@sharkman0616 A filter isn't really necessary for outdoor portraits. Some people put a UV or skylight filter on the lens all the time as protection, but some feel this lowers lens quality and increases risk of flare. A lens hood would also offer some protection.
For the ND grad filters: Do you have to buy different size lens adapter rings if you want to use multiple lenses? Not the holder that keeps the filters in place, but the ring that holds the "filter holder" onto the lens. lol
You could, but it takes about ten times as long and requires time spent on a computer with Photoshop (assuming you even have it). Isn't it easier to get it right in camera, in one shot? It takes seconds.
I shoot with a D300 and use a 14-24 for wideangle, but it has a built in hood so I can't attach a filter..... or do I have to get a square filter and handhold it in place?
That's the only way really, but it's not easy to do - holding the camera in one hand and the filter in the other -- unless you use a tripod to support the camera. Its best to use the larger square filters such as Lee Filters 100mm wide system to ensure they cover the full diameter of the lens with a bit of room to spare.
photoshop should be banned

so is it not possible to attach a filter onto a d3000?
zmanKT 1 year ago
@zmanKT Yes. The 18-55mm VR kit lens it comes with takes 52mm filters.

brilliant! great guide :) is it possible to screw in multiple round filters?
xsiranthrax 1 year ago
@xsiranthrax Yes but too many will degrade quality and could cause vignetting (dark corners in pics)

Hi, can you recomend me a filter to soft skin on models, im starting shotting models and i know how to use light but dont like the skin appeareance
infrarojostudio 2 years ago
That's something I'd do in Photoshop since it gives you much more control over the amount of softness/blur you use.

does those holders fit in all types of lenses? or one kind of holders is for one type of lens in diameter?
joseeeeeph1219 2 years ago
you use special rings to attach the holder to your lenses. So you need one ring per diameter (i.e. one per lens).

Why do you need a grad filter?
Could you not take 2 shots, one at the ground exposure then one at tha sky's exposure then merge them in Photoshop?
