Hey bro, take a look at the lead locomotive as he throttles up. The trailing unit nudges the first unit. The first unit should have been pulling. That suggest that the lead unit shut down. The trailing unit was trying to pull the train by itself.
if he pulled out fine a little later he was probably trying to pull before enough brakes on the consist had released. It sounds as if the generators tripped when they suddenly went to idle, due to the heavy load he was putting on the generators.
@Tcaauwe2002 that IS notch 8 for 645s. What you're thinking of is the 710, which has a far different notch 8 sound. Just watch a vid with an MP40PH in it. They are almost always in Notch 8 when travelling.
Not sure what was wrong, if anything. Not long after they pulled out of the yard just fine. You aren't suppose to go from notch 1 to notch 8 in one blow, but what he did should of been fine. Your should move up notchs when the load meter moves up.
Looks like some of the air wasnt cut in to part of the train. (Someone forgot to open a angle cock) You can tear a train apart if you pull on em too hard.
Was his train to heavy???? And I thought i read in an SD40-2 instruction manual somewhere, that you shouldn't jump from Run 1 to Run 8 in one go...because of draw bar tention. I hear about sooooooo many engineers breaking couplers/shafts from poor abilty to maintain throttle control.
@7674Princess You read a manual!? I run SD40-2s, SD60Ms, etc on CSX from Detroit to Toledo and vice versa all day everyday and i've never seen a manual. No offense to you but i'm just reading all these postings of people who never stepped foot inside big power or work in any capacity for a railroad and now everybodies an expert on train handling. Put in a job application, do hard labor as a freight conductor, go through the hard as hell engineer school, then talk about train handling.

@7674Princess i wouldn't move more than 3 notches at a time, he's only going from n2 to n6 in increments and then back to idle
