I wish that was my principal problem as well, having to many mouthpieces and too many bass trombones. When I was with Mr. Herseth, I didnt feel it like a problem. I felt like there were not a "right one", as you say, just different mouthpieces you can pick depending on what music demands. But if there is a right one, please, let us know. Thanks
This is really something for an old trumpet player who studied his performances and admired him more than anyone (still do) but never got to see this side of him. Thank you.
Listen to this man's work in recordings of the Chicago Symphony under Fritz Reiner during the 50's and early 60's, especially Mousorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Resphigi's Pines/Fountains of Rome, Wagner and Rossini overtures, and the 1961 recording of Strauss' Don Juan.
Perhaps the greatest classical trumpet player of the last century, but what a cool guy...thanks for posting this!
Thank you for sharing. My HS ban director was third chair french horn for the CSO during his first several years. Thanks Bud for all the great memories.
Thank you so much for this video, he is great!!! , hope he lives for long that way,no doubt Mr Herseth is born with this instrument, plus his sense of sound and music, make him an unique and unforgatable musician and person...GREAT!!!
Wow what a character! Some people watching this probably have no idea how important this man is to us, he is responsible for a good portion of the development of the orchestral style in this country during the 20th century but you certainly wouldn't know it from his attitude! And he still can play better than most of us at 88 years old! Great vid!
Could you imagine being his neighbor.

And to think people often characterize classical musicians as stuffy. xD

@todaystomsawyer Only the violins are stuffy, actually. The rest of the orchestra hates them :)
