the reality of their situations because A) they are each other's first loves (a la Romeo & Juliet, with all of the starry-eyed idealism), B) they're in jail and that's not going to end well, and C) Carrey's character is a serial con-artist. Not so much because of the gayness.
