She is very talented..great song.....as an opera singer with a trained voice myself.... it sounds like she is swallowing her voice. Almost like she is trying to effect a male baritone quality to it. The studio version has her voice lighter and higher. Take another great artist..Elton John..he also sounds far different live. However..Sir Elton abused his voice over the years by not singing properly. But he still sounds great. My type of vocal training is different we dont use mikes!!

To all those people complaining about her live perfomance:

The most notable difference between live and studio is her (imho very nice) accent. Meaning she can sing without. I think the live perfomance with this nice accent and a less polished single style is the way the song should be and she intends it to be.

The studio version got sugarcoated to be more likeable for the masses. And well, the commercial sucess proved them right.

I'd like to add, though, that there is another major difference between live and studio with Amy, that is in live performances she sings a lot deeper (2 octaves or smth).

Apart from that, I think there is little point in keeping auch a voice as hers unchanged in the studio version, since a radio device in a car or restaurant (or even at home) can't render the nuances anyway and is bound to sound different than live anyway. hence the standardisation.

However, I think its missing the point with an artist like her, its not about the flashy technique or vocal acrobatics, I'm seeing the music itself and the message behind it is more important. I'm not insulting her btw, I'd take her over most pop "singers".

I'd say skills are something that anyone can learn (throwing a ball or riding a bike for example), talent is something which you are born with (music, arts, sports etc). the sad thing is that you are used to that difference actually... there is not supposed to be a remarkable differance, i can give you several example bands of different music styles who can perform very close to perfect live on stage(RHCP, RadioHead, Arch Enemy, or simply any classical music performer), which as it should be in my opinion since i prefer live performers to studio dependant singers

Amy is amazing live! I saw in Chigago this summer as she opened for James.

What people who are bashing her live performance don't realize that is her real voice with her Scottish accent. This is real! I was so dissapointed to hear the album version because her producers (or the powers that be) took her voice from her to sell records in America or where ever.
