  • I have a question, when you have VIP tickets for the bus to the banana river viewing site, do they check ID's to make sure you are on the guest list? I am just curious as a friend from NASA gave us some VIP tickets to the current shuttle viewing. Thanks in advance for an answer.

  • @hatala1 We weren't originally supposed to go to the VIP site but got upgraded instead, so I was a special case. I don't know if they are going to make you show your ID or not but I do know that the you meet somewhere other than the visitor's center for the VIP buses...

  • thumbs up if you been to module beach beforein south carolina

  • On which side of the countdown clock were you? There was an Italian guy with his son right next to us as well! I can't hear him on my video, though.

  • I was there, too. I remember the big Italian guy doing the countdown and I can hear myself in the audio.

  • I saw STS-127 launch from the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex rocket garden. I wonder how far that is from where you viewed the launch from? I'm assuming you had the launch transportation tickets. I wanted to get those but they were all sold out so my launch viewing experience wasn't quite the same but still fun from the visitor complex. Thanks for the posting.

  • You were 7.56 miles away according to Google Earth.

  • The people talking in background are italian

  • You and I must have been very close together because the same people talking in the background in your video are talking in the background in my video. I just added my video as a response to your video.

  • Yea, you are right. Check out my blog at spikapino(dot)com and there is a picture on there that may help.

  • I have to see a launch live one day. American Muscle at its best

  • Great video - thank you! Although a bit shaky, but still good.

I wonder why the shuttle looks as if it's going down after a while of flying UP...

    Anyone?

  • The shuttle doesn't move straight up, it moves at a present angle to the atmosphere based on the altitude. As the shuttle moves down range and upwards in altitude, it increasingly matches the angle of the atmosphere so it can exit it more easily. Because the shuttle is flying increasingly parallel with reference to the atmosphere and the Earth is round, it appears that it starts moving downwards when in fact it is just following the curvature of the Earth.

  • Wow! Excellent explanation. Thank you!

  • do they grow bananas there?

  • Yes, and they make waffles... lots of waffles.

  • Beautiful video!! I know you said you were upgraded but, do you know if Banana River is a location in which you can purchase tickets?

  • As far as I can tell, you can't buy tickets for that site. I believe you have to know someone who works for NASA.

  • That's amazing....thank you!

  • very cool video! thanks for posting!

  • Thanks, It was an awesome experience indeed.
