  • I dont know if you like santa fe, but I saw a pretty neat O scale F7 units with special red and black paint scheme. Ill shoot you pics next time I go to my local train store (I hope they're still there).

  • Is that standered gauge car about the size of G scale?

  • @emiller72us I believe standard gauge is just a little bit smaller than G scale, but don't quote me on that.

  • Dude you are my hero!! You should make a video showing how to make wives buy trains for theirs husbands. So where's your secret door or window where you slide those new trains through when you come back from hobby shop?haha Keep up the great work!!

  • I bought an Atlas O Industrial Rail ATSF boxcar and, although I loved the detail, it didn't have the axle bearing thingies that rotated. Can you give me a website and the name of a few cars by Atlas O that have that feature for approximately $50?

  • @TrainBrain9 I'm not sure you're going to find a car with the rotating bearing caps for $50. $70 is probably what you'll have to fork out for that.

  • hey do you have any of the southern pacific heritage cars or the dash 9?

  • is the tinplate modern or prewar

  • @fatzGeronimo It's brand new.

  • State Collage wow. I live in Jersey Shore about a hour away. Hope you enjoyed your stay in PA.

  • Hi Eric! I visit that hobby shop monthly. I model in N scale and he carries a good stock of micro train cars. Inf act I was just there yesterday!

  • wow that trestle is a work of art.

no wander you had to wait so long to get it.

bet you were like a lil kid trying to get that out of the package!

  • First of all Eric, I love this idea to do the blog videos. Second, the atlas dealers only hopper was an awesome find man! Third, the southern cylindrical hopper and the tin plate cars are excellent! Last but not least, the Bridge is just off the hook bro! Love it!

  • great video, I can't wait to see when the layout is done!! About how many freight cars do you have?

  • @BNSF700 A few hundred.

  • Eric, I appreciate your enthusiasm for this hobby. I watched all your videos over Christmas and got motivated to finish a layout of my own. Years ago, I inherited a bunch of GarGraves track and a couple Ross switches. I’m using them for this project. Though, after watching your videos and doing some research, the next layout I build will certainly use Atlas O. One question; Do you use the couplers that come with your trains, or do you replace them with something else?

  • @tcn1600 I almost always use the couplers that come with the cars. The only time I've ever switched them out is when I've converted cars from the big O-gauge couplers to Kadee scale couplers. I made a video on how to do that, by the way.

  • Cool video... Great start for the new year.. liked the cars and the bridge... keep up the great work and the video's coming.. thanks..

  • I like the idea of having Video Logs, and you got some great things for Christmas man. Excellent Video man!!

  • Eric, you got some beautiful things for Christmas. Those hopper cars triggered a lot of memories for me because I unloaded real ones before I retired. As I love postwar Lionel, Santa came to my house with two sets of double A 2343's and a beautiful 736 from Th Bay. I love your layout and watch all of your videos.

  • @jenesaisquoi54 Thanks

  • ive railfanned that trestle it gets a heck of alot of action

  • Eric, love the Norfolk Southern tanker. Beautiful!!!!! I live in NC and the old Southern Railroad ran in my area. If you are doing any road trips down south, go by Spencer, NC and see more of the Southern Green and White. Great stuff!

  • If you do the narrow guage line on your layout will you use atlas track or narrow guage track?

  • @modelrailroader247 I am planning on doing a narrow gauge line and I be using narrow gauge track for that. Not sure which brand of track yet.

  • Sweat! Looks Like You Had A Great Christmas! What About Your Son Josiah? Anything New For His Layout?

  • I got nothing train related for Christmas :-( Oh well...come Saturday I will head to my lhs and pick up some of my pre-orders. :-) In addition to about 8 Premier/Lionel scale cars I was also hit with my MTH Premier Northern Pacific GP9 and Montana Rail Link SD45!!

  • What kept you from using Ross Custom track?

  • @modelrailroader247 I just like Atlas. Ross makes fine track and wonderful switches. What it all comes down to is that when I was first getting into the hobby the local hobby shop here in Atlanta turned me on to Atlas track and I've used it ever since. If I had it to do over again, I'd still use Atlas track. I just like the look and feel of it. But everyone has their own preferences, so there' s no wrong choice.

  • love the second hopper

  • You have a great set-up and video blog. I enjoy watching them. I love O-Scale, but being a high school student has made my decide to go into N-Scale, because it is cheaper and I can do a lot in a decent amount of space. Perhaps I'll use your videos as an inspiration to video blog about my N-Scale layout in the works.

  • Fantastic video! How's the other bridge coming?

  • hey eric nice video the hoppers are really nice. I have 1 qustion how much did that bridge cost. anyway the layout is looking really nice and i wish you the best of luck.

  • wow the layout is doing good whens ur next layout up i can tell u did ALOT

  • Nice video Eric! I like the idea of having Video Logs. They are nice. Anyways, nice cars they look really sharp. The trestle is also really really cool. I googled the name you provided and it is absolutely huge in real life. You shouldn't paint that bridge it would look better if it was just weathered like Broncort1 said. The weld marks add some realism to it also. Thanks for sharing!

  • @Bassfanatic94 Maybe "paint" was the wrong word. I'm going to be doing salt weathering on it...which means painting it with rustoleum rusty metal primer, salting it, spraying a rustoleum silver/grey metallic finish over it and then scraping off the salt to reveal the rust.

  • i like the cylindrical hoppers and the bridge is awesome

  • The hoppers are neat! That trestle looks awesome! can't wait for some trains running across it!

  • Eric, Those christmas presents are so nice and that trestle is sick!!

  • Eric: That trestle is COOL! I live about 25 miles from the prototype. I've grown up looking up at that trestle for years. The correct pronunciation is al-HAM-bra, the town it crosses is Martinez, CA.

  • That bridge is simply amazing!!! Congrats on its arrival. I'll be curious on how you'll deal with painting and weathering the stainless steel. Perhaps it may be prudent to just weather it as is without paint??

I can imagine your wife rolling her eyes when she realized what was up with the Southern Hopper and its matching engine...LOL. I'm not a big follower of tinplate but the Atlas Hopper is definitely a keeper. Thanks for the video...1000+ for the next one!!

  • good job Eric, another great video

  • lovin that hopper eric its quite detailed for a 1998 hopper and the trestle is amazing

  • Nice, I can't wait to see a tour of the layout after the trestle is all finished.

  • That trestle is AMAZING Eric!! Your whole layout is just mind blowing!!!

  • Eric,

I really enjoy the joy which you take in your trains and passion with which you pursue your modeling. I'm sure there are others out here who merely have their childhood train running around the Christmas Tree, just wishing they could have a layout like yours.

Best wishes for the new year and much success in your modeling efforts.
